A lot to like, but but be aware of some small inconveniences
Starting with the positives: There is a lot to like with this unit. If you’re looking for a quiet location, isolated out in nature, with a rustic cabin experience, this is for you. Out back is a large jacuzzi and fire pit, with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. You’re just a short drive away from great hiking, Kernville and river, Lake Isabella, Trail of 100 Giants and the sequoias, hot springs, and more! There’s a pool table inside and a wood burning stove in the living room. For the most part, the place is homey and comfortable, and Artin, the owner, checks in frequently via the VRBO app to see how you’re doing and answer questions.
All that said, there are some small details that one should be aware of before making this choice. We suggest that the owner make this clear to potential customers ahead of time in marketing his unit. It is advertised as having TV and, while there are two, they don’t tell you that there is no cable or satellite. So you have to provide your own streaming services if you wish to watch anything, and the internet bandwidth is not great. It is advertised as having a coffee maker, but they don’t tell you that it’s a Keurig and that you must bring your own pods. The master shower has very little water pressure, so the four of us had to all use the guest shower. The hot water in the kitchen sink is fine, but the cold water in the kitchen sink has so little pressure that it’s almost unusable. For the large cleaning fee, we would have expected not to find crumbs on counter tops and not to have to scrub the dining table to eat on it. While we appreciated Artin’s responsiveness to our various questions during our stay, it’s inconvenient to have to write him about every little thing - we suggest he create a binder of information, like in a hotel, that guests can refer to when they arrive to know where everything is and how to access amenities.
Despite all this, we had a very enjoyable time and would recommend it to future visitors, with the above warnings included.
