LAKE FRONT LOG CABIN ON DOUGLAS LAKE IN THE GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS

*****A LAKE AND MOUNTAIN VACATION!*****

The Pioneer Trading Post is located on beautiful Douglas Lake with 600 miles of shoreline, marinas, restaurants, bars, music and mountain vistas.

You have found a Historic Property with character and authenticity that is truly hard to come by. This is not a generic, cooky cutter cabin. Sections of the cabin were built by the Scot- Irish settlers who were early pioneers to the Great Smoky Mountains at the turn of the century and their craftsmanship and building skills have stood the test of time. We have 5 beautifully appointed bedrooms, which sleep 10 comfortably.

THE PIONEER TRADING POST IS A MUSEUM TO OUR APPALACHIAN AND CHEROKEE BLENDED CULTURE
YET WITH ALL THE CONVENIENCES OF MODERN LIVING:
You will find early American chestnut walls and ceilings, a totem pole made by Chief Blue Cloud, vintage oak and heart pine floors, spinning wheels, quilts, church pews on the porch, butter churns, pie safes, cedar chests and claw foot tubs. We also have showers and a jacuzzi.

LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION
Located just 15 minutes from Hwy 66, which is the Gateway to Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountains. Popular area attractions are a short drive away. Skip the traffic and take the back road to Dollywood or shop until you drop.

THE LAKE!! MARINA RESTAURANTS, BARS, and MUSIC:
During the summer months you can rent a pontoon boat, jet skis, paddle boards and kayaks at one of several local marinas and enjoying the beauty of Douglas Lake and its 600 miles of shoreline.
You can also visit Otter Cove Marina and Cowboys Restuarant and Marina, both have food, cocktail bars, live music and Karaoke.

FISHING:
Douglas Lake's 2025 fishing tournament lineup is full of fun, competition, and incredible prizes. So grab your gear, pack your tackle box.
Or just relax on the dock and enjoy a beer and catch some fish. (Permits at the gas station).

5 BEAUTIFULLY DECORATED BEDROOMS:
Each room has its own special charm and appeal. You will find crispy linens, comfy pillows, country quilts, and rustic, vintage touches for the feel you only get at Granny’s house.

BEDS:
4 Queen beds
1 Full Bed
2 Small twins in the Loft
1 large day bed that sleeps a cozy couple on sleeping porch
1 day bed in the living room (You must request linens for this bed).

4 BATHROOMS:

2 claw footed tubs with showers
2 outdoor showers

YOU'LL HAVE A 5-ACRE PRIVATE PENINSULA TO YOURSELF!

Full range of cookware

Covered Outdoor dining table seats 10 in an open air environment. You're gonna love it!

OUR TREASURED TOTEM POLE:
Pull up a seat next to the fireplace and study the vintage hand-carved totem pole made for our grandparents by Chief Blue Cloud of the Cherokee Nation.

LAKE LEVELS: Douglas Lake is a seasonal dam controlled lake. Lake levels vary. TVA (TN Valley Authority) starts releasing water from the dam in the Fall in order to make room for winter storms and snow run-off. TVA starts to lower the water level in the cove after Labor Day. The lake is at it's fullest from early May and late August. The home owners do not control the lake levels or rain accumulation. However, the cabin and its location are beautiful year round. Please check TVA website for more accurate lake Level information. https://www.tva.com/environment/lake-levels

FIRE PIT: We have a lovely fire pit for very small fires. If it is dry due to a lack of rain we must observe fire bans and owners description..

Family vacay

We stayed 5 nights at the cabin, but wish we could’ve stayed longer! I’m pretty sure we still didn’t manage to see everything in the place! It was definitely the most unique vacation home we’ve ever rented. Our group of adults and teens came to enjoy the lake and spend time on our boat, and this proved to be a great place to do all of that. The quiet cove and our own dock was perfect for all of us to relax, swim, paddleboard, etc in the calm water. We enjoyed a family day in Pigeon Forge and spent the rest of the time enjoying the lake from our boat, eating at the local marinas while listening to live music, and just relaxing on the porch or strolling through the property!
Sunrise from the porch
Calm waters at the dock
Back porch where we ate most meals

Great Stay, Highly Recommend!!!!

