Quaint Glamping Cottage on Private Island, Sandy Beach with Freshwater Pool!

Glamping on a small private island with panoramic views of the turquoise waters of the Atlantic Ocean and your own sandy beach (a rarity in the Keys) is a special experience for fishermen, bird watchers, and nature lovers.

Glamping means different things to different people – from a nice tent in the woods with a shared bathroom to a an canvas palace in Africa. Our Floridian definition is a whitewashed cabin perched on a high platform with some pink, blue or green accents, an outdoor shower, and a couple of simple private indoor bathrooms and a basic kitchen. Being Florida, we of course need air conditioning. But what sets us apart is the location in the uncrowded middle Keys, the nature, and yes… that turquoise water in every direction.

Our island is a unique paradise, surrounded by swimmable ocean, fishing spots, and a nature walk along our peninsula that juts out further into the ocean and leads to a dolphin pool (former home to Flipper!) Our island is separated from the Overseas Highway by a private causeway, offering an exclusive experience. We have kayaks and paddle boards for you to explore the calm reef-protected waters surrounding the island. You will also have a fresh-water swimming pool, a boat basin, and a boat launch.

Our Little Conch Island is not just a secluded paradise, but also conveniently located. It's a short distance from the Marathon Airport, the Dolphin Research Center, a water skiing facility, and the numerous restaurants, grocery stores, and gift shops between Marathon and Islamorada. A bike path is just over our causeway, the 7-mile Bridge is 20 minutes away, and Key West is just over an hour away.

The Florida Keys is a magical place with some of the best fishing, boating, and reef diving anywhere in the world. The glamping cabins of Little Conch Key are the perfect place from which to explore – being near everything you would want, yet a world away.

We did not receive an entry code until the second day, We were able to get in through one of doors that could not lock. No doors could be locked except for the keyed entry door. we felt insecure. My wife and I spent over 2 hours cleaning the place as it was poorly clean including nt swept at all. Bathroom were terrible. There was not a TV until the second day. This rental is in need of serious upgrades. Antonio offered a refund and as of today we received nothing. VRBO should be inspecting rentals if they want repeat business.

The weather took a turn cold and the heater in the house didn't work. Called the contact and he didn't return my calls. Called again the next day when the temperature turned hot and the inside of our unit was 84 deg. He said he would have someone out to fix. No one ever came. The location was fabulous. Beach not swimable but nice to look at. The picture of brand new kyacks and life vest was not true at all. Vests were worn to the point where they were barely usable. The paddle board was missing the fin and contact person said he would get a replacement. Never came. The day we arrived, we were told the washer and dryer don't work.The place is for sale and I have a feeling the current owners don't want to sink any into it.

I will try to keep this short. We stayed 5 nights. There were rats in the cottage. We stayed in the cottage closest to the pool.The pros: The area is beautiful, water was clear and shallow at the beach, we went out in the kayak (had our own with). Boat dock was nice, worked well for docking the boat and fishing from.The cons: Rats. Everything is in a state of disrepair. The pavillion is not safe. The lighting from boat dock to the cottage is non-existant as is outside lighting at the cottage. There were rats. Inside our cottage. We were refunded one night which would have been okay for not getting the code to get in and not being able to get in the cottage for an hour and a half, not having a working washer or dryer still, trouble opening the doors, the deck unusable due to the wood rotting (some new boards which we were able to use to hang our headlamps for some lighting), the kitchen outlets not working, the internet going out making it hard to work or watch the Olympics, ferns growing in the outside shower, the cottage being dirty, but not for having rats inside. We were told when we finally got ahold of the host to check in (thank you to vrbo for getting ahold of him and connecting us because he wouldn't answer my texts or calls) there "might be, might be, a mouse" they could set traps for but they didn't get us any until the 4th night and then gave us one old rat trap which was ineffective, more a toy for the rats to play with and get the peanut butter off.

I hate to give negative reviews. This house has great potential. The house needs a lot of work by qualified repair company. I saw the attempt of repairs, but it was very poor. They replaced a few deck boards, but my heel still stepped through a board. They attempted to paint but did not tape off anything. The exterior doors don't open or close without force. The toilet repair was completed but never finished. There is exposed plywood around the toilet without any tile (not sure how to clean plywood). We had to search the property to find patio chairs that have not been blown out. The need for external lights is needed. It is a safety hazard when going down the stairs at night. Speaking of safety hazards there are exposed wires in J-boxes and light poles around the property. The best thing about this property is the beach, pool and location. The host was attentive. He showed up when we asked for trash removal because the birds were scattering the garbage. He also brought us more towels because the advertised wash facilities were not working. That is why it got the 2 star.

Natural beauty and seclusion

This old Florida style home, with balcony facing the beach, where the kayaks are already sitting waiting for you, and the pool awaits, and the dock and outdoor-living hut is positioned available for you to use the grill and take a seat right on the water to watch the sun go down... all situated on a private island at the end of a picturesque shell driveway makes this location feel like a true Floridian paradise. The Sky was so clear and we were so far away from neighborhood lights, that it seemed the stars would twinkle all the way down to the horizon backed by the red lights behind you for the turtles to be safe. Old Florida charm for those who love the outdoors.

Nice place

We stayed there 6 nights and had the whole property to ourselfs for the first 2 nights. Great location as it was only about a 5 minute drive into Marathon, 20 minute drive to Islamorada, and a little under an hour to Key West. Nice pool, nice little private beach area, and boat ramp/dock. The house was older and needs a little tlc but all in all it was clean and everything worked as it should and had everything we needed except toilet paper. We had a great time staying there and would definately stay there again.

