I stayed at this home with my family of six. Gorgeous well maintained property, plenty of small decorative details that makes this historic home pop. The yard and landscaping are impeccable. Great location for day trips to lower and outer Cape. I would also add that the price seems like a value compared to others in similar location.
We had a great stay at Carine’s Harwich home. The house is very charming, has a lovely yard with a perfect deck for morning coffee and family dinners. It is well appointed and walkable to the beach. We bought a beach sticker and drove but can walk to Red River. Quick drive to Harwich Center and Chatham.
This is a cozy, clean, historic home on a charming property. The appointments and management are excellent. It has lots of nooks and crannies, a well-equipped kitchen, and a great outdoor shower. We would stay here again.
Carine generously accommodated my colleague and I a one night stay in her lovely, historic, Captains’ home.
The house was filled with charming historic pieces, providing interesting conversation.
Clean and welcoming. Felt secluded, however, driving distance to amenities was short.
Communication with Carine (host) was excellent. Highly recommend.
My family and I loved the location of this home! It was close to many of the mid cape towns which allowed us to do lots of day trips. Red River Beach is close by too!
The home is immaculate! Lots of history in this home! Home owner is very accommodating!
We enjoyed our week at this historic Harwich home. It was as described with books/movies to enjoy. The check-in process was easy and we had a quick response from the maintenance person when we had a question. The yard is quiet and private and we enjoyed the fire pit area. Close to the local beaches and town. We especially enjoyed the updated downstairs shower. Also a sweet touch of a welcome bottle of wine which was appreciated.
My husband and I had a very enjoyable stay in this charming historic home which was exactly as described. We loved everything about this lovely house in Harwich including its proximity to the beach. Carinne was an excellent host. She was always responsive to messages before our stay and made us feel welcome from the start. We could not have been more pleased with the entire experience. It was a wonderful week in a beautiful house in an ideal location with an outstanding host!
There is plenty of space in this old house within walking distance to the beach. Just be sure you understand that exiting two of the three bedrooms requires walking through one or two other bedrooms and that to get to the bedrooms and upstairs bath you will be climbing very narrow steep stairs. The outdoor shower and firepit are added delights. Bring your own dishtowels, TP and papergoods.
What a hidden gem… the property is beautiful and well preserved. We like to cook when we travel and there was nothing missing! Excellently stocked with all the kitchenware! There are gorgeous little nooks where one can find a place to disappear; to read, nap, THINK… the host was very reachable and very helpful at every turn! We will definitely stay at this property again! We got two days of rain for our two nights and two days stay but it was as nice to be inside this special cottage! IF you are traveling with dogs, Thompson Field Conservation area is less than half a mile away and it’s like bringing your dog to their idea of Disney World! Don’t miss it.
My family and I enjoyed every moment of our wonderful stay at this historic property. The house itself has been beautifully restored and maintained, giving it a warm, cozy, welcoming atmosphere. The amenities were outstanding— the kitchen and laundry were easy to use and the owner left clear and easy-to-follow instructions for everything in the house. There was a wonderful garden, complete with a fire pit (we did not use it, but you could if it was a chilly night!), an outdoor shower we all loved using, and a tranquil sitting area where my husband and I enjoyed reading. The walk to the beach was easy and basically a straight shot; we loved that it was so close and we never had to get in a car! Finally, we enjoyed an actual family game night after my teenage sons found the well-stocked board game closet! What a delightful little extra.
We had an amazing stay and will look to stay at this property again!
We loved our stay at this unique old house. I loved finding all the unique items and little cupboards throughout the house. Even found a cute little shoe shine box.
The upstairs bedrooms and bath are great, just watch your head. I hit mine a couple of times on the slanted ceilings, but it all adds to the charm of this great house.
It was well stocked with great books about the cape, videos, games, full kitchen, fire pit, grill and parking.
The beach is a short bike ride or walk away.
We had a great time crabbing and towns were only a short drive away.
We really enjoyed our stay in this charming home built in 1850 and loved that they had the history of the home posted in the kitchen. We hope to return soon. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay in your home.