Our stay at the Trading Post was magnificent! Morning walks breathing in fresh, mountain air. Coffee and breakfast on the deck overlooking the lake. We sat comfortably on the dock while the kids kayaked, swam, and fished. The water was warm, yet refreshing. Around in landscaping are cozy coves and hideaway nooks to sit and enjoy the sounds of the forest. This is a true log cabin, and a piece of history. I was incredibly impressed at the cleanliness of the home. There was neither dust, nor pest. It was very cozy and welcoming. Also, I don't know how we will survive not having a sleeping porch at home. What a gem!!I also loved the little owl "love notes" posted in important places. It was a cute way to help guests remember how to take care of the home.Tara was a pleasure to work with. The home is part of her family, and her love for it shows. We were happy to love it too for the time we were there. She gave us some great recommendations for things to do and see. Check-in and check-out were seamless. Wifi access was great. The kitchen was amazing. I had forgot coffee, and I was pleasantly surprised to find a small station with all I needed to get my morning fix!The location was perfect for us. We had our lakeside getaway, and we were close enough to Pigeon Forge, Gaitlinburg, and The Smokies to enjoy things in those places as well.Perfect vacation, we can't wait to come back!

Here is your review, gently refined for clarity, rhythm, and emotional resonance, while preserving your deeply personal voice:⸻My sister made it a point to gather my brother and me for some quality time. Now in our 40s and 50s, this was something we had never done. She wanted us to come together—to heal, and to build a new relationship as adults, after growing apart since our teenage years. My brother suggested Tennessee, and I agreed, with the understanding that I would choose the environment. A sense of home, of history and heritage, was important to me.Tara’s family home was a dream. A magical place filled with objects that held a wealth of memories. We spent a long weekend there, one that began our journey together again. I’m entirely grateful for this space, which now holds a piece of my own history. Memories were made there—memories I will never be able to replicate.Very sadly, my sister passed unexpectedly just last week.I’m left with enormous thanks and deep gratitude to Tara for welcoming us into her home. That visit was nearly a year ago, and just today, I received a kind review from Tara—after she and her home had been so intensely on my mind. It came as no surprise that this intuitive angel would reach out at just the right moment. In our VRBO communication, before and after the visit, we shared intimate stories of our parallel yet unconnected histories—Tara, having once lived in New York City, where I now live. Her kindness was and remains appreciated,

Wonderful Lake Cabin with Plenty of Charm

We had a wonderful time at this property, it is a very unique property with a lot of history and charm that we really enjoyed. There was plenty of privacy with many wonderful areas to explore. The lake access is easy with a nice dock which easily accommodated our jet skis. Tara was very responsive to my questions, and I would definitely recommend this property for anyone looking to have a great time at Douglas Lake.

Peaceful, Wonderful

If you want to step back in time and enjoy a peaceful setting while getting away from it all, this place is for you. Tara has done an awesome job decorating the place - it's like a Cracker Barrel morphed into a log cabin, but done with great tact. All the modern amenities and the furniture /beds are comfortable. Enjoyed the fishing dock, hot tub, and the visits from Dixie the dog and her friends, that was fun. Tara very easy to work with. Highly recommend this place and would come back again no doubt.

Gorgeous, roomy, relaxing stay on the lake

This place has a special place in our hearts; it was our 3rd stay here. We've made so many family memories in the cabin: watching movies, playing games, eating together; and outside: on the deck, in the hot tub, on the lake, in the gorgeous yard. There are many wonderful cabins in the Smokies but none as homey and unique as this one made from log cabins. We will be back, Lord willing!

“Lake front Cabin without a Lake”?? Disappointed!!!

Read carefully because this is a seasonal lake. We were looking for a property by the water and that was the main reason to rent this property for out annual fall family-friend’s retreat, finding out 2 weeks before that the lake was dry and neither we could make a fire pit. Because the complaints, permission to make the fire pit was granted but nothing to do about the lake.

Family Vacation

We had a wonderful stay. Everything was very relaxing and loved by all. Appreciate that it was stocked with everything we needed! We all felt right at home and enjoyed the love that was definately shown in preparing this vacation rental. If anyone needed a quiet spot you could find several private cozy places. My only comment would be that the houskkeeping completely clean and remove items out of the refrigerator! I was not happy when we opened the door to put our food in it. Otherwise, we will definitely come back. Thank you for caring about your renters opinions.

Amazing unique cabin

We had 3 generations on this trip ages 19 to mid 80s. Everyone had a fantastic time. Rented a boat and was able to pull it right up to the dock. Cook of the family loved the stove! My 6 foot son even slept in the loft. The in laws took lots of wonderful walks around the property. Front yard was perfect for a family corn hole competition. Personally i loved the porch bed! Several nights of playing games as a family and incredible laughs. This cabin took you back in time yes was extremely comfortable and had enough modern touches to make all ages comfortable. The only thing i would recommend is updating the listing here.

