Great place to stay, short walking distance to downtown restaurants, coffee and pubs; comfortable bed, charming older home apartment. Good parking. Communication with host was great. Would stay again.
We visited Ames to see a basketball game, and this charming VRBO near downtown Ames was the perfect home base for our trip! While the house retains its historic character, it's been beautifully maintained and offers all the modern amenities we needed. The layout was surprisingly spacious and comfortable, making it feel much larger than expected. We especially appreciated the well-stocked kitchen, complete with a Keurig and a variety of coffee flavors – a great touch! The smart TV was also a bonus for relaxing after a day out. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a comfortable and convenient stay in Ames!
Appreciated the parking spot in garage and charm of the house. Maybe consider putting in a motion sensor light by front door as it’s pretty dark at night. Overall it’s a lovely place to stay!!
The owners were amazing with their communication. The apartment was perfect for a four adult stay. Two slept in living room and two in bedroom. Perfect size so we could all be together. I will stay here again!
It's a charming apartment & perfect for 4 adults to stay. I was clean, great location, and comfortable. Owners were quick to respond if we had any questions. We would stay here again.
This was a wonderful property to stay at. It was centrally licated for our needs in a suburban setting. The place was vlean and had all the necessary items I needed for the stay. The check in process was wonderful and the host was very communicative. I would recommend this place to anyone staying in Ames.
The self check in and out was very easy, and worked exactly as described. The bed was wonderfully comfortable and I slept better than at home. The kitchen seemed to be stocked with everything essential. The neighborhood was quiet, and conveniently located to downtown and to our friend's house. I would stay there again when we come to Ames.
It was a perfect place for us to stay for our trip to ISU to visit our son and go to the football game. We had a couple of our other boys with us and this rental gave us more space than a hotel room and worked well for our family. The living room had a pullout sofa and a futon so each of our boys were able to have their own bed and we had the bedroom. It was nice to have a kitchen where we could prepare our own breakfast with the food we brought. The apartment is in a safe quiet neighborhood in the historic area of Ames. We found it to be a very convenient location for us and a short drive to campus. Susan had everything ready for us when we arrived and was very quick to respond with any questions we had. We would definitely stay here again!

Ames visit
We were led to believe we would have the whole house. The people upstairs were extremely noisy between 10:00 pm and 2:00 am: loud talking, loud music. Turing water off and on. Our place was not very clean and the kitchen lacked basic cooking items. Not even pot holders. The garage needed swept out.
We enjoyed our stay here. It is a block off Duff, so easy to get in and out. Safe neighborhood with ample parking.
We had great communications from the host and the property had one of the best book with information.
The house is older, with all the character that goes along with that. But the big three (electrical, plumbing, and heat) were not an issue. The host has plentiful power strips everywhere. The hot water was almost instant and plentiful. And with the snow outside, we were never chilled in the house.
As other reviews have said, there are multiple units in this house. The other occupants were not loud, but the walls are super thin. The kitchen for one unit is directly adjacent to the bedroom in this unit and we could hear all their 2am cooking conversations plainly.
Can’t say enough about the ease of this location and the convenience of property parking. We had two cars and only needed to park one night on the street. Short walk to downtown , lovely Duff park, grocery store or their awesome library.
Our host was easy to communicate with and the accommodations were spacious.
The high ceilings certainly offered an open feeling and the AC units along with ceiling fan made temp control very easy as it changed often during our stay.
Being an older home, it was easy to hear other guests arriving , departing or moving around their apartments. This didn’t bother us or affect our sleep. We considered it a characteristic of this older home.
This place was just what we needed. We were in town to bring our son to college. Our visit was quick. The bed was comfy. Had everything that we needed.
