About this property
Waterfront Mangrove Treehouse - sloths & coral
This secluded loft-style treehouse sits on stilts above the water, 30 feet from our colorful coral reef. Transparent and airy but bug proof walls let you enjoy the fresh ocean breeze and views while keeping you safe and cozy. When a sloth comes to visit, no need to leave the house to see him! Blend in with the surroundings of mangrove, lagoon and jungle, and enjoy water and reef access from your own deck. Bright and airy, 100% eco-conscious.
About Cocovivo:
Located on the southern tip of Isla San Cristobal, a remote and tropical island, with no roads. Here you will find a healthy coral reef and 55 acres of jungle for you to explore.
The Mangrove Treehouse is a loft-style house perched above the water and tucked in amongst the mangroves. The transparent and bug-proof walls offer a stunning 360 degree view of the lagoon and the back yard jungle.
The house is a split level design, that can accommodate up to 5 people. Upstairs is a king sized bed surrounded by curtains for your privacy, there is also a hammock there for your ultimate relaxation, that can be exchanged for a single bed for the 5th guest. On the ground floor, there is a king sized convertible couch, perfect for a second couple or your kids.
The kitchen is equipped with a propane stove, a fridge and the basic kitchen necessities should you decide to cook for yourself.
If you would like to join us on the communal dock, we offer group meal services upon request, menus depend on available local ingredients and the taste of our guests.
There is a small bathroom within the house for your convenience. In order to protect the reef however, we encourage the use of the composting toilet outside- for your longer bathroom visits ;) The bamboo shower is also outside, with 180 degree view of the surrounding jungle.

Other things to note
!!! IMPORTANT: THIS IS A RUSTIC PLACE, NOT A LUXURY RESORT !!!
It's for the adventurous, who want comfort in a remote setting, and want to experience realities of rural life in the tropics. In addition to the abundant pleasures of the lush forests and reefs, you should expect to…..
WEAR BUG PROTECTION when being outdoors during dusk and dawn: We are bug conscious in the design of our accommodations. You will see dozens of geckos feeding on the insects on the outside of the screens that keep you bug free in the house.
THERE ARE NO RESTAURANTS nearby CocoVivo, so many guests choose to participate in our mealplan. Our rotating teams of private chefs offer delicious communal meals for an additional fixed fee. When you message us, please tell us what your plan for food is, or ask us to provide more information about the mealplan.
TO GET TO COCOVIVO, please ask us about our rideshare service. We offer daily trips to Bocas Town. If you’d like to participate, please mention it in your booking message, and we will try our best to coordinate your pickup and dropoff with the needs of other guests, and ask for your flexibility.
FEEL, SEE, HEAR, AND SMELL NATURE: Maybe the howler monkeys will wake you up. Maybe you will see spiders of unreasonable size. Maybe there will be a tropical storm, blowing warm lush rain in all directions. Our cabins are designed for maximum nature experience, and to bring in the breeze - and sometime with it some moisture. Maybe it’s a perfect, calm night, and while you are looking at a perfect reflection of the milky way in the water, you notice the natural smell of a healthy mangrove forest. All these things can be part of the experience.

About the host
Hosted by Ulrich & Elisabeth Gall
We've lived in Bocas del Toro since 2002. A decade ago, we turned our private paradise and reforestration project into a small off-grid eco-retreat with four architectural cabins that hover on stilts above a bioluminescent lagoon. Sharing the magic of Cocovivo with guests from around the world is what brings us joy in life. Although new to VRBO, we have 4.9 stars TripAdvisor and have been Airbnb Superhosts for many years with over 1,000 reviews. We've also been featured in dozens of magazines and blogs about travel and remote work, including the Financial Times. We can't wait to meet you and introduce you to the rest of the Cocovivo family - humans and sloths alike!
Why they chose this property
Bioluminescent waters, a thriving coral reef just feet from the shoreline, sloths and howler monkeys within arms length, and local adventures galore.
What makes this property unique
We designed Cocovivo for an immersive and authentic eco-experience unlike any other. Our innovative cabins are built with transparent screens in lieu of walls to break down the barrier between domestic and natural spaces. Nestled betwen the reef and the jungle, you'll experience nature from all sides. Sloths and howler monkeys will be your neighbors morning and night.
