About kathryn Schilling Oakes
Hello! We are the Schilling family and we have owned our house at Rodes Farm since 1977 . Our father, Fritz, was born and raised in Nelson County and enjoyed being a Wintergreen homeowner for many years and now we respectfully and graciously, continue to own and love this special family home. I, Kathryn Schilling Oakes will be happy to answer any questions you may have and would love to be able to accommodate you in this beautiful area of Virginia.

Why kathryn Schilling Oakes chose Nellysford
The history of our rental home is probably a unique one......this was my grandad’s house. He moved in after selling his much larger home a few miles down the road. Fred was here when Wintergreen's valley area was first beginning. Those were the days where the historical brick home on the hill was 'Marguerite's Inn' serving the most delicious meals around! My dad was one of the many characters and 'staples' of this community in those days. I,myself, grew up in the house a few miles down the road; therefore, this valley is most definitely 'home' to me and means a great deal to my family. We have so much fun here relaxing, going to the Sat. market, swimming, playing tennis, hiking, wine tasting, and my granddaughter even learned how to ski here!
What makes this House unique
One of our favorite things to do while here is just sitting on the back screen porch in the late afternoon with some wine and conversation. You have a gorgeous view of the barn, mountains, trees, and an occasional deer. You may even see some of the excellent horseback riding staff walking the horses back to one of the many pastures.......we love seeing the horses!

I looked for a long time to find the perfect house to stay in. I am very glad we chose this house. It had a community pool that was perfect an within walking distance. I knew when i booked the house there was no grill there but was pleasantly surprised that there was one to use at the pool. Kathy communicated with me and gave me lots of local details of lakes to visit and other things my family may enjoy. We had a great time and would def. stay again if we are ever in the area!
Jessica, thanks so much for your review! I’m very happy that you and your family enjoyed your stay!! Please let me know if you’re ever back in the area and need the house, we’d love to have you again! Kath
Multiple Great Visits
I have stayed at this place multiple times, and each time, I grow to love my stay more than the time before. The place is comfortable, clean and in a great location. The family is also flexible and wonderful to work with!
Wonderful Weekend Spot
This is my fifith stay at this place. I love it!!!
Great host, perfect accommodations at a reasonable price
Host was quick to respond and accommodated a request for early check in. Well stocked with board games, wood stove, and almost everything needed for a vacation. Location is perfect for going snowboarding at wintergreen. Only complaint is the path leading to the house should be gravel or wooden steps. Right now it’s brown mulch and coupled with the rain it made impossible to walk to the house without dragging mud inside and getting your shoes covered
We had a very pleasant experience. The house was very clean and all amenities were available.
Very well kept house. Owner was very responsive to any questions we had. She sent the house keeper over to help us out with adjusting the heat to our liking. She also suggested activities that we could do while we were staying there. It was fun and would stay there again.
Comfortable and convenient
Great little house and very comfortable would stay again.Hostess friendly and accommodating easy to reach . No problems
There are many fantastic breweries and wineries in area.....we love The Blue Mt. Brewery, Devil's Backbone and Veritas vineyards. If you have time, Monticello(home of Thomas Jefferson) is only about 25mins away.... really beautiful!! skiing and tubing are great at Wintergreen ski resort! and I, personally, love The Basic Necessities restaurant for wonderful southern French food! the rest of the time we love just 'hanging out' at the house....so peaceful!
