About this property

Torch Lake Waterfront Cottage

Our cozy family cottage has 100' of private waterfront on beautiful Torch Lake. The cottage has housed our family visits to Torch Lake for generations, and we'd like to share our little escape with others. Torch Lake is considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the world and with one look into the crystal clear blue water you'll see why. We are fortunate to have a very gradual increase in depth for several hundred feet out into the water, creating a striking sight where the drop-offs signal the deeper blue depths of Torch. We have a dock that extends almost 90' out to the lake, with a 12'x12' platform at the end for enjoying some time in the sun. At the end of the dock it's not even 3' deep! Just down the road is the Torch River Bridge, near the famous Torch Lake Sandbar and Torch River. Just across the lake is the town of Alden.

In 2009 we made significant renovations, completely modernizing the kitchen, bathroom, and living areas (but taking care to retain the old cottage look and feel). In the years since we have added a clothes dryer and mooring anchor, and rebuilt the stone wall on the lakeshore and added sand to our small beach area out front.

Boating Information: Torch Lake is a great place to water-ski, go tubing, and do all sorts of other water sports. We have a 90' long dock that can be used to access boats, although the water is still shallow at the end! Public accesses are close by. We have a mooring anchor that can be used, and local nearby marinas also offer overnight slip and trailered storage options that our guests have used.

Golf Information: There are a number of top golf courses in the area, including designs by Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Gary Player. Some of the more popular locations include Shanty Creek Resorts with 'The Legend', designed by Arnold Palmer, as well as 3 other courses and Grand Traverse Resort & Spa with 'The Bear' by Jack Nicklaus and 'The Wolverine' by Gary Player.

Area Festivals: Elk Rapids Harbor Days --- Traverse City Cherry Festival --- Alden Days --- Interlochen Summer Arts Festival --- Petoskey Festival on the Bay --- Suttons Bay Art Festival --- Northport-Leelanau Peninsula Wine And Food Festival --- Suttons Bay Jazzfest --- Charlevoix Venetian Festival --- just to name a few!!

Note: Any reservation request will require a signed rental agreement before booking is considered final.

The local township has severely restricted short-term rentals. Only a limited number of short-term rental weeks are available.

I've been going to the cottage since I was 6 months old and spent entire summers there as a kid. I am no longer able to spend such long periods of time at the lake but the cottage and surrounding area have a very special place in my life and I am grateful that they do in my children's lives as well. The swimming, boating, campfires, exploring, wildlife, and nonstop summer activities all around the area can keep you busy all day every day!

Why they chose this property

My great-grand-aunt built the cottage in the 1930's and our family has visited every year since. It's been our little slice of heaven! After completing significant remodeling work in 2009, including a completely new kitchen, new bathroom, refinished wood floors, new electrical work, and so much more, we decided to make the cottage available for rent and to share our escape with others. Although Torch Lake is a popular destination, and the cottage is right on the lake, the lake is very large and the occasional nearby boat traffic doesn't interrupt a quiet and peaceful time sitting outside under the trees, taking in the views of the clear, blue water.

What makes this property unique

There are two amazing experiences every time we go to the cottage. First, driving over Torch River Bridge and seeing the lake for the first time that year. The sight of the seemingly infinite shades of blue sparkling water is breathtaking. Second, when arriving at the cottage, the scent of the pine trees that surround the property. My wife claims that the view from the kitchen window (of the lake immediately in front of the cottage) almost makes you WANT to do the dishes! The surrounding area has plenty to do - it was my own personal summer camp growing up (fishing, swimming, boating, hiking...). The area towns are great places to visit, and there are many great restaurants as well. My family now has a long drive each summer to make it to the cottage (about 15 hours) but wouldn't miss it for the world. Our kids love it and don't stop talking about it year-round!
