About Dennis Naughton
I am a retired career educator, having been a classroom teacher for many years and later a high school principal, My father, a master carpenter, built the house in the early 1950's. At first it was a summer house, but my parents later winterized it for year-round use. This was the house in which I spent my summers growing up. When my mother passed away I inherited the house. At that time I had it completely renovated, while retaining its traditional character and charm.
Why Dennis Naughton chose Falmouth
This 'doll's house' is uniquely situated for both relaxation and activity, having ready access to beach, harbor and town center. Because of the family memories and our affection for the area, my wife Claire (also a retired career educator) and I maintain the house and yard as a labor of love.
What makes this House unique
Our favorite spot is the porch, where cooling sea breezes enhance viewing the roses, rhododendrons, hydrangeas, mountain laurel, wysteria, holly trees and other plants that bloom in sequence from spring through fall.

A perfect spot for a family vacation
We absolutely loved the charm of this cottage and left with many wonderful memories from our time on the property- cozy breakfasts in the kitchen, dinners at the picnic table, refreshing outdoor showers, and passing time reading or playing on the porch. The location also could not be better-both in walking distance of the beaches and Main St... we didn't even have to get in the car to enjoy some of the best spots Falmouth!
Delightful home in a perfect location!
This property was just as charming, convenient, and well-equipped as advertised. The house was perfectly-sized for our needs (4 adults) and since the weather was perfect, we ate all of our at-home meals on the side porch, where there are two cafe-style tables and plenty of chairs. (There is an indoor eating counter for two, but if four wanted to eat indoors you'd need to open a gate-leg table in the living room.) The picnic table in the yard and additional chairs enabled us to accommodate some relatives who were also in the neighborhood that week for a barbeque. We used the outdoor shower exclusively because - outdoor showers! So great! Plenty of comfy seating and small tables in the living room so we could read, do a puzzle, and play board games.
While we walked to town for some meals, the full-sized fridge and well-stocked kitchen made it easy to cook some ourselves, too. I love a gas stove (which the house has) and the outdoor grill worked like a charm. Having a clothesline was great for post-beach drying, and the one in the backyard has ample space for big-towel hanging. The washer and dryer worked well and were not hard to access down in the basement. Instructions for use of all appliances are clear.
So easy to walk to the beach and to town. We brought two bikes but also used two that come with the house and they are good quality.) We rode on the Shining Sea Bikepath daily, getting to which requires either a jaunt through town or a ride along Surf Drive, but the drivers in Falmouth defer to bikes during the summer so it's not too scary. Despite the fact that the house is off of a busy street, there was no traffic noise. It was quiet for sleeping.
We had a perfectly lovely time and would rent this property again for a vacation alone as a couple or with two additional family members. The property owners have thought of everything one might need!
Thank-you Christine for taking the time to do such a positive thorough review!
Perfect Beach Cottage
We had a lovely stay at this perfect beach cottage! Well equipped with everything you could need for your stay. Just a few short blocks to the beach and a little over a 1/2 mile stroll into town. If I could own a beach house, this is the one I would pick. Breakfast on the peaceful porch each morning was a great way to start the day. Thanks so much for letting us stay in this wonderful home!
Comfortable, well-equipped home in prime location
We had a very nice week in Dennis and Claire's spotless, well-maintained, well-equipped house. The spacious porch, overlooking a private and peaceful yard with Rose of Sharon and hydrangea bushes in bloom in August, is a wonderful place to sit and read. (And the porch table & chairs are a good supplement to the in-house kitchen seating which consists of two tall stools at a counter) Dennis and Claire have really thought of everything. Each of the bedrooms has a fan (or two!), lots of clothes hangers, and plenty of empty dresser drawers. Along with the bikes (in great condition!), there are helmets, a bicycle pump, and bike locks. We also appreciated the clothesline for our wet bathing suits, the outdoor shower, a very good washer and dryer, an abundance of kitchen towels and beach towels and bath towels, a perfect skillet for scrambled eggs, and coffee filters for the coffee machine. And you can't beat the location--it's a short walk to the beach and a very reasonable walk to town. We understand that air-conditioning is being installed in Fall, 2016, which will be a nice addition given the August heat and humidity. Dennis was extremely responsive to any questions we had, and answered quickly & completely.
Thanks so much for taking the time to provide such a thorough review!
Fantastic holiday cottage
We had a wonderful stay at this lovely cottage for one week in July and we would definitely recommend this accommodation to anyone looking to holiday on the Cape.
The cottage itself was lovely, suitable for a family of 4. It was sympathetically decorated and was exceptionally clean with everything you could need - it was just like a home from home. The living room was cosy - free WiFi and cable TV was much appreciated by the children. The beds and pillows in both rooms were very comfortable, there was more than enough wardrobe space and the kitchen had all necessary amenities. We also liked the porch area (great for enjoying a glass of wine) and the outside shower which was very refreshing after a trip to the beach.
We booked the cottage itself not only on the description, pictures and glowing reviews but also because the cottage came with bicycles - which is what we wanted - to cycle the Shining Sea Bikeway and visit the beach. We used 3 of the bikes which more than suited our needs, all were in good working order. I especially found the white bike with the rear metal pannier really useful for carting around our swimming gear and bottles of water!
We loved being in the Falmouth area as it was a great base to explore Cape Cod and Martha's vineyard. The town of Falmouth - an easy walk from the cottage - had a fantastic selection of restaurants and shops and had a real community spirit. Definitely try out Simply Divine Pizza and Ben and Bill's Ice Cream! The house is also close to the beach and we were able to cycle to further beaches which was a great bonus.
From the very start our dealings with Dennis were fantastic, he was quick to respond to any questions, he was informative and very helpful. In addition, at the end of our stay Dennis was a lifesaver when we left our passports in the cottage and he drove well over 2 hours at night to meet us in order to return them!! We will be ever grateful to Dennis for his generosity in helping us out.
This is a great cottage - you will definitely enjoy your stay here.
The house is located in the Historic District of Falmouth--2 minute walk to beach and 8 minutes to town center. Town center has great playground for kids. Falmouth Harbor is a short walk. Ferries are available there to both Oak Bluffs and Edgartown on Martha's Vineyard. Shining Sea bike path connects to Woods Hole and North Falmouth. Yard is beautifully landscaped.
Note to runners and running enthusiasts: This house is on the Falmouth Road Race course.
