A little bit of heaven...
We stayed at the house for about a week. It’s clean and has all the comforts of home! We spent most days by starting out with an hour of kayaking, launching from the dock on the property. Then cooked breakfast in the well appointed kitchen followed by sight seeing in DC. Then we returned to the house for dinner and a bit more kayaking! The water and land around this property is full of wildlife - deer, bald eagles, otters, raccoon, wood chucks, heron, osprey, fish etc etc etc
Come stay here if you want a balanced DC trip.
If you are looking for peace surrounding yourself with water, this is it. My family could not have asked for a more enjoyable time. Fishing, swimming, kayaking, watching the boats and birds (eagles and ospreys) was so enjoyable. We will definitely visit again.
Close to DC and other attractions. Rustic as expected, but an amazing experience outdoors.
I am not an “outdoorsy” person. But, I knew I would have to get over that if I was going to fully experience this rental property. We chose this house because of previous reviews, describing the beautiful environment and ecosystem. Upon driving up to the house, we saw a red fox, groundhog, rabbit, and a few deer. Once we got out of the car and walked up to the lake, we saw a large turtle in the marsh, turkey buzzard flying off, and what my husband insists was an eagle.
I was able to get over my fear of the water to canoe and then Kayak on my own. I wish we had the chance to do more kayaking in the morning, as John said we most likely would see river otters.
We visited Mt Vernon, US Naval Academy, DC, and Calvert Cliff State Park to collect fossils and prehistoric shark teeth.
We enjoyed our stay.
Great place to vacation. When the weather was cooperating, paddling was fun. Accomodated 5 easily.
Another nice weekend getaway
2nd time renter here and would love to come back for a third. The riverside cottage certainly has its charm and interesting bit of local history. Pomonkey creek is a great paddle for nature lovers and fisherman. There is an abundance of wildlife - ospreys, bald eagles, herons and excellent angling opportunities. Thanks for a great vacation!
beautiful and relaxing spot in nature
We loved our week at this property!!!!!! Clean, neat, super well stocked. Quiet with beautiful views of river, stream, marsh, woods. Birds of all variety, deer, fish, bullfrogs, tree frogs, lightening bugs. Local history to explore. Great breakfast and lunch at the local Lunch Box Diner. Easy trip to Alexandria in 35 minutes. John was the perfect host. Can't say enough good things about this property. We will be back!!! Thank you John!!!
Sometimes we have guests who reveal another way to celebrate this unique sanctuary! There is much gratitude here for Cindy & BJ and their family!
We are located in the northern part of Charles County Maryland on the world famous bass waters of the Potomac River at Pomonkey Creek. We have a 300 degree panorama of the area. The resident bald eagles are here every day of the year. This is prime waterfront with 1000 feet on the Potomac and 1000 feet on the creek. The cottage is a separate private home in gated waterfront compound complete with pier with an electric lift, 24 foot observation tower, 600 foot elevated walkway over tidal pool and sunrise or sunset view. Internet service here is via satellite, our only option, and is not suitable for video streaming, and can be less than reliable. Please bring protable WIFI for your use in case continuous quality connection to the internet is crucial to the enjoyment of your stay.