Florida Keys Getaway

Location of property is great it has its on little beach a private dock and boat ramp. There’s a Pavilion also overlooking the Ocean with tables and chairs. The Cottage needs some work the Shower in the Master Bedroom had no Hot water and very little water pressure. The other Bathroom is kind of small for everyone to use. Most of the time we had to use the outdoor shower. The WiFi only worked occasionally which prevented the TV from working. The trash never got picked up while we were there. It has the potential of being a great vacation spot it just needs some work. I just wanted to add it does have a nice private pool. Thanks

Location, Location, Location

While the house is in need of a few cosmetic updates, it was clean and comfortable. The kayaks are all in need of repair, but we didn't use them much anyway. The island itself...totally worth it. Little Conch island is beautiful, quiet and very biologically diverse. We were lucky enough to have the island to ourselves for a few days and it was Paradise. If you're a lover of nature and peaceful quiet, this is the place.

So Relaxing!!

With the hustle and bustle of the Keys it was wonderful to pull into this private feeling Island. It was so quite and relaxing sitting on the porch watching the waves and all the birds. House was exactly as listed. You can tell they are doing renovations to update the home. It was a very nice home to stay in for our trip to the Keys. I would recommend this home for anyone wanting to avoid the city and have a piece of nature to yourself.

The location was great as were the water amenities. The view and the location were great. The house left a little to be desired. We had roaches and ants on different occasions. And the maintenance needs upgrades, the hall bathroom floor sags and the deck boards are a trip hazard.

Peace and tranquility

There are three older cottages and two larger newer houses that share a private beach. The location is about a 15 minute drive from Marathon. Kayaks were available. We were able to pretty much have the beach to ourselves the first day there. Weather was great. We were an hour twenty from Key West. So we drove down and did our sight seeing. The owners were very responsive. We would definitely book again!

Island getaway

This property was just as listed and expected. The owner was extremely responsive and timely with all communication. The location is great as it’s a midpoint between the keys. The beach area was great for the kids to play on the sand and wade in the water. We also took advantage of the kayaks and paddleboards, it was great that life vests were available for the kids. The pool was perfectly refreshing. The kitchen was furnished with plenty of utensils/dishes/silverware and even coffee! There were enough soaps/shampoo for our 3 night stay. Check-in and out couldn’t be easier

Location is a 5 out of 5. Inside of unit is another story. Pros... the deck and living room faces the beach and water for excellent views. Cons...The kitchen is a 3 out of 5. No light bulbs in the refrigerator. Wall behind trash can is nasty. The master shower leaks down to the ground while taking a shower. The 2nd shower does not work at all. Will not turn off, leaked the whole time. Our whole group had to use the master shower. The master bed had no top sheet at all. We purchased a king sheet set for our use while there. The bottom of the house was visible of course, it looks like the showers have been leaking for a long time and both bathroom floors are bulging. Would I go back. No. We paid alot of money for the 4 nights and they required us to purchase damage insurance in order to stay. Ironic, considering how lacking the maintenance is at this location.

This is the best possible location.Very quiet; very beachy with no real distractions. Three homes are on this little sand bar immediately off of the Overseas Hwy. The home itself is not terribly impressive, but that was not why we were there. One of the showers would not work for us, but we were assured that we just had not pulled it hard enough in the wrong direction to get it to work. There are no real flush fittings in the house, but it has the comfortable feel of an old Florida beach house that will be in a constant state of wear-and-tear. Except that the pull-out futon was not comfortable at all. If I was going to stay longer, we would have probably invested in an air mattress.

Quaint cottage

This property was really run down. The deck was rotted. Definitely needed flip flops on it. The dishwasher didn’t clean so we washed by hand. The grill is an old fashioned brickett one. We had cockroaches and a rat in the house. Kayaks were older. One had no plugs and oars were broken. On request he had two others brought in. On the upside, it was freshly painted inside and bedrooms were comfortable. Nice hot showers. And location was great. Ocean front Host was great and checkin and out was painless.

Needs to Get Better

We wouldn’t be able to stay again. These would be our must haves… sun blocking window treatments, morning sun made it unbearable. Need a bedroom TV, need dresser or shelves in bedroom/closet for clothes, need some bathroom storage/shelves, need a light under unit to BBQ. It would also be nice if the place was a bit more cared for… pool was not well cared for. Under units and beach are very cluttered. We have a long history of staying at Conch Key Cottages. We feel terrible we can no longer feel comfortable there.

Looked great in pics, toilets plugged, no hot shower in 2nd bathroom, 2 huge cockroaches cause the doors wouldnt close rite and wouldnt lock, stairs unsafe, no porch light and husband fell going down stairs at night, pool was green when we arrived, pool side had no umbrella, private beach was trashed out. Only thing that worked rite was the air conditioning thankfully Was not worth what I paid!!

Terribly disappointed and could not stay there

Property has never recovered from the hurricanes. Main door would not lock at all. Decking falling apart. Bathroom floor was a piece of plywood. Deck door safety exit would not open at all. Nothing like it used to be years ago. Critters in the ceiling. Not safe or secure. We left the first morning to find safe snd secure. owner refunded remaining days. Dark and desolate at night. Only security a rope on the driveway. Linens soiled so had to sleep on covers. Not luxorous or glamorous. Nothing like it advertised to be. This is first bad review we have ever made. Owner polite but does not live local and place terribly run down. We stayed there years ago but storms have made it such that really bad now. Only other unit occupied were people leaving too in AM
