Ocean Reef management company Horrible
The house is an 8 out of 10. The Problems I had was that the house smelled like a gas line was leaking for the first 2 days, until we had the heated pool turned on, after that the smell stopped.
Also the second day I was there cleaning crew came in and shampoo the couch while we were out at the beach and gave us no heads up on cleaning company was coming. So the couch was wet for a day and a half.
Also all plates and utensils literally had pizza still on them from who ever rented house before our stay.
But with everything being said I would not rent from Ocean Reef Vacation rentals and real estate ever again.
Not at all what is represented online.
The house looks nothing at all like the photos. They must have an amazing real estate photographer. Looks like a mansion, with mansion prices, but is NOTHING anywhere close to that. Much much much smaller than the photos show. No pantry. No plugs in the “master” bathroom. Broken pullout bed. Dead bugs on the floor. Rotting wood around the pool. WiFi almost doesn’t work. Doors hard to open. Outside not kept up at all, rusty nails everywhere. Oh my gosh, I could go on and on and on. Plain and simple, complete waste of money for the house we received. I’d keep looking. Will not be back.
Polly, We are very sorry that you ran into these problems during your stay. I do not see any notes that you contacted us to have any of these items looked in to. In the future please call us so that we may address the problems while you are in house. Thank you for your feedback and we hope your travels bring you back soon.
Updated, beautiful condo
The condo is newly updated with beach decor and is very enjoyable to relax in. It’s a short walk to the beach. I enjoyed the pool, especially toward evening when the sun wasn’t as harsh and the house cast shade over the back deck. The showers are not comfortable due to intense water pressure that feels like little needles, so I suggest updating the shower heads. The kitchen was well stocked with every appliance and gadget we could ask for, but there is not a lot of place to store food (besides the fridge) as all the cabinets are full. There are shelves in the kitchen that I used to store some of our dry goods and the rest I put in a bedroom closet. There was plenty of extra blankets and pillows and the supply of towels they supplied were sufficient for bathing. The upstairs loft was very warm, so we got a fan to make it more comfortable for the kids sleeping upstairs. The views from the decks are incredible! My biggest complaint is the gate code for the beach didn’t work after the first day and the management company (Ocean Reef) was unable to help in any way. We simply walked through the parking lot to avoid the locked gate, but I found the “we can’t help you” response completely unacceptable.
Sheila, We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your vacation! In the future please call us with any complaints you may have. The "We can not help you" email is definitely unacceptable. I know for a fact that we could have helped you in every way possible, We hope that your travels bring you back soon. Thank you for choosing Ocean Reef Resorts
House is great!
I wish I could give the rental company and the house two different reviews. The house was great! (Besides the fact that there is barely anything in the kitchen. We spent a lot of extra money on dish soap, dishwasher tabs, spices, hot pad holders, tin foil, etc. because there was none of it! But that was clearly not the house’s fault and is on the company) Great location! Cozy atmosphere! Big rooms! Pool was in the sun most of the day...it was wonderful!
I was a little less than impressed with the rental company, however. I will say, leading up to our trip I dealt with a few people there who were extremely pleasant. One being Nelson. He was more than willing to help with whatever we needed. However, the day we arrived we were told to call in to try and get an early check in. We have a two year old who needed a nap after a 445 am wake up call. We called and left a message on their automated system. After landing, I called back to make sure no one had tried to contact us while we were flying. The gentleman was a little bit hostile with me and had an attitude when saying, “Yeah! Your husband already called. We said we would contact you if we could get you in earlier. The cleaning company hasn’t been there yet.” Yikes. Okay. Sorry to bother you. About an hour later, my husband called to ask another, quick question and was greeted with the same attitude and hostility. Very unprofessional.
At this point, we had no where to go with an insane amount of luggage, so we asked our driver just to take us to the house. We hung out outside of the home for probably two and a half hours until 4:00 pm. Guess what? No cleaning company ever came and went. Not a soul. So, this tells me that the house, WAS, indeed cleaned and ready to go and we COULD have gotten in early. I’m not trying to imply that the man I spoke with intentionally wouldn’t let us in, but I am still very confused how the communication was so poor that we were never called and given a code to get it. It was really frustrating and started our trip off in a poor way. It made me not want to deal with this company again. I know early check ins are not guaranteed. This is perfectly understandable. But to be told twice that the house was not cleaned and that was the only thing holding us back, when it indeed was, is just really confusing. We are hoping to make Destin a “go-to” vacation spot in the future, but I’m not sure Ocean Reef rentals will be our choice in the future.
Shealyn, We are very sorry that you ran into this problem during check in. I will be sure to congratulate Nelson on his helpfulness. I want to apologize for whomever gave you the attitude and bad impression of the company, we are a family owned and ran company who strive to make our guests stay as comfortable as possible. In the future please call us with any problems you may have or for any missing items in the home and we will be more than happy to address them immediately! We hope that this does not deter you from using our services again and hope to see you in the near future.
Hurricane Michael ruined my 50th birthday
Property was great for the 36 hours we were there. Ocean Reef offered no refund. Nor did they notify us to evacuate. We took the advice of our Memphis meteorologist. Disappointed! This is exactly how people get injured or killed due to reluctance to tell guests to evacuate because the revenue is more important.
Christi, thank you for taking the time to review your most recent stay with us. I first want to apologize for this drastic occurrence that took place. During Hurricane Michael emails and push notifications were sent from our mobile app to inform all guests of updated storm conditions. Due to high occupancy levels at that time these messages were sent in place of phone calls to keep all guests up to date. As you know, a hurricane is an unpredictable work of nature which we do offer Traveler's Insurance to protect the investment of your rental. Seeing how you did not purchase the insurance when making your reservation a refund was unable to be provided. In light of the situation, a discount was offered towards future stays for all guests who were effected by the storm and did not have insurance. Again, we apologize for this unfortunate situation and hope to see at the beach again soon.
