A beautiful, charming apartment, very well appointed, in the heart of the rural village of Vallabrix, just a few minutes from the historic town of Uzès, in the Gard Provençal region of southern France.
Ideal for a couple, the apartment can also accommodate a third person or a child (sofa bed in the living area). Superbly equipped kitchen, cozy living area, beautiful bedroom and a bathroom/toilet with stone vaulted ceilings, heated towel rack and washing machine.
Too small to have a bakery, Vallabrix does have a small grocery store, run by a volunteer association and open three times a week, as well as a cafeteria/bar, also run by the same association and open five evenings a week in summer or four lunchtimes a week off-season. Excellent bakeries, butcher shops, supermarkets and restaurants can be found in the neighboring village of Saint-Quentin la Poterie (famous for its superb pottery) and in Uzès (10–15 minutes away). Large markets, selling local produce, are held in Saint-Quentin (Tuesdays and Fridays) and in Uzès (Wednesdays and Saturdays). The cities of Nîmes and Avignon are less than an hour’s drive away and Montpellier less than an hour and a half away.
Vallabrix has retained much of its rural charm. From the apartment, the view of the valley and the hillside quarries shows the region’s honey-colored stone, which looks exquisite in the evening sunlight. Partly garrigue, the lush, rolling local landscape consists of vineyards and olive groves, with some almond, fig and cherry orchards. It is dotted with charming old villages, featuring characteristic stone houses and narrow streets. The air is fresh, the birds plentiful and the night sky endless and star-studded.
The village is a perfect starting point for exploring the historic architecture of Uzès, with its central arcaded square, the Pont du Gard Roman aqueduct, the valleys and gorges of the Cèze and Gardon rivers and the wild garrigue of the region. The area is ideal for biking and hiking. Bikes can be stored in our garage, next to the apartment.
One thing: mobile phone networks don't work that well inside the apartment - often you have to step outside to talk!
