Luxury House with wrap around deck on Mt. Dewey

Welcome to the Lodge of Chrome Chasers, a luxurious home overlooking the town of Wrangell.

Our lodge was built on the top of the hill, next to Mount Dewey trial and offers breathtaking views out every window. Gaze up the Stikine River from any of the 5 bedrooms on the Northeast side of the house. Views of Wrangell town and the bay below can be enjoyed from the kitchen, dining room and formal living room.  The deck wraps around the entire house with 5 different access points including off the kitchen, formal dining room and 2 bedrooms.

Mt. Dewey trail borders the property and guests have a personal access point to the boardwalk hike just past the wood shed. Enjoy 360 degree views off the deck that wraps around the entire house. 

This home boasts an amazing chef's kitchen with views and plenty of room for several cooks. A propane Thermador cooking range and Sub refrigerator are the workhorses. The kitchen sink looks out over the town and has 3 sink tubs. There is also a small hand-washing sink on the island.  Some kitchen appliances offered include a dishwasher, microwave, a Kitchenaid Stand Mixer, 4 toast toaster, drip coffee maker, coffee grinder, large flat griddle, Nutri Ninja Kitchen System blender and mixer set,  a sous vide, instant pot and rice maker. The drawers are well stocked with all necessary kitchen utensils, crab crackers and scissors,  Plenty of glasses, wine glasses rock's glasses and mugs can accommodate a large number of guests in the bar.

The formal dining room seats 8 comfortably. There are two living rooms. One offers a quiet place for guests to converse and enjoy the view of the town. The central living room is furnished with power reclining furniture as well as a Smart TV and a large DVD library. 

The views from the master bedroom are amazing from all windows. The king bed is warm and inviting. The master bathroom offers a walk in shower with 2 shower heads as well as a large soaker tub with a large picturesque window of views up the Stikine River. 

There are 4 additional guest bedrooms. In addition to the master bathroom, there are 2 full bathrooms and a half bathroom off the dining room. 

The lodge of Chrome Chasers is within walking distance of downtown, less than a half mile from City Market. The house is set on the side of the hill and offers more privacy than any other residence within town.  It is at the end of the road and at the top of the hill, there is no street noise of vehicles.

Amazing home!

Just completed a 4 day stay at this gorgeous property! The views out every window of the ocean and mountains are magical! The house is five star level accommodations- extremely clean, comfortable beds, kitchen fully equipped, and definitely the best views of any other home in Wrangell! The sweet homeowner, Dori, was always available by text or email from when I first booked to the entire stay. My family of 4, grandparents and great Aunt all felt spoiled to be able to stay in this lovely home and cute town! Looking forward to returning in the future!

Amazing hideaway

This house has a beautiful yard with a great view if the harbor. The house is immaculate with a nicely stocked kitchen including everything you need for cooking. The fridge has most of the basics and there is coffee for brewing. The house is surrounded with a wrap around patio with amazing views from all angles. The property owner is a delight to work with. I would definitely come back.

Wonderful stay in Wrangell, Alaska

Three generations of our family stayed together here for six days in July of 2024. We could not have been more pleased. The house was spacious, and with two living areas our group enjoyed both togetherness and quiet relaxation. The beds were comfortable, and the view out every window was beautiful. The house was immaculately clean, and the kitchen was equipped with everything needed for preparing meals for our group. We never imagined a kitchen so well supplied with condiments and staples, even chocolate chips for my daughter’s favorite cookie recipe. The owner responded promptly to every inquiry and was helpful in making recommendations to help us plan our trip. Lots of good memories for everyone in our family.

Chrome Chasers runs for 5 weeks during the months of April and May for steelhead fly fishing in the local streams on islands around Wrangell Island. Chrome Chasers Steelhead fishing trips take 4 clients total per week long trip. Anglers fish everyday and pull crab and shrimp pots daily for seafood dinners.

Chrome Chasers offers a fishing and foraging trip during 6 weeks in August and September. These trips are a week long and accommodate 4 to 6 guests per week. They are excellent couples trips. Anglers fish the streams on local islands for 4 species of salmon, sea run cutthroat trout and dolly varden. They can use the fly rods or conventional tackle provided. Guests also have the option to forage for mushrooms such as king boletes, chicken of the woods, golden chanterelles, yellow foot chanterelles, black trumpets and a variety of wild berries . Crab and shrimp pots are pulled daily for seafood dinners. There is also ocean fishing while trolling for king and silver salmon and bottom fishing for halibut and other bottom fish, regulations permitting.

Why they chose this property

This is the most unique property on all of Wrangell Island and possibly in all of Southeast Alaska. This house is truly a special place, and The Matney's are so blessed to have it for operating the Chrome Chasers business and fishing lodge. The house is a peaceful place and an amazing getaway for guests. There was an immense amount of thought and skill put into the architecture. The house was built on solid rock and is built around the rock it sits on. The woodwork was commissioned to be completed by a yacht builder in the early 90's and the predominant wood is Brazilian Tigerwood. Hardwood floors throughout much of the house are beautiful and the light carpet is plush and clean. The home boasts 2 fireplaces and a large wood burning stove in the kitchen. The soaring ceilings allow for light from the windows around the house to brighten every room throughout the house during the day. The central living room is the darkest room, perfect for relaxing and watching movies.
