This charming, light-filled and pet-friendly cottage is steps away from the neighborhood river beach with a designated swimming area and a gorgeous sunset view. The house has a lovely, south facing sunroom, with windows on three sides that is perfect for sipping morning coffee and evening cocktails. Open the windows to enjoy a fresh breeze off the water at end of the street. Two decks overlook a grassy yard and bird lovers will delight in the sweet chirps and trills of the local songbirds that nest in the shrubs and trees. Just off the back deck is a ‘mini-beach’ with firepit!
A fully-equipped and renovated kitchen with gas range, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, and oven is made for cooking and eating. Grill-lovers can take their pick of gas grill or charcoal on the decks. Or, take a five minute drive to one of the local restaurants in Niantic for fresh seafood, Indian cuisine, sushi, pizza, bakery, local/organic food, pub fare, and a brewery.
There are two cottage-sized bedrooms upstairs (Double and Queen) and a small convertible room with TV and twin trundle bed. Both the upstairs and downstairs bathrooms have showers (tub upstairs) and there is a washer and dryer on the main floor.
If you feel like staying inside, relax on the chaise with a good book or sprawl on the comfy couch and stream your guilty pleasure on the flat screen TV. If you are looking for outdoor adventure - swim, paddle, hike, or bike at one of the many nearby beaches, boat launches, and parks.
Included in your stay: Wi-Fi, linens, towels, soap, shampoo/conditioner, bug repellent, sunscreen, beach towels, beach bags, chairs and a portable mini-cooler, household items, first-aid kit, fire extinguisher, and back up supplies (toothpaste/toothbrush, razors, shaving cream, deodorant, umbrella, etc.)
Within a five-minute drive are three public beaches on the Sound and the Niantic boardwalk. Locally-owned shops and restaurants line the main street of Niantic, along with home-made ice cream shops! Thursday mornings is the Farmer's Market at the East Lyme Town Hall. Within a 15-minute drive is Harkness Memorial State Park outside of New London, the historic New London seaport and Ocean Beach district and park with a live summertime music, a beach and waterpark, Rocky Neck State Park, Waterford Beach and many, many other attractions! A little further drive East is the wonderful town of Mystic and the historic Stonington Borough.
Not as crowded as Mystic and with many options for activities, the Cottage on Wood is a wonderful choice for your home-away-from-home summer vacation. Welcome!
