About Alexander Madrak
We bought Brando's Bunkhouse at the height of the pandemic. It has been our magical escape and an on-going project for us since the day we received the keys. We live in Washington, DC, but we try to spend as much time as possible with our dog, Brando, and all our friends at the cabin. It’s the perfect getaway — not too far, but not too close. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
Why Alexander Madrak chose Lost River
Situated on over seven acres, you can let the dogs run free, play in the river, go fishing, have a camp fire, and never leave the property (but you should for all of the exploring!). It's only two hours from the DC area but a world away. When you look out the many windows or stand on the large deck, there's a good chance you will turn to the person around you and say: "Wow this place is awesome!" With the bright green moss dotting the hills, the sound of water floating between the rocks, and the river views just down the hill, it is everything you could want when spending some time nestled in the mountain woods.
What makes this House unique
When should you come? Pick your season! Summer allows for hiking, playing in the river, long walks in the woods and an escape from the humidity. Plan on BBQing on our expansive deck, followed by s’mores at the fire pit. There are plenty of hikes within minutes, you can just explore around our property. Check out Trout Pond or Warden Lake. Definitely try to book a tubing or kayaking trip on the Trough River - it's beautiful and one of our favorite ways to spend a day with friends floating down the river. Don't forget a cooler and drinks! Fall: The brisk air and changing leaves make it the perfect time to visit. You can hike during the day, then grab a blanket and enjoy a nice bonfire with friends in the evening. Our favorite fall hike is Chimney Top. Checkout the Wardensville Garden Market for fresh vegetables, pies, and delicious treats. Winter: If you're lucky enough to have snow, prepare to be wowed! The pine trees and hills will be covered, while the river flows around the snow covered rocks. Get in the mood for board games and warm drinks while sitting by the wood stove. Don't forget to check out the Lost River Trading Post for unique antiques, breakfast sandwiches, and great coffee! Spring: The leaves are starting to bloom, the air is still cool, and the hiking trails are open! Let the dogs run, go for a hike at Dolly Sods, and be sure to check out the shops and galleries in nearby Thomas & Davis.