Much needed Family getaway!

Our stay was absolutely perfect and we loved the cabin so much!! It is truly beautiful and the history of it was so interesting to hear . Tara, our host was there to greet us when we arrived and gave us a tour of the property . She was so kind and made us feel very welcome and at home . We enjoyed the lake , went fishing, kayaking, looked for arrowheads and enjoyed the hot tub and the gorgeous scenery. Loved the outdoor kitchen and grill area . Covered porch was great when it rained, so we could stay outside. Beds were super comfortable and the cabin has a layout that worked extremely well for our party of 9. Everyone had plenty of room and privacy. We had a small mishap with running out of propane and Tara went above and beyond to make it right for us!! Definitely will be back to visit again!

Summer Magic

We were thrilled to stay on a lake for 3 weeks this summer due to the horrible heat throughout the United States. Douglas Lake is clean and quiet and the dock right at the bottom of the 5 acre property is large enough to sit and enjoy the afternoon and swim. The house is wonderful - so many memories have been saved and displayed throughout the house - quirky and fun throughout with a wonderful front porch, back porch, covered porch, outdoor shower, and hot tub. Super quiet as it is about 15 minutes from the main drag in Sevierville. Tons to do with kids in the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area (it was our first time). Tara (owner) was super helpful before and during the visit. Highly recommend!

Family Vacation

Beautiful, secluded location, yet not far from the grocery stores, restaurants and marina. The house was perfect for our family of seven adults. Those who wanted to be tourists were only 20 minutes from Dollywood. Those who wanted to hang out had plenty of options around the property...from seating areas, several porch swings, the back patio and the dock. Tara was helpful in addressing my questions before we arrived. (She somehow even arranged perfect weather for us!!) Didn't need anything once we were there. The kitchen was well stocked and plenty of towels. Water in the cove deep enough for swimming, even though TWA had lowered the levels. Water was 80 degrees. Not so much luck with fishing!! Had a visit every evening from Dixie, who liked to bring us rocks but did not want to fetch a stick!!! Saw a coyote one morning on our way out for an early hike. When the motion sensors went off at night, I was hoping to see a bear, but no luck :)

Are you sure this is the place...

Mom's first words as we walked up, no joke. First, the positives: Clean floors/sinks/tubs, great view, interesting history of where the property came from, back patio is lovely to hang out on and great access to the lake. Oh- and the beds were comfortable, just don't unzip the pillow covers (four thick) when you strip the linens... it was disgusting. Downside: after a long day of traveling, basic necessities were not provided. Example: no coffee or shampoo. Each shower had one tiny Motel-8-style soap round and nothing else. The house, while expected to be rustic and cabin-like, has vastly more items and nicknacks packed into every open spot. The photos show antique decor but not to the level that it currently is at, including the old preserved ham hanging in the kitchen. Beware of touching that oily ham bag! Another nice touch are the thrashed bar-b-que tools hanging as decor on the patio, dripping grease and food residue on the ground. Aprons hung as window curtains could be fun, but these were stained and dirty. Many spices are expired. In reality, we have friends who own family cabins like this. While it's a treat to be invited to stay at a friend's old family heirloom-filled cabin, it's not the same when you are paying premium pricing on a vacation. The bottom line is, this is obviously a treasured family cabin likely full of ongoing memories for the family who owns it, but it's not to the basic standard of a vacation rental. Absolutely better choices in the area.

We love the great outdoors. We enjoy good food and coming together around the large harvest table at the Pioneer. The cabin belonged to our Granny. Granny was known far and wide as Mountain Mama and she knew the mountains like the back of her hand.

Why they chose this property

When you rent this property you help keep the spirit of old Appalachia alive.
The Pioneer Trading Post was named after our family store originally located in Gatlinburg. The Hand-hewn cabins were built by early Scot Irish settlers with primitive tools.
The building techniques of the early American settlers has stood the test of time.
Each log is a work of art.
The cabin is going on 200 years old and it will stand another 200 years.
The Pioneer Trading Post is a living museum to a people, their unique way of life and their land.

What makes this property unique

Guests get to experience a glimmer of what life might have looked like during the early 1800's, but with all the comforts of modern living. Including High Speed Wifi.
Guests get the pleasure of staying in a real home that was full of love and music.
You will feel right at home as soon as you walk in the door.
Staying at The Pioneer is having the best of both worlds. You have a lake shore vacation that is within easy driving distance of the mountains and all the action of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.
You will have the entire secluded, 5 acre peninsula to yourself with unencumbered views of the lake.
