We enjoyed our stay in the Northwoods house in Butternut, Wisconsin very much. The house was stocked with everything we needed for a longer stay, such as preparing meals. Nice big clean refrigerator, large bathroom with excellent light in the day, plenty of towels, washer and dryer, nice shower and comfortable furniture (couch, armchair, dining table and bed). Loved the quaint, quiet and friendly town. Gorgeous area, rich in natural beauty. Loved ice cream shop a short walk from the house. Enjoyed grilling some days and sitting out in front. We will definitely stay again if we get back to northern Wisconsin.
I'll start by saying I've rented through VRBO for many years & I have NEVER encountered a property owner such as this man. I've never left a property anyway other then the way it was found. I rented this property for my partner & my dad, like I've done before. My dad has gone to this area every year for about 20 years now & never had an issue until this time. I'll start by saying for a place to just catch a few hours of sleep & a shower its fine. The flooring was just sub flooring, no laminate, no tile, no carpet, just the sub. Something resembling 2x4 or just extremely unfinished staircase inside. But it has a bed & running water, which is all they needed it for. Most of their time was spent outdoors in the woods hunting or at the local bowling alley. The issues started once they left. The owner called my dad accusing them of breaking the washer & dryer, neither of them used either & then just hung up. Then I receive a message through VRBO. He then tells him that they broke the ceing fan & light switch, completely denies ever telling my dad it was the washer & dryer & it just escalates from there. He sends pictures of the ceiling fan, which shows nothing wrong with it. Im still not sure about the light switches or how they broke those, but I guess maybe an electrical issue, I dont know. But no fault to the renters. Then he bills for $150 to fix whatever he tried to say they broke. Telling 2 people 2 different things in less then 2 hours time. I start getting the suspension that he's a scam & its only going to get worse. Next he needs $300 for the yard because the dogs tore it up & it would need reseeding & whatever else. The thing is the dogs were on a 5ft lead long enough to eat dinner before being put in their box because they're exhausted from running the woods all day. Now did the dig 1 or 2 holes in that small area, yes & it was never denied & as soon as it was noticed they were moved to the driveway & attached to the truck. He called me a liar, said my dogs deserve better. I paid him though bc he clearly was hard up & my partner tried to fix it but the ground was too hard from the cold. Then I thought all was done & he bills me another $25 for a pet fee which should have been added when I checked out & the dogs never entered his house. Says poop wasnt cleaned up, but it was. Maybe a pile or 2 missed but it was definitely picked up. It has been a nightmare dealing with this man. Rent as your own risk!
