About this property
Eagle Creek Ranch in Downtown Los Alamos
Eagle Creek Ranch is my special place. I fell in love with it on my first visit and I just knew it was for me.
The property is 1/2 block from the main street in Los Alamos, CA. It's very private even though it's only right over the creek from Bell Street. The property is fenced and there is plenty of room to walk, explore, play crocket/Bocce Ball/Cornhole, relax, and enjoy a fire in the fire pit or lounge in the jacuzzi.
I decided, after spending months pouring my heart into the property, the ranch house and the Saloon, that I wanted to share it with others. It’s a work in progress but already a comfortable place to call home. The wifi is good, there is parking for many, you can invite guests for dinner under the oak grove and have a drink in the Saloon and you might even see the resident bobcat or the resident fox family wandering through the yard. You're a 10 second walk from downtown Bell Street across the bridge.
The Los Alamos area was originally a Chumash Indian Village and then became a stagecoach town in the late 1800's. It's a short drive to the rest of Santa Ynez Valley and everything it has to offer. It still boasts the last remaining railroad station that serviced the narrow gauge line during the early 1900’s (across the street from my ranch).
One of my favorite things to do is sit outside at the fire pit and stargaze. Because the property is off of Bell Street, you can usually see a starry sky in the evenings.
Whether you want to bike, hike, shop, or explore the many wine tasting and restaurant options available, you’ll always have something to do. Los Alamos, itself, is home to some of the best dining options in the entire Valley and the people are friendly and welcoming. It’s a small town (I have to get my mail at the post office every day), but not too far from Santa Barbara and Los Angeles (to the south) and San Luis Obispo and San Francisco (to the north). It is literally taking a step back in time. Note...Los Alamos is rural! As such, there are occasional (2 to 3 times / year or so) unexpected power outages. The wifi is great at my property but it has gone out 1 or 2 times over the last few years on me, so if you absolutely are relying on wi-fi and would be very disappointed if you happen to staying during one of those 1-2 times a year when it went out, you might want to reconsider staying in Los Alamos!

Had a fantastic time at Dawn's place for our wedding weekend! House is well equipped, large and private. Could have spent our whole weekend on the ranch! Communication with the host was excellent. Top to bottom exceptionally comfortable. Walkable to the fun and funky little town of Los Alamos! We'll be back!
Fantastic stay! Property and house were beautiful. We enjoyed eating outside - their outside loggia was beautiful. The house was well stocked and the kitchen was a great spot to cook. The beds were comfy and the tv room was fantastic. We probably played about 50 games of pool! TVs in almost every room. Dawn was a great host . She had a comprehensive info book about the property- which answered all our questions. We did wine tasting and three hikes within a half an hour from the house. My family loved the property.
Space, peace, amenities and a hot tub! This place has it all and we already scheduled another visit! We love the ranch for these and many other reasons. A wonderful stay all around!
Fantastic location within walking distance of everything you’d need and the Union Hotel where we were attending a wedding. The house is well-kept and fun to explore. Enjoyed the hot tub and seeing some furry friends in the AM. Cell service around Los Alamos is unreliable, as was the internet, so plan to unplug while you are here!
Our stay was everything we could have hoped for. The home is fully stocked with anything you could need and the grounds are beautiful with many gathering spots, a spa, and a very unique saloon. It is also steps away from the town with wonderful restaurants, wineries, and shops. We only wish we could have stayed longer.
We had a short stay and wished we had longer! The home was very clean and comfortable. The access to town was a short walk. The property was stunning! Will definitely stay again if so am in the area. The owner was easily reachable and very friendly with all questions.
Could not be happier with the property. The owner makes you fell important and could not be more accommodating. Great pride in every detail of our stay. Highly recommend.
The Eagle Creek Ranch has it all, including a curious fox. Great location and an easy walk to nearby Bob’s Well Bread, Pico, and Bell’s. Full of Life pizza to go paired with local wine made for a perfect stay in Los Alamos. Communication with Dawn was perfect as well. Can’t wait to stay here again!!
We had a great time at this property. The place is even better than the pictures show. Perfect for a family gathering, with everything you need. A true home , not just a rental. Hope to come back. Thanks!

