About this property

The Stone House .

"The Stone House" is the only portion of our log home that wasn't made from local hemlocks. Besides the thick arched door I made from the ash tree that lightening had struck and the entertainment center repurposed from salvaged oak, most of what makes this place special are the stones: The support columns outside lining the porch are made from field-stone harvested at the farm; The beautiful brick arch-way inside was made with kiln-fired brick crafted over 100 years ago by the coal companies, and stones from our property were beautifully placed in its construction as well. There's a story behind every stone!

This space is just right for reading, reflecting, retreating, or just resting. Come enjoy our working mini-farm, which comes replete with a gurgling creek at the end of the pasture and a stunning mountain view.

The Stone House does not have a full kitchen, but we have the essentials of a mini-fridge, microwave, electric tea pot, coffee maker, and some starter "goodies" you can enjoy along with all the kitchen paper products you'd need. Think of it like a stay in a hotel suite. Go out to eat some, get some pizza, plan simple meals requiring only microwave or adding hot water, and sandwiches of course. Keep it simple. Focus on rest!

The house is partly underground, but has large windows across the front and side for loads of good sunlight. Doesn't feel like a basement at all.

The door out opens to the blueberry patch on one side and a beautiful grassy lawn straight ahead. Sit on the covered patio and take in your own private view of the pasture and mountains directly ahead and a stones throw away. (Pun intended).

Eight stone steps, made from rock, found literally only a few feet from where they are now, and a short walk of 30 feet are all that separate you from your car and the private entrance to The Stone House.

We're making The Stone House available for those looking for some privacy, some reflection, or just some rest. Refresh deeply watching the sun set on our biggest rock - Pine Mountain. Read a book, prop up your feet, put on some coffee, explore--relax.

Guest access
The pond, the walk to the creek—in other words the grounds, is the only shared space.

Other things to note
Our dogs are friendly and love people. If you’re not a dog lover, just say, “Go” and they will leave. They might come back if they aren’t sure you meant it. 😊 Just remind them of your preference by repeating the command. If you love animals, you will have some immediate friends.

Beautiful and peaceful
Thanks so much! Was so relaxing and exactly what I needed for some time alone in nature. Books left out were exactly what I needed too!

We are an older couple. Five grown children. Eight grandchildren. Not quite retired but getting close after 30 years of local and international missions. We built our log home, along with our children, actually hammering the nails and sawing the logs ourselves! With our nest now empty, we are excited to share our mountain farm retreat with guests looking for a comfortable, peaceful, and beautiful stay.

Why they chose this property

We can honestly say that we didn't know what we were doing when we built our house! The footers looked so small. But it became very big!! We lived in the basement while we finished working on the main floor and upstairs. My mother lived in the small guest cottage attached to the main house, which you see in front of you when you drive down the drive to park. The basement is special to us because we have four years of special memories made there while it was "home", until we moved into the main house. We've hosted many a guest and many a family member in that space since then!! Recently we decided to update and make it available to the public for your enjoyment as well and for you to make some memories of your own! We decided to name it the Stone House because so many of its special features are the stones and bricks incorporated in its construction. Enjoy! And get some rest!!

What makes this property unique

Unique benefits? It's the quiet. It's the beauty. It's the peace. These will bless you and refresh you. Savor the retreat from your regular routines.

Alternatively, if you are on a business trip, at least enjoy your morning coffee in a pleasant place. We are 15 minutes from the interstate (I-75) so not too far off the beaten path.