From check in to check out, this house was exactly what we were looking for! The kitchen was well stocked, the sun porch was my favorite spot for my morning coffee (although sitting outdoors in the Adirondack chairs was a close second!) Tucked under the stairs is a closet full of games for all ages and the living room has books and movies for all ages and interests too! Plush, comfortable beds made for restful nights after our beach days. Close to everything including School House Ice Cream 🍦 and Brax Restaurant 🦞 YUM!! It’s a quick walk down the street to Red River Beach, but we found Bank Street Beach (5min drive) to be quieter and had less rocks and softer sand. Contact with the owners was super easy and they ensured our needs and more were met from the start. I’d definitely stay here again! This is a gem of a find! I’d give it 10/10!
Feel very lucky to have had a chance to stay in this beautiful historic house full of antique furnishings and modern amenities. Cozy living room with cute and comfy furniture was a favorite spot for everyone to lounge on a rainy day and the well stocked kitchen with new appliances made it joy to cook. Thought the connected bedrooms may be an issue but actually it’s quite well laid out and our teen ager appreciated the space arrangements. Very conveniently located- walking distance to the Red River beach ( and bank st beach, which has even finer sand) - try going down after dark if the weather is clear - lots and lots of stars! The nature walk near the house ( Thompson field) is indeed a doggy paradise like another reviewer said - our dog loved going there every day. The house may be old but it is very well taken care of and everything is so thoughtfully arranged down to every corner, including the subject-sorted bookshelves: it’s full of cute little surprises. The owner Carine was responsive and kind- a gift bottle of Rosé was a lovely touchI thank you! already miss it! We’d stay here again in a heartbeat.

Not Worth the Cost
We needed to make our own beds and put sheets on them that were stored in a chest. We paid a cleaning fee that was upwards to 20% of the total cost to our booking. It is unacceptable that we’re being instructed in the check out instructions to launder the bedsheets and put them on ourselves. I’m shocked none of the reviews note this. In its totality, it’s absurd that the cost of fees (cleaning fee, Vrbo service fee and lodging tax) was 42.6% of our total price. The upstairs comprises of three bedrooms in parallel to which the last two corner the bathroom and the final bedroom being the only means to go downstairs. The extent to which the fees comprised the total price in conjunction with asking us to launder the sheets and other asks like “to save time for our cleaning crew” when we are spending $200 on cleaning fees didn’t justify this booking. You might as well get a hotel where they don’t charge you $200 and ask you to do their job under the pretense of it being a courtesy.
We had a lovely stay at this charming cottage. There is a lovely garden and fire pit area. Walking distance to the beach. The owner is very responsive.
Lovely olde comfortable home. Perfect distance to beach. Everything we needed to dine in or get take out. Didn’t need the A/C downstairs as the trees shaded the house. Backyard was full of bunnies and turkeys throughout the week. Fire pit was a relaxing after a day on the beach.Interesting to know the history of the home and think of maritime families living there.5stars!
We enjoyed almost a week at The Cape and this house was a nice place to call home. The outdoor space is lovely and the house very cozy and comfortable. So happy we got to stay here!
Maison ayant conservé son cachet (datant de 1850) et bien située sur la péninsule. Grand terrain avec nombreux arbres (on ne voit pas les voisins à l'arrière), patio et coin feu de camps. Endroit très privé et paisible avec toutes les commodités.

Charming House & grounds
I felt misled by the description of the house. When I booked it for 5 adults in my family, it was not clear that the ONLY access to secondary sleep areas was through the master bedroom. The description did say the stairs are steep, but even a minor physical limitation would have precluded a family member from accessing the bedrooms. The beach was a long walk, and no map left for quickest access to the bike path. Internet went out on Friday, which precluded any TV through the end of our stay. The house and grounds were very charming, and the location was a short drive to anything we wanted to do. We did not reach out to hosts about internet failure. Rather, we googled it and since it appeared to be a fairly common problem we tried rebooting and then gave up. DVD player ate our DVD but refused to play it.
Afterward, host advised both had been quickly fixed. We enjoyed our stay because we had beautiful weather and were at the cape, but we would not go back to this property.
Very nice property for our family of five and small dog. Very much appreciated the welcome gift in the fridge. Stairs to second floor are very steep but otherwise great spot!
Cape Cod Historical home Walk to Red River Beach, down the road from Thompson' s field conservation area Very competitively priced (last season, motel next door charged $230 for a double room, similar properties charging higher rates...). Very pretty for the money Close to Harwich Port (+ ferry service to Nantucket) Sunday to Sunday rental (avoid Saturday turn over traffic!)
