About this property
Classic Mountain Cabin - Near Lake Tahoe and Tahoe City
Our family home is a classic mountain retreat at reasonable rates. Why pay for granite counter tops, when you came for granite mountains?! We are close to Lake Tahoe, The Truckee River and Tahoe City.
Come enjoy our rustic mountain cabin in the scenic Alpine Meadows valley. Our house has wood paneling throughout, a large fieldstone and copper fireplace, big windows with gorgeous views of the mountains, two wood decks directly off the house, and a detached wooden deck with benches under trees near the house. Perfect for a family getaway or two or three families with kids, the two-story house has an expandable dinner table seating up to 12 people, an open-plan kitchen/dining area, and a spacious bunkroom sleeping 7 downstairs and - you can even bring your dog! Full supply of blankets and linens; separate laundry room with washer/dryer.
Our kid-friendly house makes a perfect base for taking advantage of the area’s many recreational opportunities in every season:
WINTER
Our house is 5 minutes from the Alpine Meadows ski and it is a 10 minute drive to Squaw Valley, which offers cross-country and downhill skiing, ice-skating, and scenic tramway rides. We have our own private sledding hill out the back door, and a mudroom and warming closet by the front door for wet skiwear and kids’ clothes. Granlibakken, a kid-oriented ski area with sledding and tubing areas, is a 20-minute drive.
FALL AND SPRING
The surrounding mountains and valleys offer spectacular foliage in the fall, and rushing streams and rivers to explore in the spring. Don’t be misled by the term “off-season”!
SUMMER
Down the hill in back of the house is a cool, clear stream, with a small swimming hole, and there are wonderful hiking and mountain biking trails minutes from the door. For a fee, renters also can access to Alpine Meadows Community Park (3 miles from the house) which has a stream-fed swimming pond with a sandy beach, picnic tables, BBQ pits, tennis courts, volleyball, and soccer field – everything you need for a lovely family day. Horseback riding is available 5 minutes from the house at Alpine Meadows Stables. We are 5 minutes from the Truckee River for fishing, swimming and rafting, 10 minutes from Squaw Valley, with more hiking, biking, hip shopping and 5-star restaurants at the Village at Squaw Valley, and 15 minutes from gorgeous Lake Tahoe with numerous swimming, boating, eating and shopping options.
