About this property

Historic Saban cottage in Windwardside, all amenities only a 2 minute walk away!

This cottage was built in a bygone era (1858) in Windwardside and features stunning views of the blue Caribbean, the misty top of spectacular Mt. Scenery, and the picturesque village below. Within 1-3 min you can walk to 2 grocery stores, 6 restaurants, 3 bars, the PO, a dive shop, 2 tourist shops, 2 churches, and a lovely park with museum. It's been a popular tourist rental for 10 years now, especially with divers as the pick up point is just below.

In 2022 a second separate efficiency apartment of 230 sq ft (22 sq m) was completed adjacent to the original cottage. Peter Hytte can be combined with the main cottage if three couples are traveling together, for example, as a small dive group. The apartment has a fully stocked kitchenette however there's plenty of space to dine and socialize all together in Althea Cottage if desired.

For active travelers who don't need as much space as the main cottage offers, Peter Hytte provides the same views and amenities at an attractive price point.

Amazing cottage. We canceled our plans in Philipsburg to spend 5 nights on Saba. Great choice! The island is incredible and this cottage in Windwardside was perfect for us. We enjoyed world-class scuba diving with Sea Saba. Easy walk to bakery, markets, bars and restaurants. Near several hiking trails. We did not rent a car and did not need one. Excellent host! Highly recommend!

Perfect Week in Saba!
Our stay in Saba was spectacular! The cottage is charming, comfortable, functional and ideally located above Windwardside. It was a perfect home base for our daily hiking, and diving activities. We cooked most of our meals and found the kitchen to be well equipped including pots, pans, skillets, utensils, spices, etc. The house is located very close to two grocery stores that we found offered a great selection compared to many other carribean islands that we have visited. The matress was extremely comfortable and the house was never too warm due to a constant breeze. We enjoyed the cool breeze in the evening. The bathroom is functional and even had an ample supply of shampoo, conditioner and body wash. The island, cottage and people we met made me feel as if I had traveled back in tome to a bygone era. The diving was good and the hiking spectacular. We did not rent a car, but probably will on our next visit so that we can explore more of the island. The car rental facility is right down the hill from the house. Be sure to hike to Mt. Scenery, enjoy a dinner at Tropics, visit Saba lace and learn about the amazing history of the "Saba Lace Ladies" who continue to carry on the rich tradition. The island is impeccably clean and we did not encounter one homeless animal (very different from many of the islands we have visited). Jeff is a warm and friendly host who we enjoyed chatting with. I highly reccomend visiting Saba and staying at Althea cottage!

High Vibe Perfection.
We arrived on Saba to be greeted by the driver that had been arranged by our host. We were then driven up to the charming village of Windward Side. Please anticipate taking lots of pictures and video. The host, Jeff was friendly and welcoming, as well as being an oracle of invaluable information on this unique island. He went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. The cottage is like something out of a Hemingway novel. Only wish we could have stayed a bit longer. We would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Saba!

I'm Jeff, a retired physician who ran a large B&B in Phoenix, AZ for 10 years. I found Saba on a map when I was 9 and vowed to visit the island one day. I vacationed here 30 times and finally bought one of the homes I used to rent to continue hosting travelers in my second retirement. I have since built a small cottage for myself at the far end of the property so I am available all the time for questions or assistance.

Why they chose this property

Historic from 1858, comfortable, airy, situated on a large property for this island (nearly 1/4 acre) with stunning views from both front and back patios.

What makes this property unique

Best central location for all amenities visitors need in the main central tourist area of the island. A rental car is really not needed, you can walk everywhere and hitchhike to the other towns if you like. The views are strikingly gorgeous out to the ocean on both sides and constant breezes with the many doors open on the cottage mean AC is rarely needed.
