Quaint Getaway

The quaint getaway was a nice place to visit. I loved the clean little cabin that had just what you needed. The trails on the property are nice. I wish the cabin was a little further away from the state road, although there is plenty of privacy.

Nice and cozy!

This property was perfect for just chilling out and getting away from the daily grind! We really enjoyed the quiet and peacefulness of this place. It was close enough to use as a home base for many activities in the area. There were good restaurants not far away too! Would definitely rent this one again! Thanks, Julie!

A private rustic experience near city attractions

My wife and I (and our dog) stayed here coming from Chicago. Easy trip but would recommend arriving before it gets dark because it is definitely passing through a rural (Read: county roads with no street lights) part of Indiana. Julie was always quick to respond on VRBO and left the place well stocked for us. The cabin was clean and had everything needed for cooking and eating without having to go out and get little things. Soft queen size bed and two single beds up in the loft area. There is wifi that you can use to stream video/access web depending on where you place the jetpack. I could not get a signal on my phone until we got a little closer into town, so best to use whatsapp or other apps to text and call friends. The location a 5 minute drive from the main attractions of French Lick, including bars, restaurants and the casino. If you are looking to stay inside (given the pandemic), there is a two burner electric stove, full fridge, plenty of board games, firepit and small pond. There are also two short private nature trails that were beautiful and we had fun walking them with our dog. This is definitely a place to have a quiet weekend and get the isolated cabin feeling without actually being too far away from city amenities. We could not have asked for a better experience and we thank Julie for truly professional hospitality.

Nice little retreat!

It’s a great little cabin in close proximity to French Lick, Patoka Lake and West Baden. Everything was great! Cabin is a bit exposed to State Road with very little Tree screening. So there is occasionally some minor road noise. Small babbling brook next to cabin helps mask. But that is nitpicking! Great stay!

Location

The cabin is more of a hunting lodge. The location is not very good. Right off the highway. The driveway is lacking gravel and is uneven. There is not a good path to walk from your vehicle to the cabin. A person could fall easily. Not worth the price.

Anniversary weekend getaway

Loved the little cabin! It was exactly what my husband and I were wanting for our anniversary weekend. The fall mountain feel but not that far of a drive. Love that it was 6 minutes from French Lick and 25 minutes to Patoka. Cabin was clean and cozy and loved the country setting! Will definitely be back 😄

Fishing getaway

We drove by the drive on the way up 56, but look for the well house columns and you’ll be able to find it. We were hoping to do some fishing and relax by a pond in nature but were saddened to find that the pond is probably 20-30yards from the road and being a state route was highly traveled. With that said we did catch 27 fish (3 small catfish, 2 8” Bass and 22 bluegills all very small. We ended up throwing all them back. We had fun but was very noisy at pond. Cabin was very clean and had an awesome countertop and coffee table. Rooms were good size but no where to put clothes, so glad we were only staying a couple nights. Fridge and kitchen were very nice. The hosts were very awesome and allowed us to metal detect on the property but we only conquered an eighth of an acre. Be prepared for rugged terrain. All in all we had a good time at cabin stay but with a few disappointments. Would stay again for sure knowing what to expect.

About the host

Host profile image
After decades of Nursing my husband and I built an Escape Room business which I now manage. We have since purchased this property with the desire to create an outdoor escape. Our first cabin was built by myself and my husband, a computer programmer enlisting assistance only to install the 3 main beams. The Countertop, shelves, coffee table were all made by us from a Cedar tree which had to be removed in order to build the fishing pond. A second cabin, fully off grid is in the process of being built far to the North of this current cabin. 1/2 mile from the nearest roadway.

Why they chose this property

This property was the original site of the town of Hillham and later was a camp ground. It’s a beautiful site with a small lake and wooded hills but also close to all of those must do’s on your list! My husband and I both grew up with a lot of space to run, hunt and explore. This property is our way of allowing couples, families, and kids to have the experience and wonder of experiencing the outdoors away from crowds of people. Sit for hours releasing milkweed seed, watching a box turtle wander through the woods, gazing at the spring running out of the cave. Just an opportunity to unwind and take a break from the day to day demands of our current society.

What makes this property unique

For those avid walkers, there are over 2 miles of rugged wooded trails on the property for you to explore. These trails are being further expanded and refined. For the animal lovers/bird watchers, there is an abundance of wild life including deer, squirrels, raccoons, and rabbits just to name a few. You might even see the elusive Bobcat! We have seen or captured images of 5 different bobcats on the property. Equine lovers, feel free to bring your horse, we have plenty of room for you to park a horse trailer. Renters are free to ride their horses on our trails. We are also establishing multiple mushroom plots and log totems. Next year we are expecting the start of a continued growth of Shitake, Oyster, and Lions Mane mushrooms. Morels are native and can be found throughout the property.
