Mountain Glory Train Station and Train Rides
The Mountain Glory Station and The Glory Train is a miniature train and depot atop the beautiful Mena Mountain fourteen miles west of Mena, Arkansas. The Glory Train runs along two miles of track with stops along the way to view the southern vista or to click a picture of wildlife along its route. The attraction is located just 5 minutes from the Lazy Bear Cabin. They also have Miniature golf, snacks and an ice cream shop.
The train was started in the late 50’s by local businessmen seeking to add attractions to the Mena area. After nearly 60 years of running, the train is still going strong. Be sure to visit this attraction when you stay at our property!
Hiking Trails
There are many trails located close to the area. Lovers’ Leap Trail is a short one mile trail and is a must do. The trail got its name from a local legend of an American Indian maiden jumping to her death when her sweetheart failed to return from a battle. Lovers’ Leap Trail is atop Rich Mountain just 5 minutes from the cabin.
The Black Fork Mountain Wilderness Trail is a branch of the Ouachita Trail in the Ouachita National Forest and is located about 5 miles from the cabin. The trail crosses rugged terrain and summits atop Black Fork Mountain. Free parking at the trailhead. The total distance in and out is a bit over 11 miles so start early or make it a two day hike!
Talimena Scenic Drive and Byway
The Talimena Scenic Drive is a National Scenic Byway stretching 54 miles from Mena Arkansas to Talihina Oklahoma. Our cabin is located a short drive to the Scenic Byway and serves as a great sightseeing adventure. Head east and you will have about an 18 mile drive to Mena Arkansas or head west and you can drive another 36 miles of the byway. There are lots of things to see on the byway.
Rich Mountain Store and Restaurant
You won’t want to miss one of Steve’s hamburgers or the all day breakfast at the Rich Mountain Store! Have your burger any way you like (ask about their spicy burgers!) and a great breakfast served all day! Local flair and a country atmosphere makes this a have to do when staying at the Lazy Bear Cabin. Locals gather for a good game of dominoes and to tell a tale or two! They have some essentials at the store too!
Queen Wilhelmina Restaurant
We recommend dinner at the Queen’s Restaurant as it's only a short trip from our cabin up Rich Mountain. They have an all you can eat seafood buffet Friday and Saturday nights and great menu items. You can order your favorite wine, beer, or mixed drink with dinner here too.
The restaurant at Queen Wilhelmina serves delicious southern cuisine. Breakfast is served from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. Lunch is served 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Dinner is served from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Nearly no restaurant stays open past 9pm in this area so don’t be late!
The property is located near the Kansas City Southern railroad and there is a crossing 650 feet away from the property. We think this adds to the charm of the area. The area would have never been developed or accessible without the railroad so we are thankful that the train comes through the area. All of Mena also have train crossings and thus have trains with bells and whistles. Travelers who are not accustomed to trains may object to the noise and there is much less train traffic on weekends. They can be heard from almost any location within 10 miles of the rails. The approach in the Rich Mountain Area for the trains is also one of the steepest of any rail system in the mid western rail region.
