Roff Home: Award-Winning 1868 Victorian Italianate Villa
Our historic, award-winning 1868 Victorian Italianate is perfect for rural relaxation and reconnection. When you step onto the five-acre estate, you’ll feel transported back in time. From the original color palette to period-appropriate furnishings to historic photos of past owners back to 1876, you’ll be immersed in history and all of the lives who have called the house home.
2020 Recipient: Landmarks Illinois + Driehaus Foundation Award for Architectural Preservation
In 2005, John and Valentino bought this house and spent the next 15 years bringing it back to its original character. We’ve created a peaceful, intimate escape from the city. It's so lovely here that we even got married under the old-growth oak trees.
In 2020, we won the annual Restoration Award for Architectural Preservation from Landmarks Illinois.
Now the home is open for you to enjoy.
This 1868 Victorian Italianate villa has been lovingly restored through years of effort. The charm of the time period has been preserved. Floors, doors and windows have been restored to their original detail, the home has been repainted to its original palette, and Victorian furnishings fill the rooms. The home sits on five acres of old growth oak trees and flowing pasture. Escape from the 21st century and step back in time. The house is here for you to enjoy.
GAMES! You’ll find a selection of games for you at the house: - CARD GAMES: playing cards, Uno, Phase 10 - BOARD GAMES: Monopoly, Checkers, Chess - GROUP GAMES: Twister, Connect Four - PARTY GAMES: Jenga, Exploding Kittens, Cards Against Humanity

GOURMET DINNERS (SEE PHOTOS IN PROFILE): Valentino is a chef from Italy, and he’s created several menus of 4-course Italian and Spanish meals for you to enjoy during your stay. They are a great way to celebrate anniversaries or birthdays or to just add something special to your visits.
Each dinner comes with appetizers, a first course, the second course listed above, and dessert.
Inquire for for menus and prices.
FIREPLACE: We occasionally get questions about the fireplace. There is one downstairs in the rear parlor. However, it is decorative only. The chimney is capped and it cannot be used.

It looked like an old mansion. With beautiful antique furniture inside everything was comfortable. We were pretty close to where we needed to be each day. The house was very clean and had everything we needed. The owner of the property helped us with all our needs. And always answered right away.
This place made for the absolutely perfect secluded, romantic, weekend getaway. My wife truly enjoyed the feng shui of the well- appointed, historic Italianite villa. We had a great time and we will be back!!!!

great - we had family from Texas, Missouri, llinois . some came, some stayed a day or two, some stayed the whole time. somemwere born in Watseka and knew the story, some neverheard of it . we all had a great time we couldnt have donit without the house,
Not only the nicest vacation rental in the area, but one of the best decorated, historical treasures for many miles around. Comfortable beds, multiple bathrooms and quality linens/towels make your stay easy - but the furnishings make this property a gem. If you like late 19th century architecture, be sure to check this out. If your a fan of historical antiques, this is for you - plus a large (big!) smart TV with a comfortable leather sofa that will fit a family. Responsive hosts, easy check-in, easy departure. Good value. NOT recommended if climbing stairs is an issue. All bedrooms require stairs.
Amazing!!! Omg the place is absolutely a true treasure. There is Nothing negative I could say about this place. I could live in the home. It’s so peaceful and relaxing and warm and inviting atmosphere.
John is amazing he truly is I feel like he is family!!
I’ve stayed in the home twice and planning another trip soon. I can’t get enough of the place .💕
The description of the property on your site was nothing like the actual house. All bedrooms were upstairs and the stairs were not safe and did not meet code and the rails were loose and rickety. The owner was there working at check in time and someone was asleep on the sofa. There was open cat food on the kitchen floor and laundry was being done. After carefully climbing the stairs, and coming back down, we decided not to stay at this property. We feel our money should be refunded!

We are very sorry for your experience. You arrived earlier than we had anticipated. When you did arrive, we finished loading our things, including our cat, and left the house. From our photos, the home is clearly a two-story structure and, is common with homes of this age, the bedrooms are on the second floor. Photos in our profile clearly show stairs.
We had a relaxing weekend stay! Very much enjoyed it. The house's decoration is amazing! The surrounding area is very beautiful as well. The owners were very helpful and responsive to guests. Highly recommended!
This is a charming property. The renovations are coming along nicely. We were amused at the creaks and hisses of the place, typical of historic homes, reminded me of my grandmothers years ago. We will stay again!
We stayed in this house for a weekend found refreshment and relaxation. John communicated with us each day to make sure all went well. We definitely would stay again.
