There are many good reasons to spend your next vacation in Kassel. Thanks to its central location, the documenta city can be reached quickly from all directions. There is also an excellent infrastructure.
A wide range of cultural and leisure activities also offers the best prerequisites for unique supporting programs from the UNESCO World Heritage Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe with the Baroque water features to a multi-layered museum landscape and the legacy of the world-famous Brothers Grimm, who have left their mark in the city and region.
Last but not least, Kassel is a lively and vibrant university city, which also has a lot to offer as a shopping destination. The region around Kassel also awaits you with a forested and, in the truest sense of the word, fairytale-like low mountain range that invites you to go on excursions and long hikes.
You can spend your free time in countless museums.
The Grimmwelt opened in 2015, and since then Kassel has suddenly appeared in all international travel guides. In addition to art galleries, there are museums about death, wallpaper or comic art.
Documenta is the most important exhibition for contemporary art worldwide. Why does it take place in Kassel of all places? Because - it is an initiative of the Kassel-based artist Arnold Bode. In these 100 days, the city becomes an international metropolis.
If you really want to get out, you are quickly in nature.
Where, except in southern Germany, do you have so many beautiful mountains? respectively. Hills?
Berg Park Wilhelmshöhe has been declared a World Heritage Site since 2013. What is an excursion destination for some has long been known to Kasselers as a local recreation area.
The Kassel-Steig offers the hiker a lot of variety:
It crosses river and brook valleys and leads through forests, fields and fields, through nature parks, nature reserves and landscape protection areas. On the ridges there are wonderful panoramic and far-reaching views to the Kellerwald, Waldecker Land, Eggegebirge, Weserbergland, Meißner and Harz.
The panoramic hiking trail begins and ends at Herkules, the symbol of the city of Kassel.
It has a total length of around 160 km and is divided into twelve stages.
All individual routes can be reached by public transport at the start and end point.
And best of all: because Kassel is chronically underestimated, the city is not overcrowded.
Milky Chance - are internationally successful, but still prefer to live in Kassel than in Los Angeles.
