About this property

Modern Farmhouse Retreat

Steps from Lake Michigan, place to unplug, peaceful country retreat. Our family farm is a quiet, relaxing getaway with historic energy. The spirit of this home is to provide a comfortable, intimate, highly crafted interior that is great for a family getaway, a golf retreat or simply to clear your mind from everyday stresses. Located just off Lake Michigan, and convenient to Whistling Straits and Lambeau Field, the farm is just 3 hours north of Chicago.

Our farmhouse is located in Northeim, a crossroads farming community that dates back to the mid 1800s. The rental unit is attached to a barn built in 1875. The home is newly renovated - thoughtfully designed and crafted to be a respite from everyday life. The home is situated on 5 acres and a future orchard (coming spring 2023)!

Living Area:
Cozy up by the fireplace and enjoy our well-stocked library, including vinyl, turntable, and an excellent selection of board games. In lieu of a TV, high-speed internet and a projector are provided for movie watching, just bring your laptop. The large dining table is great to host a family dinner or game of ping-pong!

Kitchen:
The kitchen and dining area is set up for cooking and entertaining! Fully stocked with cooking necessities, full size refrigerator, gas stove/oven, coffee maker & Keurig, toaster, top line cookware and cutlery. Clean-up is easy with the built-in dishwasher; detergent is provided. There is no garbage disposal so if you could please throw waste in the garbage under the sink.

Sleeping:
The bedrooms are located on the second level. The main bedroom has a queen bed, ensuite bathroom, wardrobe and desk. The second bedroom has a built-in bunk bed with full size lower bed and twin above. This bedroom also has desk and wardrobe. Both down and down-alternate bedding are provided. Each bedroom has a desk for remote working. We also have a fold down/futon sofa on the first floor. If you would like to use for an additional guest please indicate in your reservation.

The Grounds:
The historic barn and outbuildings on the grounds are not accessible.
Guests are welcome to use all outdoor spaces and walk the 5 acre property that overlooks Lake Michigan. The property does not have beach access.
Be sure to enjoy the outdoor fire pit with plenty of firewood provided. You can roast marshmallows, cook hotdogs, or simply enjoy sitting around the fire under the stars.

Pardon our Dust:
We completed the work on the interior in December 2022; however you may notice the rough exterior upon your arrival. We are doing a traditional 3-coat stucco exterior to tie into the historical barn stone. We were 2 coats in this fall and hit an early freeze so we have to hold off finishing until temperatures warm up. We will also be working on the landscape and planting the apple orchard this spring!

Checks all the boxes
This home was exactly what we needed! We love the farmhouse decor and the big open space. Nice and quiet location. The vegetable garden is an excellent touch that added a little something to our dinners.

Sisters Weekend
There were 3 sisters and 3 of our college age daughters staying for a "Girls' Weekend". We loved the openness of the down stairs. No matter where you were you could be part of the conversation. We also loved the big table. It allowed us to eat together and have plenty of space to play games. Very close to Manitowoc where we did some shopping and spent time walking on Mariner's Trail. Very relaxing!

Serenity Now!
If peacefulness was truly attainable, it might be here. We purposely rented away from the track, as prior trips have always left us completely drained, even as we started another day. With fields on 3 sides and a Lake on the other, quiet and relaxation was easy to find. The house is fantastic, lots of space to spread out and enjoy a book (the entire living room is walled with them like a library!), play a record (they have quite a nice collection), or just watching the sun set over the landscape. It's cool enough at night to turn the fire place on and in no time I'm ready to sleep. We found both bedrooms really comfortable, with plenty of storage space and a well appointed bathroom attached to the master. The down stairs bathroom has the coolest floral wallpaper! There are plenty of resources in the kitchen to aid in meal prep there or on the grill. All in all a wonderful place to stay, and I hope to be able to return again in the future!

Lovely Oasis
We had a fantastic time relaxing at this retreat! We needed peace and quiet and this was perfect for us and our dogs. The amenities were great, we had everything we needed to fully enjoy our time. We loved sitting by the gas fireplace as well as the outdoor firepit. All in all, it was perfect for us, only wish it was longer!

Hello! My name is Rachel and my husband David and I are happy to welcome you to our home. We live in Chicago but are both originally from Manitowoc where our new family farm is 15 minutes away.

Why they chose this property

Our farm has been a dream for us and we just purchased the property in 2022. We are both architects and over the next few years we will be continuing to renovate the property. We just completed the renovation of the farmhouse winter of 2022 and this spring we will be planting our 3 acre apple orchard with future aspirations to make French style hard cider!

We look forward to sharing our home with you and I’ll do my best to make your stay comfortable and enjoy the beauty of the country. Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions regarding our listing. Welcome!
