Colony One at Sea Mountain resort is one of the most serene resorts on the Big Island. Perfect for those who want to get the true Hawaiian experience. Colony One at Sea Mountain Condos are located on the South end of the Big Island only 60 minutes from Hilo and 80 minutes from Kona and 25 minutes from Volcano National Park. The two closest towns are Na’alehu (7 miles South) and Pahala (5 miles North).
Walk to the world famous Punalu’u Black Sand Beach, and swim with the green sea turtles which bask on the beach all day long. All short drives from the resort: Green Sands Beach, South Point Cliffs, Kilauea Volcano, Ka’u Coffee Mills, and so much more. Greens Sands Beach is the only natural beach in the world that encompasses beautiful green sand made out of olivine crystals. South Point cliffs are the most southern point in the United States and are world renowned for its amazing views and cliff jumping excitement. In the other direction, Kilauea constantly spews out lava in the Volcano National Park for all to see year round. The Ka’u Coffee Mill is famous world round for it’s superior unique coffee taste- see the farm itself and take a tour of the beautiful uplands of the Ka’u district. Punalu’u Bake Shop located in Na’alehu features freshly made Sweet Bread which now ships globally, and can be sampled and enjoyed in your lunch sandwich while lounging in the gorgeously maintained grounds and gardens. Ka’u has some of the most isolated and untouched landscapes in all of Hawaii. The swimming water, fresh and salt, is warm and crystal clear, perfect for rejuvenating the body and soul. The island itself is the only place in the world that contains all 7 geographic climates. Explore icy tundras in the winter, lush green rain forests, and of course the beautiful relaxing beaches throughout the district and island.
Most guests rent vehicles at either Hilo or Kailua-Kona airports. Free parking on-site. The County of Hawaii has a public bus system with schedules, routes and fares available on the County Website.
REVIEWS:
May 2021 - Kevin - "We very much enjoyed our stay at this condo. It was clean and comfortable. The location, with the view of the ocean, was perfect for rest and relaxation. We hope we can return some day."
12/26/17 “Beautiful, calm and private place with a breath takeing view over the golf-park and the everending sea! Warmly recommended! Gunn Lilly & Hans Georg”
1/22/18 - Clint. “The location was perfect. Our condo had a nice ocean view from our patio and was steps to the pool/hot tub. It was right by a black sand beach and that was awesome as well. We stayed here to be closer to Volcanoes National Park and it wasn’t to far to get there. There isn’t an A/C unit, but we slept with the windows open every night and there was a nice breeze. Overall it was a pleasant experience, and we would stay here again. ”
Elise - Feb 2018 - “Great quiet place to stay. Be sure to stock up on groceries in Kona or Hilo before coming. This is a beautiful but remote place so it’s best to grab supplies long before. Love how close we were to the black sand beach and it’s a great place to stay if you want to explore Volcanoes National Park for a couple days.”
Pamela - Feb 2018 - “Great apartment!! Location very secluded, walking distance to see the turtles in black sand beach. Fantastic view of the ocean from living room. Steps from the pool yet very private!!! While in the spa we could see whales jumping in the ocean. The apartment was very clean. The resort was also very well maintained, beautiful green areas. Check in and check out very easy and convenient. The kitchen could benefit with some updates if you want more modern appliances/ kitchenware ( note though that everything in the kitchen did work perfectly). Description and pictures in Airbnb are very accurate. Would definitly recommend.”
Peter - Feb 2018 - “Unit 11 is a ground floor unit. Unit 10 is upstairs (above you). Unit 11 has a very comfortable King size bed, 4 piece bathroom and an equipped kitchen. Has cable tv, with lots of channels. The unit faces south with awesome ocean views across from the golf course. The swimming pool and hot tub is only steps away. 2 clean BBQs at your disposal near the pool area. There is a black sands beach just 12 minute walk from your unit where you will likely see many green sea turtles. Don't get too close, as they are an endangered specie. Colony one is in a quiet undeveloped area on the south end of the Island, so you will need to purchase your food and beverages before you arrive. (suggest either Hilo, or Kona). The closest restaurants are in the town of Volcano (27 miles) or Naalehu (8 miles). If you are looking for nightlife, pick Kona instead as Colony One is a bit isolated. But if you are seeking peace, quiet and a chance to unwind, unit 11 is your destination. Bring a good book and bathing suit. Relax and enjoy.”
Ronja - Mar 2018 "Good location, great condo close to pool! We had a great stay!"
Diana - Jun 2019 - “The location of this condo was beautiful. The condo itself was very comfortable and provided everything to make us feel well cared for.”
Kim - Aug 2019 - “The condo complex was wonderful! We had a pool right behind us and QUIET! They follow the rules, no late pool parties. The patio was private enough to enjoy a romantic dinner listening to the waves crash. We loved it and would go back. Thanks!”
Iwikauikaua - Jan 2020 - “Beautiful view of the ocean overlooking the pool and hot tub from the room! Bring groceries and your favorite beverage and you won’t have to leave. Aloha Julie, Thanks for a great vacation stay. The view of the ocean from the room is spectacular!”
Guyane - Jan 2020 - “Unit 11 overlooks the pool and access to the BBQ, it was great. The information received from the host was very clear and she quickly answered our questions.”
Allison - Jan 2020 - “We really enjoyed our stay in this condo! It’s got a great view of the ocean and is steps from the pool. The pool and hot tub were clean and often really quiet. People seem to gather around dinner time to BBQ and visit which can get a little noisy but it was never a problem for us. During the morning we had the pool to ourselves. The condo itself is older but has been partly remodelled. It was very clean and fresh. The kitchen is due for an update but it was well stocked with everything you need to cook meals for yourself and everything works fine. It’s a 4min walk to the black sand beach. The surrounding area is a shut down golf course and decrepit tennis courts so there’s not much to do in the immediate area but take full advantage of the pool and black sand beach. We would stay here again to relaxed and unwind.”
Mar 2020 - Meghan - “Loved the peaceful setting and the ocean view. The lava rock tub was enjoyable.”
Mar 2020 - George - “We had a wonderful stay at Julie's place, we look forward to returning!”
Cristin - Dec 2020 - “Nice cozy place very close to the black sand beach with the sea turtles. Julie is a very good communicator whose detailed instructions made for an easy check in and check out.”
