Authentic fishing port of the Provençal coast, Sanary enjoys a privileged geographical location: 12 km from Toulon, 55 km from Marseille, 35 km from Hyères airport, 75 km from Marseille airport (Marignane), motorway exit Sanary/Bandol.
San Nari is the Provençal name of Saint Nazaire, Roman martyr of the 1st century AD, to which was dedicated in the Middle Ages a place of worship in the territory of present-day Sanary. A hamlet on the edge of the Mediterranean, sheltered by the seigneurial tower erected around 1300, Saint-Nazaire took off in the 16th century.
The port of Sanary is recognized as one of the most typical and authentic of the French Mediterranean coast. Very old natural port, located in the heart of the city, it honors a hundred heritage boats, the oldest dating from 1895, including the famous Provençal 'pointe' boats.
