About this property

Holiday house Morschach for 6 - 8 persons with 4 bedrooms - Farmhouse

ED Ref. 2243962

Holidays in the monument combines heritage preservation and tourism. Historically valuable construction tools are taken over, gently renovated and rented as holiday apartments. The model makes a double profit: the monuments get a new future and the holidaymakers experience a stay in an extraordinary building. The idea is realized by the foundation Ferien im Baudenkmal (FiB), which was founded in 2005 by the Swiss Heritage Society.

Parking: The public parking is about 50m from the house (next to the neighboring house). The parking is free and not covered.  The road from Morschach to the hamlet of Tannen is sometimes narrow and at the end the road is led along the trail "Path of Switzerland". The luggage or purchases can be unloaded in front of the house.

Public transport: By public transport can be driven to Morschach. From there you have to walk for about 45 minutes.

Number of persons 8: There is a cot (up to 2 years) available. The house sleeps eight guests (plus baby). There are also two beds in two double rooms, one bed in two single rooms and a sofa bed for two persons. The floors are made of wood and stone which is why we recommend good slippers.

Garden: West side is a seat with furniture. There are two sun loungers available.

WLAN: In the house you have no WLAN connection.

Open: The house can be rented from April to October.

Pets: Pets are allowed. In the canton of Schwyz, there is a lot of linen for dogs. We ask you to pay attention to this.

Altitude: 800 meters above sea level.

Haus Tannen - medieval, Schwyzer Holzbau
The house Tannen is a two-storey block building and was built on a stone pedestal. The building, with its stately, rectangular form, is part of the formative, identity-creating appearance of the central Swiss cultural landscape. For more than 800 years, the external form as well as the inner spatial structure have changed only insignificantly. The batch construction in a kind of modular and Bauklotzsystem is an essential construction principle of late medieval block buildings. Each floor, so to speak, forms its own quarter, which is covered by planks, which for two days protrude above the edges of the square - a kind of box with a lid. On this newly created level then the next square is set. Complemented by contemporary furniture and the new kitchen and sanitary facilities, this results in a fascinating mix of old and new.

History & Information
The old "fir-house", which according to legend was built around the year 1290 and later (around 1341) by Riemenstalden, was said to have been moved to this place in the fir trees, has a turbulent history behind it. Since Sisikon, Flüelen, Altdorf and the Gotthard Pass, before the construction of the Axenstrasse from Schwyz, could only be reached by sea or on foot and with mule animals over the Schyzerhöhe, or over steep paths through the Ingenbohl forest to the Axenstein, this old one came Connection great importance. Tannen, then called "Matten" and later "Tannmatt", was in a good position on this old mule track. Based on scientific research, it is believed that the old Tannenhaus also served as a hostel and inn for travelers to Uri and Gotthard.

renovation
The renovation of the house firs was highly sensitive and carefully made. Not only the structure was preserved, but as far as possible all the historic wooden floors and exterior wall coverings of a next generation are given. All interventions affecting comfort were not registered in the main building of 1341, but are situated one above the other in the northwest corner. On the living floor the storeroom and on the sleeping level the central southern bedroom with visible new massive wood stains are reconstructed. The north-facing Gibelwand is reinforced with spruce woods on the outside and covered with a simple slip-on formwork. Similarly, the southwestern Gwättiecke. A modern kitchen and the bathroom provide a comfort adapted to today's conditions. The kitchen is fully equipped incl. Oven. The interior design, which was designed by the interior designer Daniela Aeberli of Aeberli Vega Zanghi architects from Zurich, consists of contemporary furniture by Swiss designers and producers. There is a radio but no TV, telephone or internet connection.

IMPORTANT SUPPLEMENT
The house Tannen is a monument that has been renovated with great respect for the existing substance. The tenant is aware of this and meets the object with care. Although technically state-of-the-art, certain functional details do not correspond to common standards today and harbor a potential source of danger. In particular, it should be noted here on the ground for centuries in the dining room and the slope of the house. The ceiling height in the room is only 1. 88 m. Similarly, a steep wooden staircase leads to the upper floor. These circumstances are known to the tenant. The Foundation Ferien im Baudenkmal and e-domizil disclaim all liability.
