## Emplacement
Pia is a commune in the Pyrénées-Orientales region of France, north of Perpignan, to which it borders.
Its 13 km² territory is crossed by the Agly river and the Claira stream, and lies in the Roussillon plain, more precisely in the natural region of Salanque, named for its "salty" lands, bordered by the sea and once ideal for market gardening.
Already occupied in ancient times, the future village appeared in the Xᵉ century, having become the property of the bishop of Elne. Fortified, the seigneury then passed to the bishops of Narbonne, before the Franco-Spanish wars curbed its development.
It wasn't until the 19th century that Pia really began to recover, enjoying real prosperity thanks to its agricultural land and the rise of the vine. Today, winegrowing remains the town's most important economic asset. With a population of almost 9,000 (and growing thanks to its proximity to Perpignan), Pia, close to the beaches, boasts a rich heritage and a wide range of leisure activities.
