We found Linna's Lodging in a 2019 Michigan Upper Peninsula Bed & Breakfast brochure. We have stayed in numerous B&Bs over the years with wonderful experiences. Unfortunately, this was not one. When we called the number in the brochure, we were told to book online. Okay, we thought that was a bit strange for a B&B (and a first for us), but we did. That was the only contact we had with the owner (being asked to go online).
We arrive at the house, and there is no one there and the door is locked. There is signage posted on where to find the rooms, and a phone number in case we need to speak to someone. Well, since we couldn't open the door, we called. The owner said she was "at a fish fry" and that it was "impossible" that the door was locked. Yet it was. So she reluctantly gave me the code to open the door and told me to figure out which rooms we wanted for our party. (We had booked three rooms for our party of 8.) I asked if she would be home later, and she said no; she was out for the night but would put out pastries for the morning. Pastries? I thought it was odd, but we had other questions and asked those before hanging up.
We had sleeper sofas in two of the rooms. One of them did not have any bedding at all, and the sofa bed where my daughter was sleeping in our room had popcorn in between the sheets! There were no other sheets, blankets, or pillows that we could find, but we made the best of it.
The next morning, we came to the kitchen, and there were purchased donuts, cinnamon rolls, and pieces of carrot cake left on the counter with a coffee pot and sugar in a bowl. We booked this as a Bed & Breakfast, and I can honestly say I have had better "breakfasts" at inexpensive hotels. There were a total of 14 pieces of "pastry" on the counter--with 8 people in our party, and two other vehicles with out-of-state license plates. Needless to say, we chose to eat out.
The home itself had a layer of dust in the common rooms (the bedrooms and bathrooms were clean), and the kitchen was not clean at all. The floors needed sweeping and mopping, and dirty dishes were in the sink and on the stove.
The next morning there was no breakfast at all. We stayed two nights and never heard from our host, not even a note.
Another concern: the front door has a sign on it (from the inside) to leave it unlocked at all times. This was the case during our entire stay (except when we arrived to a locked door). We slept both nights with the front door unlocked.
First of all I am no longer a bed and breakfast. All of my advertising states rooms only and promotes the local restaurants. The older brochure was printed a year ago. I have had major surgery with complications so I had to discontinue being a b and b. That is why I sent them to the new site that explains that but they didn't read that. I waited for this group and since people come all hours I went out for a meal. I returned after 2 hours. Since there was a group I did not know which room to place them as I did not know how many in a room they needed. So I left directions to the room and said please pick the rooms you like. The reason for the sign is so no one gets locked out that is why I was surprised when she said they were locked out. I happily gave the keycode -why wouldn't I? The individual rooms lock so that is not a problem. This group was appalling in that the bakery I had put out was taken by them packages and all with only a small amount left for the two other rooms. I was available if they needed me . Very rude.
