About this property
Mountain lodge w/creekside sauna and patio w/ fire pit - Casinos nearby!
Welcome to Ellsworth Creek Lodge!
Nestled off the beaten path between Black Hawk and Nederland at 8,300 feet elevation, Ellsworth Creek Lodge is your basecamp for miles of Jeep trails, hiking, biking, skiing, and snow shoeing... or just relaxing in the cabin sauna or around the creekside fire pit.
We are also just 15 minutes from over 25 casinos in the historic towns of Black Hawk and Central City!
No matter your reason for visiting, this rustically modern log home will provide the perfect ambiance for your Rocky Mountain getaway!
Ellsworth Creek Lodge is a modernized log home that retained its Rocky Mountain character and charm through its stone and wood finishes, historic mountain decor, and vintage wood stove. Its huge main level windows bring the mountain's natural beauty indoors, though enjoying that beauty from the wrap-around covered deck is even better.
The living room and the master bedroom are each equipped with a 50-inch TV with DVD/Blueray player that have access to Netflix, Youtube, Vudu and other internet channels.
Dining seating for up to 10 at the dining table and kitchen counter.
The house naturally stays cool (65-75 degrees ) even on the hottest summer days. You will not miss air conditioning.
Coffee, tea, sugar, dry cereal, and oatmeal are provided.
No need to mess with keys as you will have your own access code for the front door.
******Separate Guest Suite******* The property includes a separate lower level guest suite that may be occupied by other guests. If interested in booking both listings together (4 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, sleeps 10), please check out our "Rocky Mountain Retreat" listing.
The main Lodge has its own deck, BBQ, and a private entrance. There is no interior access between the main Lodge and the Guest Suite.
Floors were insulated and sound-dampening underlayment was installed under the wood floors to minimize sound transmission from the guest suite, but you may still hear hear occasional noise.
The wood floors and HVAC ducts conduct noise downstairs. We ask that guests strive to keep noise levels down when the guest suite is occupied. Removing your shoes at the door helps considerably.
The guest suite does not share any space with the main home as it has it's own kitchen, bath, laundry, patio, BBQ, and entrance.
***Phone and Internet*** Not many cell services work in Gilpin County except AT&T. However, onsite WiFi allows for WiFi calling from most phones.
The home's internet is a 38 Mbps DSL land-line service through Century Link. Service interruptions are very rare as there are no dishes, satellites, cell towers, or portable WiFi devices to worry about. The router is on a battery backup so you should have internet service even in the event of a power outage, which is also very rare.
The property does not have land-line phone service.
***Neighborhood*** This neighborhood of about a dozen homes is nestled in the bottom of a valley just below Peak to Peak Highway 119. Surrounded by trees and the Roosevelt National Forest, it's sheltered from much of the wind that folks higher up the mountain have to deal with.
Forrest and mountain-side views are all around the property. The adjacent neighbor's property includes a scenic pond that feeds Ellsworth Creek.
Ellsworth Creek runs through the back yard of the property. Typical of mountain streams, water flow can be low in late summer and fall.
Two neighboring homes are visible from this property. Peak to Peak Highway 119 is also visible from the back yard half way up the mountain side.
Conveniently located close, but not too close, to everything the Rocky Mountains have to offer:
1.0 miles - Ellsworth Gulch Road Trailhead - jeep, hiking, and biking trails 2.1 miles - Town of Rollinsville 2.2 miles - Last Shot Restaurant 2.3 miles - Mid County Liquor Store 4.8 miles - Golden Gate Canyon State Park 6 miles - Town of Nederland (groceries, food, brew pubs, shopping) 7 miles - Eldora Ski Resort 12 miles - Black Hawk and Central City (over 25 casinos, restaurants, historic scenery) 23 miles - Boulder 25 miles - Idaho Springs (rafting, zip lining, hot springs) 26 miles -Golden 33 miles - Red Rocks Amphitheatre 35 miles - Rocky Mountain National Park 45 miles - Denver (Denver Int'l Airport - 61 miles) 49 miles - Loveland Ski Resort 52 miles - Estes park 56 miles - Arapahoe Basin Ski Resort 58 miles - Winter Park Ski Resort 59 miles - Silverthorne (factory outlet stores) 69 miles - Keystone Ski Resort 73 miles - Breckenridge Ski Resort 742 miles - Las Vegas (I'd just go to Black Hawk)

Nice place... a friend of mine and our sons made a quick trip out for a ski trip on Eldora mountain. The place was as-described, and the hosts were excellent communicators. We would have no issue booking this place again in the future.
Everything about this property is amazing…great location, amenities, decor, and owners who provided great local information. Comfort, beauty, and great location! Enjoyed watching the moose grazing in river at night and early in the morning. A little slice of heaven right here in Colorado!!
Perfect for our reunion! We had a wonderful stay ! The photos don’t do this cozy and beautiful cabin justice . It had everything we needed. We loved starting our day in the garden and ending our days in front of the fire.
My daughter and I came out for Christmas and snowboarding at El Doro. This home was the best. Great host, very clean and cost (wood stove). The host thought of everything! All the details. It felt like a home not a house. Can’t wait to come back
Our experience was great, the Cabin was lovely and very clean, the beds were comfy and the cabin had everything we needed. The communication with the Host was great as well, answered every question we had and responded quickly. The host provided some sleds which my family took full advantage of and had a great time sledding outside. Small town of Nederland was close by and we were able to grab a bit and also pick up groceries. Definitely will book again if I am ever in town.
I wanted a place to stay in the mountains within easy distance to the Loveland Ski area, this was about an hour away, but it was perfect for us. My hubby stayed in the comfy cabin while the kids and I went skiing. The kids definitely want to stay when it is nicer so we can enjoy the outside. We did try the sauna, it was amazing. The housr had so many little thoughtful touches. We loved the woodburning stove.
Our stay at the Rocky Mountain lodge was one of my all time best VRBO experiences. THANK YOU for having plenty of things to nibble in the kitchen. I came in by myself, and I'm not going to lie, the drive up the mountain was somewhat nerve-wracking, but the fact that there were oatmeal, cereal bars, tea and coffee meant that I was able to eat when I arrived late, and that was EVERYTHING. We loved the area, and had daily visits from Millie the Moose as well as some of her friends. Communication with the homeowners was easy, breezy, and oh so quick - I SO appreciated their quick replies to any questions I had. Gorgeous views outside, beautifully-appointed and comfortable furnishings inside, and I would 100% bring my family back to stay here again. Thank you for everything - ya'll rock!!
The house was absolutely perfect! The location was a 45 minute drive to RMNP and Estes Park, 4.9 miles to Nederland and 6 miles from downtown Black Hawke. The kitchen was well stocked and the owners had samples of hemp products, deodorant, chocolates, hard seltzers, CBD body wash/face lotion/face mask, coffee and filters. The view was lovely and check in and check out was so easy! We loved our stay at this amazing property.
