Solcosta apartment - family of 4 (children aged 7 and 14) , Newcastle
The apartment was extremely spacious, very clean. The decor was a tad dated but practical for the weeks stay. The layout was airy and air conditioning was ideal for the 35 degree plus temperatures during our stay. The balcony area was again a really good size with loungers and table and chairs. The pool was clean and a good size but did have an issue - whatever the cleaning agent they used in the pool caused major skin irritation to our 7 year child and other of a similar age staying at the apartments. We ended up not using the pool and ventured down into Albufeira and went to the beach. There was not a lot in the surrounding town of Ferrerias (the main rail station for Albufeira - is probably the highlight.) There were no restaurants within walking distance and only a couple of places to get a drink. We took train from Ferrerias to Lagos for the day - nice trip out and
Lagos was a very pretty town with nice beach and marina. (cost 33 euros return) Albufeira was a taxi ride from Solcosta and cost 7 euros each way. Although there was a bus service unfortunately it didn't go right into the centre of Albuferia without changing buses at the bus station. In hindsight it was probably worth having a car. These apartments are ideal for a more relaxed quiet time with the family and with a car would make it an ideal base for exploring the beautiful area. I would recommend the apartments, we think the issue with the pool is easily resolved and we did tell the manager and other guests had stayed previous year without problems. The manager was a charming man and spoke good English however he could have done with some extra help as he seemed to work 24/7!!
Thank you very much for your comprehensive review, really happy you
have enjoyed the Algarve, your stay at Solcosta and found the apartments
spacious, clean and with added bonus of air conditioning which keeps them
nice and cool in the summer months.
The swimming pool has specialised treatment by a company which ensure
the correct level of chlorine and other products is used. Children often spend
lots of time in the water and it’s always good to use goggles and garden
shower after being in the pool.
Occasionally some children may get skin irritation if allergic to pool products
and may be advisable for them to reduce the time spend in the water.
There are actually 4 restaurants within walking distance of Solcosta, like O’Pote
just around the corner 100 meters from the resort, Vintage Tapas on roundabout
50 meters, Restaurante Refugio do Vicente, 200 meters and Restaurante Nora
by the football station, about 400 meters.
There are another 3 restaurants within 10-15 minutes walk, so there is
plenty of choice for the all week for the guests who don’t want to cook or go to
the old town.
The train station which is only a within 15 minutes walk is a great start point
for guests wishing to discover other parts of Algarve.
The tickets are very reasonable and train run across the all Algarve with Lagos
definitely a great place to visit. Some guests also take the opportunity to go
to visit Lisbon which cost just over 20 euros and takes under 3 hours by train.
( you can take early morning train and come back with the last one in the
I hope to hear from you again of you decide to return to the Algarve
Best wishes to all the Family
A GOOD PLACE TO STAY IN ALGARVE
The apartment was good, clean, very spacious. It could have more "kitchen stuff". There was no hair dryer as advertised...
The location is OK but requires you to have a car to move around. The parking is not good at all, it could be very much improved if the management wanted to, just by marking the spaces (it is outside and exposed).
Thank you very much for your review, really happy you have enjoyed Solcosta and liked the apartment.
Some of our guests rent cars and some are happy to use the local bus which has a stop outside and run to various part of Albufeira twice per hour. Taxis are also very reasonable at 6-7 euros to old town,
In the summer it’s also possible to use our courtesy minibus to old town. The hairdryers are available from reception on request and there is a private parking at the front for about 8-10 cars.
The other 20 or so parking places on the front of the resort are public, so anyone can actually park there.
We also have some limited parking places inside the resort behind automatic gates, if you need one of those in the future please request one when you make a booking. Hope to hear from you sometime in the near future if you decide to return to the Algarve.
Excellent apartments for a relaxing family holiday
First impressions did not disappoint. The grounds of these well kept apartments are lovely and the pool area is clean and spacious with plenty of sunbeds. The apartments, although in need of a little upgrading, are spacious and spotlessly clean. All the staff at the complex were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. There are plenty of local portuguese cafes and restaurants withing Ferrerias, meaning we didnt have to travel very far to find delicious local food and with a BBQ area available for use within the grounds of the Solcosta, a trip to the local butchers meant we had an enjoyable evening by the BBQ. We will definately be returning to these apartments, as they have everything you need for a relaxing holiday by the pool away from all the hustle and bustle of Albufeira. An excellent time was had by all, as there were teenagers and over 60's in our group, and we all had fun. Airport transfers were arranged through this site, and we had no issues with them whatsoever. Definately, definately, definately be back soon!!
