Travel back in time nearly 200 years and stay at the Bazil Gordon House -built by America's first millionaire. Circa 1820, this house started as the private home of Bazil Gordon a short walk from his trading outpost in Historic Falmouth, VA directly on the Rappahannock River. The house has also been a civil war hospital, a stop on the underground railroad, a tavern, an excavation site that found venetian trade beads in the back yard, and it is now completely remodeled in 2021 to host guests.

We enjoyed our stay at the Bazil Gordon house. It was very well equipped with everything you need. It was also very clean and nicely decorated. Our family enjoyed the history of the house and the surrounding community, Thanks for a great stay!!
We were here for our son’s graduation from UMW. The home was had everything we needed and was super clean and comfortable. While a historic property, the inside is completely modern. It was also super convenient to everything in town. We very much enjoyed hanging out on the front porch and the as the weather was lovely. And also walking across the street to the park and river. Thank you so much!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We love history and we were thrilled to live within the storied walls, if only for a few days. There were plenty of towels, clean bedding and a well-stocked kitchen. We will have beautiful, peaceful memories of our time here and we are grateful to our host for a lovely weekend.
A great place to stay in an area so steeped in history. Perfect for our family's long holiday weekend. Communication with the owner was good and house was located centrally to Fredericksburg and all of its historic attractions.
Bottom Line Up Front: Our first time using Vrbo, we had a fantastic stay at a beautifully restored old house hosted by an amazing owner. Longer version: our daughter's family (4 kids aged from 9-15) is on sabbatical from the mission field overseas. We do not have room in our house to accomodate them comfortably, so I looked on multiple sites and found this house in Fredericksburg, a half hour from where we live. Both parents and 4 kids were all able to have a bed to sleep in, and with the loft and study having pullout beds we were to stay with them their final night. Everyone was able to spread out and have room, and sleep in comfortable beds. The situation was ideal. The owner, Jared, was the perfect host. He guided me through "first Vrbo-itis" smoothly, patiently explaining the details. His communication skills were excellent, and he was very responsive. He just made everything easy and efficient while we stayed there. The house is BEAUTIFUL. IMHO, it has the perfect blend of modern features with old school character. We loved being able to touch brick and wood from 200 years ago, but also having modern conveniences. The kitchen was great, well stocked with paper products and any cooking equipment we could possibly want. Having all the kitchen equipment was actually therapeutic for our son-in-law, who used to be a professional chef and still loves to cook. The area around the house is great for family activities. In all, a fabulous experience for our family.
Adorable, fully-renovated historic house! Very close to downtown Fredericksburg with tons of options for coffee shops and restaurants. Booked this for myself and three co-workers so the four bedrooms were ideal.
An amazing background and story for an historic home, that one can experience as part of the feel as part of a visit to the Old Dominion.
We really appreciated the experience, and loved the home.
For a great price, I’d say it was definitely worthwhile as a place to stay, as well as an excellent historic backdrop and a most memorable vacation highlight.
Convenient location near sites in downtown Fredericksburg, and a stones throw from a lovely shaded, paved walking path. Comfortable home for our family of four.
Everything about our stay was perfect. We came in for my son's High Graduation and had a lovely time. The beds were all unanimously super comfortable. We were also very appreciative of the early check-in. We highly recommend this property for anyone coming to the Fredericksburg, VA area.
Loved this rental! The six of us had plenty of room. The house was very clean and well appointed. Nice yard and great front and rear porches. Will definitely recommend.
My two daughters and two granddaughters stayed here for two nights. We found it exceptionally clean, charming, beautifully decorated and more than met all our needs. Loved the upstairs set up with four bedrooms and two baths, Bike and walking trails, YMCA with outdoor pool, downtown of Fredericksburg with nice shops and restaurants all nearby. We had a great weekend!
We loved the location of the home. It was very centrally located for all we wanted to do. You could feel the history around you! The home itself was very well laid out. It was set up in a way that allowed us to be together in the evening, but we each had a room to go to at the end of the day. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were cozy! We would definitely stay here again.
My wife and I along with our guest love the location love the house love the layout it was perfect. One point to let you know about the upstairs bathroom it faces the back wall, the shower curtain and the seal around the bathtub is getting to be a little moldy. Otherwise everything was great and we do it again if we were in the area.
We had a great time and the house had everything that we needed. I didn’t know how to change the temperature on the second floor, but the response was super quick and was resolved within two minutes of me sending a message! It worked perfectly it was just user error.
I stayed at the Bazil Gordon home with friends and family for a three day weekend. We were celebrating the recovery of our friend who was in a catastrophic accident one year ago. This is the first time she had left her Mother's home. We sat on the peaceful back deck and enjoyed the "old south' lawn, as well as the neighbor's beautiful gardens. It could not have been more peaceful. The house was very clean and neatly organized. Thank you to Jared who did everything he could to make our stay possible. Rent this house with confidence.
The Basil Gordon house is a gem. Well-kept and we’ll-equipped along with a super location convenient to Fredericksburg and shopping (groceries, etc). The owner provides all the info you need in a printed binder. The only downside was some exterior/vehicular noise, but I’m still going with a 5-star rating. You will not be disappointed.
Visiting a historic area and staying in the Brazil Gordon house completed our experience. The arrangement of the four upstairs bedrooms and two bathrooms created privacy for each family. We had grandparents on the front end of the house and a family of four facing the backyard. The river park across the street was an additional pleasant surprise. We dined at the wonderful cafe within easy walking distance. Even though the house is old the renovations have created modern day comforts with tasteful decor. Would be interested in staying there again? Absolutely!
