About this property

In town Lewes - a block from historic downtown with water views!

Perfectly situated on the Canal Front Park and the Lewes/Rehoboth canal! Pleasure boats, fishing boats, water taxis, and the Overfalls Lightship will excite your nautical desires and can be seen from any room on the front of the house and of course, from the Adirondack chairs on the front porch! Grab coffee and watch them start their early mornings, or a glass of wine and watch them return from their day at sea. And, if your timing is right you will be able to watch the ospreys in their nest high above the water's edge, often flying about for food.

Open our front door to the beautiful Canal Front park which offers a waterfront setting that includes docks for walking along the canal, fishing, crabbing, seasonal outdoor movies, music, craft festivals, a playground, baseball fields, tennis/pickleball courts, a basketball court, a kayak launch, a place for a picnic, frisbee and many other activities free to the public.

Walk inland from our home one block to the quaint shops, many excellent dining options, our local Lewes bakery/coffee shop, toy store, ice cream parlor and Historical Society. Lewes has an amazing atmosphere, it's sunny, beachy, safe, clean, romantic, great for foodies and has a little something for everyone.

From our home you will have amazing fun in the sun and when the sun goes down you can walk to everything!!! We feel sure you will enjoy our location, location, location!

As for our beaches, you have many options. Closest is Lewes Beach (3/4 mile) - sidewalks allow for you to walk it easily or even bike it. Lewes Beach is on the Delaware Bay so more calm than the ocean which you can enjoy at the Cape Henlopen State Park. Lewes Beach is perfect for families with younger/older ones who worry about getting knocked over with waves. Cape Henlopen State Park is approximately 3 miles from our home, its beautiful beaches with fun waves to jump and awesome bike trails you can even take to the Rehoboth boardwalk. You can pick your beach preference or try them both during your stay.

We are also directly down the street from a public boat ramp that leads right out to the Delaware Bay and Atlantic Ocean.

Our family has long enjoyed all that historic downtown Lewes and its beaches has to offer. We have lived here in town for many years and three years ago bought our dream home. It took our breath away to be able to purchase and renovate this home. It was like an HGTV moment when we were given a sledge hammer to open the wall to see if the old fireplace was there behind it (it was)! During our renovation, Craftsman Tools even came and filmed a commercial here! We are now excited to share our home.

We have traced the history of our home back to 1849 but have been told it goes back much further. Rumor has it, our home was called the “Stage Coach Inn” back in the day; you will see the historical carriage house when you pull in the driveway that had stables in it until recent years. We were told by the previous owners that is where the horses were fed, overnighted, etc. with the carriage pulled right into the driveway area. We have a historical carriage house on our property for you to store your water toys and the driveway is large enough to bring your boat and park.

In addition to location, here are some things we are pleased to offer:

• Sleeping for 8 in 5 bedrooms with 4 bathrooms
• A kitchen upstairs and another downstairs which is great for multiple families, a break from one another if needed and or just some quiet time to enjoy early coffee before everyone else is up - general pantry items/spices available.
• Keurig coffee pots in both kitchens
• Washer and dryer
• Parking for 4 in the driveway, on-street parking for compact out front and additional public parking across the street
• The first floor of our carriage house is available for you to store your kayaks, bikes, beach stuff
• There are two bikes for your use; some games in case of a rainy day
• Various beach chairs/toys are available to you (please wash them off with the outside hose when you are done with them)
• Various balls for the courts/fields across the street will be on hand
• Two different work stations (5G) for any who have to take a zoom call or work a day while here
• An amazing outdoor shower that brings nature right to you
• We put up a clothes line because we like to dry our beach towels and bathing suits in the sun after our beach day
• We are leaving our baby grand piano to enjoy for any who play the piano
• A Weber gas grill is available
• We live locally so quick support is available for questions/concerns

We do ask that you:

• Not smoke in our home
• Not sneak pets in
• Help keep sand out – two levels of our home are hardwood floors
• Leave shoes outside whenever possible – when we stay here we go shoeless
• No wet bathing suits on the furniture
• No parties – we love our neighbors and hope they love us back (and continue to)
• Keep the house/carriage house locked when you are gone

We love our home and enjoy time in it also. Thank you for treating it kindly while you are here.

