A cosy Christmas Eve
We had wonderful days in a fantastic and very traditional toscany country house, nearby the charming medevil village. Our Christmas Eve was very cosy , with the famous wine of Sangiovese and real toscany cooking, in a well-appointed kitchen. All rooms were tastefully furnished, with artwork. The hosts were awesome and so friendly, we had a very good contact and got many tips for the environment, for the fireplace we had enough firewood for a warm and cosy stay. It was a great week and a great experience in winter. We promise to Michael and Brigitte - we will come back in summer, to enjoy the Garden, the plants and the many terraces , thank you for a wonderful Christmas in Montepulciano, we will never forget it.
thank you for your review concerning your stay over Christmas.
We are very thankful that you enjoyed your stay in Aiola, so many other guests have before you; also with regard to the cleanliness, which was criticized by the previous guests.
However, they have had every reason to take that view, since with this "justification" they deliberately failed to provide us the rental share - which was agreed upon in writing - for their daughters, who came to visit (2 x 5 days).
Nota bene: Human behavior is not a question of age. Those tenants had exceeded the youthful age of 80!
Best regards Michael
Bug and insect infested dirty villa
This villa was bug, insect and spider infested. It was very dirty with dust balls under the beds and furniture. Spider webs throughout villa. Mold in bathroom. Electrical outlets not attached to walls. Garbage from previous tenant was in villa. We told Michael we did not want heat but he ignored our request and turned it on and then billed us with no proof of actual charges and when the heat was finally turned off so was the hot water turned off. We left because we had no hot water. Kitchen sink cracked in several areas with a large area repaired with black epoxy cement. This villa should be removed from HomeAway. We have documented all the above with photos.
A very interesting old Tuscan farmhouse with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and Montepulciano.
Old world charm in the Tuscan countryside
The house is a 500 year old stone structure restored to retain its original character., and is situated just outside Montepulciano with sweeping views of the Tuscan countryside. We spent 10 days here and did just minor sightseeing because the property was so mesmerizing that we had little desire to venture elsewhere.
There is plenty of shopping and dining options right nearby - we ate at the Michelin-rated La Grotta ristorante which served us exquisitely prepared food in a beautiful outdoor setting, and also at Ristorante Tre Stelle which served delicious Tuscan fare.
We will never forget our lovely stay at Aiola
The real Tuscany
This is an astonishing authentic Tuscan property. The pictures do not do it justice. The panoramic, pristine (rolling hills, vineyards, olive groves ) are mesmerizing. Peace and quiet in an unspoiled location. A great deal.
Perfect but some things you need to work out ahead of time!
The property is unbelievable. It has been renovated in period so you really feel the Tuscan culture. Because the weather was perfect, we loved being able to sit on the "patio" and enjoy the vista. It is located about a mile outside the walls of Montepulciano making it peaceful and convenient.
In short, you will never find a more beautiful place! Minor criticisms: the owners speak very limited English so it was somewhat difficult to get instructions about the house. It is very difficult to locate! Be sure to have a GPS location before you go. You will not be able to find it on map quest due to confusion about the name of the road. We were surprised that the owner tacked on additional charges for the wood we used and the heating cost. Be sure to ask about this before you make the initial deposit. We were surprised (we are relative newcomers to Home Away) that Home Away had not advised us of this possibility in advance. When I inquired about the additional charge, Home Away folks just said that i should have worked out additional charges ahead of time. Would have been good advice ahead of time!
Dear Mary Jo, dear Roger - your "rating" is perfect … “but some things you need to work out ahead of time!”
We are pleased that you have enjoyed the conclusion of your European visit at the Aiola.
Nevertheless, despite all friendship, please do not overlook the fact that your stated "problems" are on your behalf:
a) On September 8th 2017 we sent you by email several-sided arrival documents, including detailed road maps, that Mary Jo forgot to bring along. So it was no wonder that our house was very difficult for you to find, although it is really very easy to find, being only 1 km from Montepulciano.
b) That you had difficulties with GPS, was due to the fact that you could not operate the navigation program in your AVIS-rental car, just as you - regrettably - could not operate the gearshift of this car, and thus by driving about 50 km from Siena ruined the engine.
c) Furthermore, you have refused to pay the deposit, which was announced to you by your placement agency at the time of booking.
d) You have also refused to pay the heating costs, with the enlightening note that "all over the world" the energy costs (electricity, firewood, fuel oil, gas consumption, etc.) are of course included in the rent – oh felix America!
e) Besides, from our point of view, it is by no means self-evident that everybody in every village “all over the world” should be able to speak English/American.
Apart from that: For about 15 years we lead foreign guests through house and property - in English;
no misunderstanding ever occurred.
Please also keep in mind that in 3 emails we have emphatically asked you to modify or withdraw your 4-star rating for obvious reasons. Our point is, that otherwise we will unnecessarily fall back far behind in the ranking competition. In consequence, the Aiola will online be hard to find.
Up to now you have not responded to our concern, not even a notice.
In order not to be misunderstood: We certainly would accept 4-star ratings, in case that they are reasonably comprehensible, that is, according to the facts.
The medieval town of Montepulciano is situated on a mountain top of tuff stone, 600 m above sea level. Each summer the popular international music festival “Cantiere” which was brought into being by H. W. Henze some years ago, takes place here over a period of two weeks. The Vino Nobile which matures in the wine cellars under the town is at least as famous. One can take a rest from too much bustle in the thermal baths nearby, which are provided with water from a 'sacred mountain', the Monte Amiata, an extinct volcano. You can reach the historical city center from the Aiola in about 30 minutes on foot. It is a beautiful little walk, passing fiels and gardens as well as the cathedral ´San Biagio´which a major building from the Rennaissance period.
