Chez Mu is nestled on a breezy hilltop above Montezuma. The Villa offers tropical luxury at its finest. It has just been remodeled, with a new pool and modern furnishings. The Villa can accommodate a large family or several couples. The home is in the middle of a lush 3.7 acre property, which allows for privacy and tranquility. White faced and howler monkeys, as well as parrots. hummingbirds and many other varieties of birds can be seen on the property. The hilltop setting provides panoramic views of the jungle and ocean, as well as a steady and refreshing breeze (and no mosquitoes!). Plenty of deck space near the pool could become the backdrop for a very special wedding party and is perfect for yoga.

It is only 5 minutes (1.4 miles) from downtown Montezuma (cozy town with amazing beaches), 15 minute drive from Cobano (bank, doctor, supermarket) and 25 minutes from Malpais (incredible sunsets and surfing). We recommend renting a 4WD car to be able to fully explore the area.

Chez Mu is the perfect honeymoon retreat, or pampering base camp for your family's tropical adventure!

Retreat Experience

I held a retreat at the Chez Mu property at Aves and it was perfect for our small group! The views from the deck and house are lovely, and the yoga shala was fabulous. Our chef, Jo, was on target and a wonderful hostess. Thank you for a great experience!

Paradise, even better than expected

We had the most amazing stay here. The house is gorgeous and extremely comfortable. The views are even better than the pictures show, especially when seen from the pool. I was working remotely for a few days during my stay and the strong wi-fi and ample space made that seamless. The staff was FANTASTIC and super helpful. Can't wait to be back!

Awesome view

Chez mu is as advertised. Lots of room, quiet, clean, safe and friendly. Very well equipped. The view from the back beck of the ocean is great. You can see for miles. The pool is great for cooling down and steps from the expansive sliding doors looking over the ocean. There is a restaurant on the property if you need. It’s very close to the trail down to a beautiful three tiered water falls. Great for swimming. If you are staying in montezuma I highly recommend chez mu. It is a bit difficult to find. It’s a house on a small resort. You enter at the yoga studio entrance.

Does not disappoint

This house is everything, and more! It’s part of a resort but is very private. Walking down to eat a delicious breakfast each morning was an unexpected delight! The house is multi levels, top level is an apartment with a small living area and two bedrooms. Beautiful balcony with ocean views and an outdoor tub! There’s also another bedroom near the parking area with its own entrance. Middle level had two bedrooms and another amazing deck with killer views. Bottom floor, pool side, had living area and kitchen, plus another bedroom. The views are amazing and beds were fairly comfortable! Each bedroom had its own bathroom, some on suite. Highly recommend!

Loved Every Minute

My family and I had the trip of a life time. we were late getting to the Villa and they called to check on us. I was very impressed with their concern. There were seven adults. Chez Mu was the perfect space. We were all together, but had room for privacy when we wanted. The pool is amazing, so relaxing and always clean sparkling water. Spectacular views. We heard the howler monkeys, we were never up at the right time to see them. Housekeeping was great. Nina, the concierge at the hotel arranged a snorkeling tour and a horseback tour for us. She was great to work with. The little town of Montezuma has some of the best restaurants. None of us wanted to leave. Hopefully we will make it back.

One of the highlights of our Cost Rica trip!

The worst thing about Chez Mu for us was that it was only available for two nights. We decided to stay there anyway and were really glad that we did because our stay there turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip - and it was a great trip!. This is a really cool and beautiful property. We are a family of four and it was wonderful for us, but could also easily handle many more people in the 5 bedrooms. The views from the upper suite and the deck were amazing. We loved how all the doors fully open so the whole place feels like it's outdoors when you open them. The place is very well equipped and both Mike and Kris were friendly and helpful, making sure we were comfortable and made great suggestions for food and activities. I'd recommend a 4WD for Montezuma in general, not just chez mu. If you're considering going to Montezuma, I would definitely recommend Chez Mu. If you stay there, the bakery just below the bottom of the driveway is great for breakfast and delicious sweets. Also, the SunTours canopy tour ziplining, right down the road was amazing.

Really great value and outdoor space

This was a very comfortable stay with a fantastic outdoor area. The doors into the house can be opened up in the day to help move air through the house. I could mention some little things about the house in terms of things being a bit dated or needing some TLC but the fact of the matter is were not paying the price to rent a brand new mansion/house, so I think that it was extremely nice based on the price and was overall a great value and stay. It is really close to town but still has lots of privacy. Zennon the caretaker is very helpful and lives right below the house in his own place. I thought that Eric did a great job preparing for us and they have a spectacular house manual with all sorts of great info in it. Restaurants in Montezuma are far beyond what you would expect. Our favorite was the Italian place uphill from where we were (tierra y fuego) and the French place on the water (playa de lost artistas). Both were fantastic. I would also recommend the butterfly brewery/hotel just a short walk downhill from Chez Mu. Really nice people and good food/drinks. (Awesome mole sauce).

