## Emplacement
San Nari is the Provençal name of Saint Nazaire, a Roman martyr from the first century AD, to whom a place of worship was dedicated in the Middle Ages on the territory of present-day Sanary. A hamlet on the Mediterranean coast, sheltered by the lordly tower built around 1300, Saint-Nazaire took off in the 16th century. The port of Sanary is recognized as one of the most typical and authentic of the French Mediterranean coast. Very old natural harbor, located in the heart of the city, it honors a hundred heritage boats, the oldest dating from 1895, including the famous "pointus" Provencal. A village turned towards the sea, Sanary was also the refuge of the greatest names in German culture: Thomas Mann, Heinrich Mann, Klaus Mann, Erika Mann, Lion Feuchtwanger, Arnold Zweig, Franz Hessel... resided in Sanary-sur-Mer between 1933 and 1942. The esplanade of the sea, the lighthouses, the piers... so many walks which offer picturesque points of view on the port and the village.
