About this property

Cliff Dweller: Suspended from the Ridgeline

Cliff Dweller is the first cliff-mounted rental in the Red River Gorge!  With the goal of creating a more intimate experience with the beautiful sandstone the Gorge is known for, The Canopy Crew set out to build what is now one of the most unique and adventurous dwellings you can dream of.  This innovative design blends tree and stone, architecture and engineering, and comfort with exposure.

When you arrive at the parking area, your jaw will slowly unhinge as you stare up at the massive floating staircase that takes you to the top of the mountain.  This will likely be the largest floating staircase you will ever witness.  For your future bragging rights, here is the official step count: 177 steps to get to the kitchen, 45 steps to get to the bedroom, and 11 steps to get to the roof deck!  Please note, we strongly recommend packing in back packs vs suitcases, and bags instead of a cooler (there is a fridge inside).  Simply put, the view from your bed will not be forgotten.  You may choose to stay on the cliff your entire trip.

At the top of the floating staircase you will find the first structure of the Cliff Dweller located at the base of the cliff.  This quaint abode holds the kitchen, bathroom, and lofted queen bed.  Note the live edge woodwork that was entirely salvaged and milled in house.  From the porch head up the spiral staircase to reach the master bedroom.  From here, kick your shoes off, take a seat on the bed, and contemplate how we got that giant triple pane window up there!  Soak in the view; this is probably the most romantic bedroom in the gorge.  Don’t forget to head to the rooftop deck where you can reach up and touch the massive stone shelf that the bedroom is hanging from!

Sandstone Drifter and Golden Teacher- your "Cliff-Top Neighbors" also share the suspended staircase :)

-- Amenities --

The Cliff Dweller has two queen beds, is heated and cooled, has an electric range and mini fridge and is designed for four guests.  The outdoor lighting will be on until midnight and then we switch it off to allow the dark night forest sky to be just that--dark!  We recommend packing a flashlight or headlamp to aid in moving around after the lights are off.

Please note that this treehouse is on a 3/4 mile, bumpy, sometimes muddy, gravel road.  Some two-wheeled vehicles can make it to the cabin, but four wheel drives have a much easier time.  For this reason we highly recommend a 4 or all wheel drive vehicle!
