Romantic Cathar castle with private pool

You rent the ground floor shown in the pictures with three double rooms for six people. If necessary, you can also book the upper floor of the property for another six people. We would be happy to send you photos of the upper floor upon request. It is not possible to rent only the upper floor separately. This means that the entire property including pool, garden and terraces is always available for you to use, even if you only rent the ground floor.

The representative ground floor offers a knightly atmosphere under high Romanesque arches and behind thick natural stone walls. A total of up to six people can live here comfortably. All floors are made from handmade terracotta from the region. Two of the three romantic bedrooms have four-poster beds. Two bedrooms are located on the mezzanine, one of them can be reached via a staircase in the living room, the other via an external staircase. There are two bathrooms (the larger one made of red marble from the region), each with a shower or tub. There is also a washing machine. In the very spacious and very well equipped kitchen there is a large dining table with space for twelve people. The impressive living room has leather sofas and a huge fireplace.

In 2015, a 10x4m outdoor pool with staircase access was built in the courtyard of the castle complex. The heated pool has an electrically operated pool cover, an efficient filter system and a pool robot.

The 14 parcels of land on the property have a total area of 6 hectares, including their own valley south of the castle with a brick grotto and spring as well as the old Cathar ruin (12. Century) on the ridge above the residential building. Part of the castle was rebuilt in 1784 and tastefully renovated over the past 30 years. The majestic charm of the building was preserved.

The Katharerburg is located on the idyllic edge of the Pyrenees, on a small hill above the quiet village of Castelnau-Durban between Foix and Saint-Girons. Here in the Département Ariège, region Midi-Pyrénées, you can reside in a historic property and experience a very pristine and nature-loving France away from the usual tourist paths. The 18-hole golf course de l'Ariège is just a 10-minute drive away. In the house, 4 bicycles are waiting for you to explore the surroundings. Hiking, climbing, canyoning and rafting are other leisure activities where you can get to know the beautiful Ariège.

On the optionally additionally bookable upper floor (price on request), the 180 square meters under the roof have been transformed into a separate holiday apartment in recent years. A total of up to six people can be accommodated here. The floor in the charming apartment is made from handmade southern French terracotta. The living room is friendly and bright. Thanks to the cast iron stove, it is nice and warm even in winter. In addition to three cozy bedrooms with double beds, a bathroom with bathtub, shower and washing machine was installed. The open kitchen is equipped with a stove, oven and refrigerator.

The upper floor is not rented separately. You have the entire system to yourself, even if you are only two!

Bed linen, tea towels and towels (1 shower towel and 1 towel per person) are included in the rental price from 2020. Please bring your own pool towels.
