About this property

Deer rut at the Cabane des Évadés.

Experience the Stag's Brame in total immersion at La Cabane des Évadés
Located at the Col de Portet-d'Aspet, at the south-eastern end of the Comminges Barousse Pyrénées PNR, the hut offers you the opportunity to experience this magical and grandiose show as closely as possible in a private room.
Every year, from mid-September and for a month, the deer take over the meadow just below the house. As soon as the sun falls and all night long, they make their powerful roars resonate to intimidate their rivals and seduce the hinds.
True enthusiasts, we will have the pleasure of passing on our field experience and sharing with you the secrets of observing the large deer.PGJyPgOur terrace overlooking the area is a privileged observation post of this "rutting place". Sit comfortably and discreetly behind a camouflage net to listen to them and catch a glimpse of them. We will be at your side to guide you and comment on the scene live with our infrared camera.
The spectacle is striking: for the past two years, a magnificent 12-horned stag has reigned supreme here over his herd of 15 hinds.
For your accommodation, the house consists of an old historic sheepfold, dating from 1866 with its slate floor and large fireplace. It communicates with a part rebuilt in the style of a mountain chalet.
We will share with you the kitchen located on the ground floor of the old part. It is fully equipped: pyrolysis oven, large fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, everything you need for mountain evenings (fondue and raclette sets, cast iron casserole, plancha, BBQ). Processors as well as classic and Nespresso coffee makers are also available.
Here you can prepare breakfasts and other meals for your stay. There are also many restaurants nearby.
We keep the floor above the kitchen.
You will have the entire chalet area, which has its own front door. The living room is organised in two half-levels with a central stove, a dining area with a large table, and a cosy living room equipped with a connected TV and two sofas (one of which is convertible).
This room is overlooked by two bedrooms on the mezzanine that can be concealed, each with a 140 cm bed and storage furniture.
For young parents, there is a baby cot and all the necessary equipment.
Your beds will be prepared with care. Linen, sheets and towels are included.
You will have a bathroom equipped with a washing machine and a separate toilet.
The house is connected to fibre (high-speed Wifi), ideal for teleworking or streaming.
Access is by car via a private road suitable for vehicles 200 m from the top of the Col de Portet-d'Aspet.
While waiting for the listening evenings where we will explain the behaviour of deer, with photos and films, we can also offer you several other activities.
From the house, you can hike to the Puech, the Col des Voyageurs, the Pic de Paloumère, the Cornudère ridge, the Piéjau hut, the Calabasse peak, etc.
We leave Mölkky, petanque and board games as well as reading and IGN maps available.
Nearby: On the Ariège side: the charming village of Portet-d'Aspet, then the Couserans, Saint-Lary, the Bellongue valley, Castillon, the lake of Bethmale, Saint-Girons, Saint-Dizier... Haute-Garonne side: the Comminges, the Col de Menté, the Pic de Cagire, the Spanish border, the Col des Ares, Aspet, Saint-Gaudens, Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges.

Merci Alain. Nous avons été ravis de vous recevoir, de vous accompagner dans l’observation. Dommage que le brame tarde cette année. Nous espérons vraiment vous revoir.
