Step back in time at the historic Stenhuset, or “the Stone House,” a one-of-a-kind home built in 1877 by Swedish stonemasons and proudly listed on Atlas Obscura. This home masterfully blends 19th-century charm with modern luxury, all within its original 24-inch-thick stone walls.
Inside, the great room welcomes you with exposed stone, beamed ceilings, and hand-hewn wood floors. The eclectic, colorful kitchen is fully equipped for the modern traveler, featuring: A 4-burner cooktop A convection oven/microwave A coffee maker and grinder A refrigerator and dishwasher cleverly concealed behind repurposed cabinetry
Relax in the living area at a cozy table for two, or stream your favorite shows on the pop-up Smart TV with our complimentary Gigabit-speed WiFi and ad-free Hulu+Live TV. For extra sleeping space, a chest of drawers cleverly conceals a Murphy bed. A full bath with a unique step-in shower and a stacked washer/dryer are also conveniently located on the main level.
Stenhuset features two private bedroom suites, each with a king-size Casper mattress, a Smart TV, and an ensuite bathroom: Lower-Level Suite: Descend the stairs past an original stenciled plaster wall to discover a spacious suite. It includes a private seating area and an ensuite bath with an upcycled vanity and an oval walk-in shower. Upstairs Loft Suite: Nestled in the loft, this second suite offers a spacious seating area with a sofa and chair that overlooks the great room below.
Enjoy your morning coffee or an evening meal outdoors at the teak dining table for six, set perfectly under a hand-hewn pergola.

Amazing stay as always. We love staying here and look forward to it each year for the St Lucia festival. Cozy and quaint place, you feel like you stepped back in time staying there. We will see you next year!
AMAZING. What an incredible place to stay. This house is so charming and comfortable. Fully stocked with whatever you would need. Also is two blocks from Main Street. Property manager was helpful with anything that was needed. Highly recommend if you are visiting Lindsborg - book this house.
We had a wonderful Easter weekend getaway here. Even our teens were very impressed by this lovely historic house! We will definitely stay again when in the area!
Beautiful house.. pictures do not do it justice.. cozy and roomy.. beds were very comfortable.. so close to all the shops and restaurants.. would love to stay here again.
Stayed at this unique, historic, 147yr old cottage over the weekend of my son’s wedding. It was immaculate and much more spacious than it appears from outside. Has all the amenities you need for a comfortable stay in a quaint little town. We enjoyed being there and would definitely stay again.
We were astounded by the attention to detail in this lovingly restored 1877 home. Each room is filled with period furniture and decor, and at the same time all modern amenities are provided. We look forward to returning to Stenhuset.
We had a fabulous time in Lindsborg and this property was the icing on the cake. Roomy, unique, and with so many nice touches. Absolutely loved it. Highly recommend!
Me and my husband visited this property last year for our honeymoon, and again this year for our first anniversary. Both visits were amazing. Lindsborg is a an amazing and hospitable town. We enjoyed the many art exhibits and were surprised that each one was better than the last. Stenhouset has everything we needed and is set up beautifully within walking distance of most of the town.
The house was just amazing ! It was immaculate and every detail was thought of.The host response was so awesome whenever we had a question. Highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Lindsborg. We will definitely return.
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely property. Plenty of bathrooms and beds for 4 adults. The beds were so comfortable, my daughter is looking into buying the same kind of mattress. Our stay was short, but if we ever return to Lindsborg, we hope to stay in this historic house. I think I enjoyed reading how they restored the home more than anything! Fascinating. It is such a fun place to stay!
We live on both ends of the country so after Christmas we met in the middle to connect and enjoy time together. A perfect home in a beautiful Scandinavian village. We have many memories of visiting with family but this VRBO home was by far the finest we have ever enjoyed... ANYWHERE. We will be back!
Great little house that was beautifully updated. Fabulous location. Only complaint is the lack of comfortable seating in the living area. They had a neat pop-up tv but only old fashioned chairs to sit on. And being in a town where most stuff shuts down at seven, you’re likely to spend your evening here. Not having somewhere comfortable to sit was annoying. We ended up watching tv separately in our rooms.

Thanks for letting us know about the chairs. We have altered the seating in this area so that our guests should be more comfortable.
My cousin and I have been going on yearly getaways to celebrate our birthdays.
When we walked into the
Stenhuest we loved it!! The stairs were a bit challenging, as were the lights and light switches.
Before we settled in for a cozy night of sharing old and new stories, we wanted a glass of wine. No wine glasses!! There were juice glasses and very heavy beer steins. We made do but it would be nice to have wine glasses for future guests. We also, could not find any throws, which would've been a comfy touch to take the chill off.
The beds were very comfortable but we couldn't find any extra blankets.
Overall, we had an enjoyable getaway. Lindsborg is lovely town.
Thanks
We had 3 relaxing and restful nights in this beautiful historic home. We enjoyed the modern amenities mixed with all the historical details throughout the home. The beds are so comfortable and clean with the right amount of pillows and blankets. The bathrooms were clean and well stocked with the essentials like tissues and towels. The kitchen had a great coffee maker and all the tools we needed to make our stay special. The rooms are so well decorated and lit for safety and for maximum comfort. If you have small children this might not be the best place for them because of all the stairs and historical touches like the lamps and chairs. Adults only or adults with a teenage child would be very comfortable. This is a romantic experience close to the heart of the town. We were able to walk to all the shops and restaurants in the downtown area. I enjoyed the personal touch of speaking with our host prior to our stay for the details about the house and our arrival and check in. We were impressed and want to come back and visit again. Of this property is not available we would consider one of the other properties they manage. We stay in a lot of Vrbos and this property ranks high for us.
Fantastic, unique historic home we spent close to 3 weeks at in September.
PROS: Fabulous beds and bedding. A historic experience in an 1877 home a short walk to downtown Lindsborg with a fairly recent renovation that carefully blends and preserves the original historic stone aspect with a modern comfortable log addition. The thoughts behind the renovation and the unique application of such is top shelf. (Lighting, decor, quality finishes, unique features. ) There are 2 full size comfortable bedrooms en-suite. Kitchen is small but very adequate, with modern appliances and lovely dishes and cookware. Home has 3 Large screen TV’s with streaming capability. Outdoor space is small but very tasteful. The Property manager was very responsive and helpful.
CONS: I will only mention this for those who may struggle with stairs. It was not an issue for us, however, stairs are required to get to all levels. Stairs to bedroom on top floor, stairs to bedroom in basement level, stairs from rear & front entry to reach main living area.
While this next comment was not a huge issue for us, we found the seating in the main kitchen/liv rm/dining area to be uncomfortable for any lengthy television watching. This likely would not be an issue for a shorter stay, but we worked around it by choosing to watch our favorite shows in the bedroom. Would stay again.
Hello, my name is Jim. As you may have guessed, I am a big fan of Lindsborg, KS for its friendly townsfolk and business owners. Perhaps also because, according to DNA test results, I’m 80% Swedish! I was the first vacation rental owner in the area and my properties began as a kind of experiment to see if they would catch on. Fortunately, they did and my properties are now warmly embraced by the local community. While I don’t live in Lindsborg, I have been welcomed into the community as a “local” who just happens to live elsewhere. When I’m not tending to my vacation rentals, you will find me working in my commercial real estate business, where I own and rent commercial spaces for small businesses and apartments for local residents. In my leisure time, I particularly enjoy genealogy (not a big surprise there!), traveling, and hiking. I look forward to welcoming you to my properties in Little Sweden USA!
Why they chose this property
I had an opportunity to purchase and renovate the oldest house in Lindsborg. The results speak for themselves!
