About this property
3 bedroom accommodation in Sydals
In this beautiful and luxurious holiday home, much has been done to make your holiday unforgettable.
The modern and well-equipped kitchen is open-plan to the dining and living area. There is both an energy-efficient heat pump and a wood-burning stove that you can use on chilly days and evenings. The youngest members of the family are also well catered for. There are several playgrounds for the little ones on the large plot, and plenty of space for games and ball games.
Look forward to exploring the beautiful Gendarmenweg on a hike or mountain bike tour. The Gendarme Trail is one of the most beautiful hiking routes in Denmark. The 74-kilometre coastal hiking route is divided into four daily stages: the mountain stage, the brick stage, the crow stage and the beach stage. Each stage winds along the shores of the fjord and offers a varied and sometimes hilly landscape. Along the way you will have ample opportunity to see rare plants and animals as well as many interesting biotopes and landscapes ' from orchids, frogs and birds to tunnel valleys, cliffs and rocky reefs. At the same time, you can discover the history and the many myths and legends associated with the Gendarme Trail and the borderland. The Gendarme Trail - then and now. When you follow the Gendarme Trail, it is not difficult to imagine how the border gendarmes kept their eyes and ears open as they walked their fixed routes along the steep slopes, through the mysterious forests and along the flat beaches. Their job was to keep an eye out for smugglers trying to bring goods in or out of the country without paying the customs duties that had been one of Denmark's main sources of income for centuries. The Border Guard was established in 1839 to protect customs officials on the border between the duchies along the Elbe. After the defeat of 1864, the Danish border moved northwards to the Kongeåen - and in 1866 the gendarmerie moved with it. After reunification in 1920, the border troops moved south again and patrolled along today's border from the Wadden Sea in the west to the southern tip of Als in the east. In 1958, border control was transferred to the police, and after more than 100 years, the gendarmerie was history. However, fragments of the gendarmerie path still existed and in the 1980s the historic path was rediscovered. What does "gendarme" mean? The word "gendarme" is used in many countries, but can be traced back to the French "gens d'armes", which means "armed men". The French gendarmes were elite soldiers and acted as bodyguards for the king in the 15th century. Later, their duties expanded to include supporting the police in critical situations.