Thank you very much for your superb review ! Truly delighted you have enjoyed the holidays and your stay at Solcosta.
I hope all family took many good memories back home and look forward to hear from you in the near future when you are ready for another break !
Loved it! Solcosta (2 adults & boy 12, girl 8)
We didn't want to leave. My wife said on arrival that my research had been worthwhile as the apartment was like a home from home. The kids loved the pool and would have spent every day there given the choice.
We knew before we went that the apartment was a few km from Albufeira but with the car this was a doddle. Reception offered us the free shuttle into Albufeira but to be honest the kids had a lie in almost every day - a lie in! We also knew that there wasn't a huge variety of eating places round there - however we really liked the restaurant round the corner and went there 3 times.
The snack bar at Solcosta was great - I really liked the omelettes and my son loved the burger. The staff at the complex were fantastic - all we had to do was ask. We had some noisy French neighbours above us but you can get that anywhere.
We would go back there in a flash and would be delighted to stay at Solcosta again if there is space. I only wished that I had received a text to tell me that we'd won the lottery and we would have stayed longer. Normally at the end of 2 weeks, you wish for your own bed but we didn't once. Thanks Andrew for your helpful advice beforehand and even since.
A thoroughly memorable holiday - thank you
A hidden gem
We have just returned from the SolCosta after spending 11 days basking in the sun around the beautiful pool. I don't normally write reviews but we were so impressed with the resort I felt I should share the experience.
Firstly the man on reception who checked us in on arrival & ran the snack bar throughout the day helped make our holiday as nothing was too much trouble & also recommended a few places for us to visit etc, He is a lovely man & a credit to your resort.
We mainly went into Albufeira in the evenings as we have too teenagers ( 19 & 16) who wanted to be where it all happened, this was approximately 8 euro each way in a taxi. However we did stay local a couple of times & ate at "Nicola" which is just round the corner & the food was delicious, plentiful & extrmely good value for money. We also finished our evenings in the bar across the road " Cafe Lisboa", again a good place to watch the world go by whilst having a cheap nightcap. I wouldn't hesitate recommending the resort to anyone & will definitely be returning as we were made so welcome from the moment we arrived.
The snack bar around the pool was also a nice change as although we were self catering we didn't want to be cooking on holiday & found it was very well priced for everything. If you do wish to eat in though there is a bakers around the corner & an InterMarche supermarket about 10 mins walk away.
I can't write anything bad about the resort at all & hope go you have as good a time as us.
Thanks also to Andrew for all your assistance when booking the holiday & making it as smooth as you did.
See you all again soon xx
What a superb review ! Thank you very much ! I am delighted you have
enjoyed the Algarve and your stay at Solcosta and truly appreciate you
finding time to write the review. I am sure this will help our future guests
with the decision to come and stay with us. Thanks again and best
wishes to all the family. Hope to hear from you some time in the near
I have passed your comments to Armenio in the snack bar, without
a doubt it made his day !
Algarve is a region renowned for its mild and sunny climate, its miles of glorious sandy beaches with their stunning rock formations and its excellent sport facilities. It boasts an average of 3000 hours of sunshine per year. It’s mild all year round with virtually no rain in the summer months. February sees the start of the spring and it's warm in October. The old town of Albufeira which perches on the cliff top overlooking the beach, retains a distinctive Moorish character and you can still see the fisherman bringing in their catch at the port entrance by Albufeira Marina.
There are two excellent local restaurants with bars open until late just 50 metres from the resort and two more within 5 -10 minutes walk (one of them serving only famous chicken piri-piri at fantastic prices!) Algarve Shopping with large food store, many restaurants, bowling and cinemas is only a few minutes by car as is Zoomarine, Albufeira Marina, water parks and golf.
Golf: There are currently 25 courses in the space of 100 miles of coastline, with more under construction. Most of the Algarve golf courses are within half an hour drive from our Resort, some only 15 minutes. Over the last few years the Portuguese Open has been hosted variously at Penina, Villa Sol and Sao Lourenzo, all of which may be included in the list of top European championship courses. Warm playing conditions and immaculately manicured fairways and greens are the norm in the Algarve. Whatever your level of skills or dedication there is a course for you in the Algarve.