We look forward to welcoming you!

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Charming home in a charming town
This was our family's third stay in Lewes, DE, and our first two visits were to a beachfront home on Bay Avenue. To quote my husband, this visit to this home was a "game changer" for our family in understanding and appreciating the full value of a vacation stay in this charming town. This property was far larger than our family of four needed, but the wide open spaces and extra bedrooms became fun places for our elementary-aged kids to explore and pretend in. We agreed that our next stay would certainly accommodate 1-2 additional families staying with us. The spaces on the front of the house do have some audible sound from the park across the street and occasional loud vehicles but nothing we're not accustomed to living in a suburban area. And the access to those recreation areas - baseball field, tennis/pickleball courts, playground and weekly outdoor concert venue felt like far more of a "plus" for the property than any kind of "minus." The house was incredibly well-appointed and we felt spoiled with an embarrassment of riches compared to our usual prospects in renting beach homes in coastal NC. The kitchen was well stocked with spices, oils and condiments we didn't have to buy; there were plenty of cleaning and paper products to keep things tidy; there were even shower toiletries available in every bathroom - including the outdoor shower. Beach and bath towels provided. The appliances were all in great working order, three-zone HVAC kept us comfortable during warm days and cooler evenings. All of this added up to a very comfortable, easy and convenient stay for us. The master bedroom on the back side of the house was quiet and the bed itself probably the most comfortable we've ever slept in away from home. Definitely stood out as did the two closets in the room - including a huge walk-in closet (not pictured in the listing, that I recall) - and plenty of USB ports for charging our family's many devices. The outdoor space was as lovely as any garden we saw when walking the historic streets of downtown Lewes. Space to lounge, grill, dine and play. Finally, Sean and Brittany were gracious hosts and we even had a brief visit with Sean as we were leaving the property. They were so friendly, so helpful and happy to share recommendations for where to go and what to see. We would highly recommend this property and look forward to an occasion to visit again and share it with friends and family in the future!

BEAUTIFUL home away from home
Great house for multiple families vacationing together. It has a full kitchen upstairs and downstairs with a master bedroom, additional bedrooms, living rooms and eating areAs on both floors. Plus a cool attic ‘kids room’ to pile any kids. The house is gorgeous and extremely thoughtfully stocked and set up for renters. Every time I thought ‘oh I wish I had….’ I turned around and easily found it. Plenty of towels and supplies and everything you could possibly need. The beds and pillow were extremely comfortable. The back yard is a beautiful garden oasis with tons of hooks and a drying line to dry your beach things. We enjoyed a huge yummy cucumber from their garden. The owner was considerate and helpful with great communication. The house was right next to town (but always very quiet inside) and close to the bay. Overall you can feel how much the owners love and care for the house and it makes you feel the same way when you are staying there. It’s a wonderful home away from home and a great place for a family vacation. We loved it. Thank you.

Lewes Getaway
Our original rental cancelled on us with only 10 days notice which was stressful to say the least. Sean & Brittany were easily contacted & responsive when we scrambling to save our vacation. Pictures do no do this house justice. It has 2 fully equipped kitchens that made eating in easy for us. The second floor kitchen & living area became our nightly gathering spot. Linens & beach items were as promised. The location is ideal for walking into town for dinner, shopping etc. We throughly enjoyed our stay & would highly recommend this property!

A quick little bit about our family so you know who you’d be renting from. We are parents of a 7-year old (with two grown up kids also). We have been VRBO hosts in the past (at Primehook Beach) where we achieved 5 stars, so when we decided to sell, a VRBO renter wanted the home immediately. We love doing anything outdoors, home renovation projects, boating, beaching and simply enjoying family time together. One of us is a local realtor, another is a federal servant and the littlest one is in 1st grade.