Thank you, Mariela! I’m so glad you enjoyed it. It’s my happy place too.
We were at the site for just under a week, and the house and location was really perfect for us. And Dawn, the owner, was so easy to communicate with, and answered all of our questions! Can't wait to return - would do so without hesitation!
This property was great. The house looks exactly like the photos. You get the old west vibe at this place. It is very close to town, so you can easily walk. Also, it is a nice large piece of property so if you want you can just stay at the house. Also the owner is very organized. There is a book with very clear directions on everything from where to turn on the light and where to eat. I will stay here again.
What a great place! So many personal touches made this stay absolutely great. I felt like we couldn’t possibly take advantage of everything in just one day, or with only the two of us - it has so much to offer! We loved the original features combined with modern comforts. Simply magical.
This was my third stay at Eagle Creek Ranch and it won’t be my last! Dawn is amazing. The property and house are incredible. Each time I walk in the house, I have an unparalleled sense of peace and comfort. It is the perfect place to come with loved ones to relax and make memories. Thank you, Dawn!
Eagle Creek Ranch is a fantastic home to stay in while in Los Alamos. The property is perfect for getting together with friends and family. The two living areas are excellent for hanging out in front of the fireplace, watching movies or playing pool. Walking distance to all the great restaurants in town ... don't miss Full of Life Flatbread ... the best. Dawn was immediately responsive to all our requests and questions and a pleasure to communicate with. Looking forward to staying here again.
We loved Dawn's house and our stay. The location is perfect being just off the main road, so all businesses / restaurants were within walking distance. Directly across the street is the best breakfast place in town. Very spacious living spaces and well stocked kitchen for basic needs. The bathrooms had good water pressure and the beds were comfortable. We were there for a wedding, so did not get to use the hot tub, but Dawn cleans and treats it before check-in and readily responded to all questions. Would love to stay there again one day!
This was our second year renting the ranchette- such nice ambience, beautiful setting, well stocked with anything you need. Lots of clear notes and hints about how to use the house and accessories. There are so many different gathering places all around the house and yard.
Hope to return next year.

Hi! I'm Dawn. Born and raised in central California. I'm an architect and own and run an architectural firm in Santa Barbara. I live part-time at Eagle Creek Ranch and part-time on my 50' Grand Banks Motor Yacht in the Santa Barbara harbor with my yellow lab, Brigitte (Bardot). I love sailing, running, cycling, cooking, and traveling, amongst many other lesser known interests such as riding on my big lawn mover, getting dolled up for a party, waxing my car, photographing birds, thrift store shopping, Netflix binging, staring at a campfire with a glass of whiskey, being corny with my friends, and playing keyboards with my girl band. I've traveled quite a bit and lived in Florence, Italy, during school way back in 1989 where I learned to live and breathe Italian. Then I married a Frenchman...lol. Right now, it's back to English, for the most part. I was born about 15 miles north of Los Alamos and have always loved this little town. My family roots are in the country, and I never thought I'd have a chance to get back to those roots until I bought Eagle Creek Ranch. I know I can't really call this the "country", but I can pretend... and it's nice to be able to get dirt under my nails and dust in my teeth as a change from feet in the sand and ocean mist messing up my hair.
Why they chose this property
I came across this property for sale and knew I wanted it. It was love at first sight. I have a history in the hospitality business as an architect, have owned and operated a yacht charter business for 12 years and also own and operate another VRBO property in Santa Barbara. I love sharing my town with others and creating comfortable spaces. Eagle Creek Ranch is a natural muse.
What makes this property unique
The ranch is a work in progress, but already the best things about it include feeling removed from the hustle of life by just crossing the bridge, wandering around the grounds and running into Bob, the bobcat and his friend, Mr. Fox. The Saloon is a special place for me because I love playing music with my friends and inviting people to my very own place! I even like being able to see the freeway lights flickering between the trees at night because I feel removed, yet close to civilization. At night, I love the quiet Living Room with just a fire in the fireplace and a good book. It's a 180 from boat life!
