Jamar’s place was well set up for a couple of families to share a place for our holiday visit - the ADU was well provided and appreciated by those, the main house was excellent for day to day and family gathering
This cute and comfortable home was just what we needed as launch pad into SF where we were attending the Chinese New Year Parade. The house was clean and well furnished and the owner was incredibly easy to communicate with!

Thank you for the review. You’re always welcomed back.
The house is extremely comfortable, well equipped, and gives you room to stretch out and have privacy when traveling with others. Owner was communicative and accommodating. Close to downtown Oakland and convenient to San Fran! Recommend.
First time in Oakland and I must say, this home exceeded all my expectations. Very cozy and spacious. The home even offered a closed in backyard area with seating and board games. I throughly enjoyed my stay. Also, don’t forget to check out the art hanging on the walls. I would definitely book this home again!
The property was great! Very comfortable beds, the master bath was better than the photos, and the backyard was great! The photos didn’t do it justice! Very comfortable stay. The neighborhood wasn’t the greatest but we never felt unsafe in the house. It was well stocked and very clean. Check in was super simple and it took only a few minutes to get my code and get inside. My favorite part was the fire table in the back!
Jamar’s property was our home away from home! This was the longest I had stayed at a property and it was perfect for my mom, mom in law, and teen son. We were mostly out and about but took a day to just enjoy the house, opening all the windows and enjoying the great weather, playing one of the many board games provided. The back patio was great for unwinding too. The shower had excellent water pressure, the AC was strong, and my Tahoe fit in the driveway. Jamar was very attentive throughout our stay, and I absolutely would return.
Perfect for big groups. The esthetics were inviting. Kudos to the decorator. Every amenity was available. For someone who loves to cook that is important. The street was quiet and the neighbor was very friendly. If you are not use to being in the hood, pls put your preconceived ideas to the side. Looks are deceiving and you really don’t want to miss this gem.
Floors needed swept and mopped. Low water pressure. House was older but nice. Beds were comfortable. Good sitting area in the back yard. Kind of shady area but had no issues. Neighbors was nice. All in all we had a nice stay. Thank you.
There were five of us total, 2 adults and 3 kids (ages 17, 12, and 6). We were looking to stay in the area for a few nights in the middle of our 3 week trip around the country. We were so thankful for this well equipped place to stay. Parking in driveway, 2 bathrooms, three bedrooms, laundry that works perfectly, kitchen with all you need to make some easy meals! We didn’t need the pack n play, but I saw it in a closet. We appreciate the opportunity to stay! Thanks so much!!
This house is perfect for a family vacation in that there are 3 bedrooms, 2bathrooms, and a sleeper sofas The kitchen is modern and well stocked and there’s a cute lil backyard with a grill. My one granddaughter really loved the games that were provided and the other loved that there was a tv in every room!
My husband was concerned with the location in that he was born and raised in Oakland and knew this as a less desirable part of town however, we felt very safe in this house and there were no issues!!
The host communicated well and often and I I’ll DEFINITELY look to book this house again in the future!!
We (Me, mom, and 2 sisters) flew to Oakland to celebrate my aunt's birthday. This rental fit our needs perfectly. 15 minutes from Oakland airport and 20 minutes to Jack London Square. The kitchen is spacious and the dining room table is big enough to seat extended family who visited us. We appreciated having outdoor entertaining space. The 2 bedroom addition is immaculate! Nice big beds and TV's in every bedroom. The water pressure was good and the AC worked perfectly. Everyone was impressed with the layout and decor. We felt very safe in the rental. It's on a city block with the convenience of a driveway. No issues with neighbors. I've already shared the listing with family who will be traveling to Oakland in the future. Highly recommend.

Not quite what we were expecting
Neighborhood was a little rough.. relatively quiet but a hop, skip, and a jump away from some suspect activities. It did not feel completely safe.
Exterior was pretty dirty and disheveled.. certainly not as inviting as the photos on the posting.
The interior was awesome. Well decorated, clean, and fun. Truly an urban renaissance.
Jamar was very interested in helping us with anything we needed.
Waiting until 2 PM on the day of arrival to get the door code means that you’re looking for a cafe or sitting in SFO searching for a door code in VRBO inbox on your iPad or laptop because VRBO phone app is all about sales and not about service. I would have liked this in my pocket before I got in the plane. House is nice but backyard is old peeling sofa cushionsand the neighborhood is C level at best.
We had a great family get together here. The home was well appointed with everything we needed for our stay. The host was quick to respond and care for our needs.
Great house and very easy, quick communication. Everything was tidy and lots of thoughtful touches. The location is just a few miles from many sites. Would definitely stay again! Thank you 😊

It was an OK stay
Pros- Central location, quiet neighborhood, cleaning supplies available, nice home decor, cosmetically updated
Cons- The home was not properly cleaned. There were used razors in the bathroom, bedsheets were dirty, mattress pad in one bedroom had stains and hair throughout the bed, kitchen scissors had BBQ sauce on them, the microwave and stove were dirty, the home had a bad smell, and there was no surface cleaning done. During these times with COVID, I take cleanliness seriously. I'm not thrilled with just home decor but more importantly the proper cleanliness of the home. When communicated to the Host he advised that he will make sure his housekeeping company is cleaning the home properly. Me and my guest went to Walmart for extra cleaning supplies and a candle and cleaned the home before unloading. That was very inconvenient.
There are no blinds in the living room so when the lights are on people on the outside can see right through the home. There are no blinds in the back with the washer and dryer area and neighbors can see right in the home. This was very uncomfortable especially with us all being women. I hope the owner updates the current blinds in the home and install blinds in the other areas.
Also, before our 11am checkout we received our final notification. It was communicated to us to load the dishwasher with any used dishes and to take the trash out to the curb before housekeeping comes at 11:15. Me and my guest felt that that was asinine. As adults, we are very good at cleaning up after ourselves. No, I cannot speak for everyone else. However, if housekeeping is coming 15 minutes after our checkout I don't feel it's right to ask your guest to pretty much clean your home before departing. If we decided to stay in a hotel room service is not going to send us a reminder to clean our room and take out the trash.
I hope this review is taken into consideration and necessary changes are made.
This home was a comfortable stay! My family and I enjoyed our stay and would definitely use this VRBO again! I especially love the artwork!! I love hip-hop and r&b and it was so cool to see the artist in this art!! The neighbor even gave us oranges from her orange tree, as she’s originally from Texas!! Thank you!!

About the host
Hosted by Jamar Mears
I am a true Oakland native, grew up in the local area and I love the diversity of the city. I love traveling, and enjoy learning about different cultures around the world. I have a passion for cooking and using techniques learned from my travels.
Also, I love having the opportunity of creating a home away from home experience for guest. Sometimes it’s frightening being a host, but to have guest enjoy my wonderful home that I have made is worth it.
Why they chose this property
I grew up in the area and use to attend the small church a block away. When I had the chance to purchase this home, I jumped at the opportunity.
What makes this property unique
The street is very cute with all the different styles of homes. The views of the mountains in the distance are gorgeous. whether you're looking at the mountains during the day or even seeing the twinkling lights of the homes in the hills are beautiful at night too.
I recently renovated the entire home in January 2021: new lights, plumbing and modernized the home by making it open concept. The backyard is private, and perfect for a family bbq.
Additionally, the stylish modern 2-bedroom casita was constructed in 2025.