Waking up to jungle sounds, breathtaking vistas, taking dips in the infinity pool and feeling one with nature and at the same time having a luxurious place to call home. That is Chez MU. All the raving reviews did not prepare me for this experience. Although my family did all the activities that Montezuma had to offer and loved them, we could have easily just stayed at Chez Mu without ever leaving. And the people couldn't have been nicer! Mike was always available to help with any questions or concerns. My daughter-in-law had a rash, and the caretaker took care of her as if she was family. Kris, the property manager, was also great. The house is on a steep hill and remote, so we were remiss in not renting a vehicle, But, Kris came to our rescue and gave us a contact number to call whenever we needed a taxi -which was mainly for restaurants. Other than that, Zuma tours gave us door to door service for all of their tours. The people in Montezuma seem to be one, large, loving family and go all out for tourists. 5 stars is not enough for this lifetime experience in our luxurious jungle home.

In love with Chez Mu inside Aves

This was our first trip to Costa Rica and we looked at a few other accommodations before we found Chez Mu's. We didn't know what to expect or whether we will find the location? What's around us? How close are we from everything? Typical questions were in our minds as we were planning our trip. We loved the gallery of pictures for this property and it certainly accommodated our group. Chez Mu's is located within a beautiful yoga retreat and wellness resort (Aves Resort). It's just a stunning location, quiet (with the exception of nature), and relaxing. The staff is super welcoming, so nice and helpful with whatever you need. Although we had our own kitchen, we visited the resort's breakfast area quite frequently, it was convenient and delicious. The house itself was totally awesome, so much space, everyone had a bedroom, comfortable living space and most importantly a super awesome outdoor space. Our kids were in the pool daily for some hours in the morning and then in the evening, after day's activities. The kitchen was equipped with absolutely everything you needed. Grocery store is about 10 mins away (down the hill) where you can get your basic breakfast or lunch necessities. We had actually more space than we needed so you're traelling with a large group, this is certainly the spot where everyone has a room and a bathroom. We were always very comfortable. As mentioned already, the staff was amazing. We loved our time at Chez Mu's.

Fantastic stay

The Villa was perfect for us. The property was fantastic. The staff was excellent especially Jo. It’s in the top of a hill so rent ATVs it’s easy to drive around with them. It’s about a 7 min ATV drive down the hill to the town/beach.

Simply the best!!!

I don't want to give a very long review so here it goes, if you think the pictures are good, its waaaay better than the pictures, amenities are simply out of this world, I believe all of us were constantly talking about how no detail was spared and everything was of the greatest quality!!! Hosts are simply out of this world, they text you daily to see if there is anything they can help you with. And to simply put it, Villa Chez Mu is the exception to the phrase its too good to be true. Because it is in fact even better than what it should be for both the price and service. Book immediately and look no further. We will definitely be back!!!

Restful stay in Montezuma

My family and I stayed in Chez Mu for 4 nights, and we all enjoyed it a lot. This house has amazing spaces for a big family, confy rooms, clean bathrooms, nice social spaces, a lovely pool and an amazing view of the ocean. Adrian and Jennifer were really helpful with us. Amazing Family Vacation!!

This home was absolutely perfect! Tyler and Jennifer were the best hosts. They made sure we had everything we needed at all times and made so great recommendations for day trips/ hikes to waterfalls/ chefs for dinners. BEST VACATION EVER BY FAR!

Our stay was like a dream! The house was beautiful, luxurious, and clean! It had everything we needed and the few things we did find ourself in need of, Tyler, the property manager, handled quickly and thoroughly! He was extremely helpful and knowlegeable about the house and everything in the area!! This was a perfect place for our family of five to spend time together for 7 days! Would definitely come back again and stay!

Hello! This is Mike and along with my wife Linda, daughter Jenny and son-in-law Tyler, we are the proud new owners of Chez Mu. We visited Chez Mu at the end of May 2017 and completely fell in love with this magical property in Montezuma and had to buy it. We completed the transaction in July with the former owners Eric, David & Luis, who had owned Chez Mu since 2006. They put their heart and soul into making Chez Mu a dream escape and we plan on continuing that vision. We welcome our new friends via VRBO to come share it with us!

Why they chose this property

Montezuma is unique among beach destinations in Guanacaste and Nicoya. For years, this remote village and its surrounding beaches, forests and waterfalls have enjoyed near-legendary status among backpackers, UFO seekers, hippie expatriates, and European budget travelers. Although it maintains its alternative vibe, Montezuma has emerged as a great destination for all manner of travelers looking for a beach retreat surrounded by some stunning scenery. An Italian influence can be felt in the outstanding restaurants in the area. Active pursuits abound, from hiking in the Cabo Blanco Absolute Nature Reserve to horseback riding to a beach-side waterfall. The house itself is also walking distance to a Canopy (zip-line) Tour and a Butterfly Farm. As ever, it's the natural beauty, miles of almost abandoned beaches, rich wildlife, and jungle waterfalls that first made Montezuma famous, and they continue to make this one of the favorite beach towns in Costa Rica.
