Saint-Goustan, an invitation to stroll ..
It is better to avoid high heels to explore Saint-Goustan. To begin with, the ramps of the Loch, built on the ruins of a fortified castle, descend towards the port. From the shaded terraces of the promenade, the view plunges down to the quays. The most picturesque bank is reached by crossing the 13th century bridge with four stone arches. The Place Saint-Sauveur, with its curved cobblestones, is framed by opulent, half-timbered and corbelled houses. The steep streets, interspersed with steps, take on the district, lined with half-timbered facades. The 15th and 16th century residences have a respectable appearance, which is slummed in the evening in the rustle of the café terraces. Two cities in one City of art and history, Auray-Saint-Goustan is proud of two old districts. The upper town centred around the church of Saint-Gildas and the lower town on the banks of the Loch. The port, with its strategic position, was enriched in the Middle Ages thanks to the rights of passage collected on boats. In the 16th and 17th centuries, the traffic of wine and cereals made it the third largest port in Brittany. Memories still resonate on the granite slabs, recalling that the American Benjamin Franklin landed here in 1776 to meet Louis XVI. In the footsteps of pilgrims Nearby, the sanctuary town of Sainte-Anne d'Auray is the first Catholic pilgrimage site in Brittany. If the neo-Gothic basilica is the highlight of the visit, take a walk through the cloister, stop at the miraculous fountain, the memorial, near the monumental statue or the John Paul II space. Guided tours allow you to better discover this remarkable heritage. As a family, practice the big game "In search of the Keys of Time", the pouch of which is available at the tourist office.
