About this property

Large Cabin in the Kiamichi Wilderness

Whether you’re looking for a family vacation, a refreshing retreat or a place to reconnect with nature we can help you make your next getaway one to remember. The Crescent Moon Lodge and Retreat Center, set in Pushmataha County with origins under the Choctaw Nation, honors and respects the heritage of American Indians. A canopy of trees beckons visitors, who are greeted by the likeness of a shaman, symbolizing the first teachers and spiritual leaders. A river runs through the property of the Crescent Moon Lodge and Retreat Center, carrying the life force of water. The land features a large pond as well as a lake that is fed by natural springs, which also nourish the land. Visitors are invited to explore the entire 160 acres and appreciate the deer, eagles, turkeys and numerous other birds and wildlife that call the property their home.

Amenities include sleeping accommodations for 24 or more, five bathrooms, a large open living area with a stunning oversized stone fireplace, a full kitchen, a wrap-around porch and a hot tub. Enjoy panoramic views, cultivated gardens, a five-acre pond, three docks, a river, catch-and-release fishing, bird and wildlife watching, a stone labyrinth, trails for jogging, hiking and exploring, and a fire pit for roasting marshmallows.

Self cater with a full gourmet kitchen and dining room completely stocked with stove-top, oven cookware and refrigerator. Also included are dishes, utensils and glassware. Don’t feel like cooking? No problem! For groups of 10 or more enjoy chef prepared farm-to-table meals made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Meals can be customized to take into account any dietary needs.

Soak under the stars in our outdoor hot tub, enjoy our gardens and labyrinth, hike or jog the 6 miles of nature trails. The lodge also has a full laundry/utility room, central heat and air, and fresh linens.

Wifi and cell signal services are limited at Crescent Moon Lodge. Our guests love taking the opportunity to unplug and unwind!

Weekend of De-Bach-ery!
Words cannot emphasize how amazing this property is!! An absolutely beautiful home and views to match. The owner/operators of Crescent Moon Lodge and Retreat treated us like family but were not "in our way" by any means. (Tandy was so sweet and accommodating!) They checked on us to ensure we had everything we needed and were readily available if something came up. We had a group of 13 adults sleep comfortably with extra beds available, and an adequate number of bathrooms. The layout of the house brings everyone together in the spacious living room and kitchen - seating was never an issue - and still have our own space to retreat to if we needed a little privacy. We stayed over Labor Day Weekend to celebrate a combo bachelor-bachelorette party in the woods surrounded by nature and all the delightful amenities included with this property. We utilized the brand new hot tub (literally was finishing installation when we arrived) and fire pit multiple times, and we used the big luscious yard to play slip-n-slide flip cup relay race. This property allowed us to have a fun, safe, drunken weekend of de-bach-ery with our closest friends. Highly, highly recommend for ANY large group! It is evident that this is a very kid-friendly environment with lots of outdoor games and there was a closet filled with arts and crafts supplies. Once again, I can't put into words how much fun we had and how this space made that possible. 10/10 would go back and do it again! A HUGE thank you to the owners!! Y'all were wonderful and provided a phenomenal property!

Church Youth Getaway
This property had everything we needed for our church youth group. From big open area to the ponds and the hiking trails. The cabin itself is really neat too. The fire place was perfect for singing under the stars. The property manager was super helpful too. The only suggestion I have for the property is to have more folding chairs and tables for larger group.

About the host

The Crescent Moon Lodge and Retreat Center is a special, spiritual place founded by Dr. Suzanne Hales, whose life work has been helping people heal, achieve internal peace and realize their true potential.

Dr. Suzanne Hales is a licensed professional counselor, certified Imago Therapist and a Jungian analyst-in-training who owns and operates Counseling and Consulting Associates of North Texas in McKinney, Texas. Dr. Hales founded the Crescent Moon Lodge and Retreat Center to provide a soothing, comforting sanctuary for the soul for anyone who desires renewal. Here, Dr. Hales herself found a new purpose – a new way to offer her clients a healing path.

The 60-acre property has been in Dr. Hales’ family since 1941. In 2002, Dr. Hales’ mother, LaVerne Ewing, embarked upon plans to build a new home. The 79-year-old told her family that she was going to build a log house because she’d always wanted to live in one. Mrs. Ewing waited three years for her dream home – a 5,000-square-foot log cabin – to be constructed exactly to her plans, and she enjoyed living in the exquisite structure for five years before passing away.

The night her mother died, Dr. Hales sat on the home’s porch full of grief wondering, “What will I do with this huge beautiful cabin?”

Then, in the late hours of the night, just above the tree line appeared the crescent moon. “I knew for the first time that I would offer her home, her refuge, as a retreat center, a place of healing and comfort for those who would seek beauty in the world of nature. So the name of this place is the Crescent Moon, because the crescent moon allows enough light for travelers to see the next step, not enough light for the whole journey. And a journey it is – the journey inward under the light of the crescent moon to find the self, the authentic self.”
