About this property

15 Beds-13 sgl,1dbl,1qn! 3 acre waterfront retreat, easy walk to Beaufort docks

Tucked away on a quiet dead end road minutes from Beaufort's Historic district, this former church fellowship hall is now a 4 bedroom house perfect for a family reunion or small group gathering. (The attached 1400 sq.ft sanctuary is now a large gathering space with comfortable seating, 3 sofa beds, tables, stage and 85" smart tv + 2 bathrooms for an additional $350/night). It's only a 15 minute easy walk (8 minute bike ride) to the Historic District waterfront shopping/restaurants/bars/museums. Our quiet maritime forest backyard is home to numerous waterfowl, fish and deer. Swing under the old live oaks or enjoy our firepit in 1 of 3 seating areas by the creek (400ft of water front)! Enjoy the prevailing sw breeze as it comes across the marsh while watching egrets, herons, ibis and osprey! Sunsets are FANTASTIC! The kayak accessible creek feeds to Town Creek Bay & Gallant's Channel. The old menhaden rr track bed (used by Harvey Smith's menhaden plant, The Fishmeal Company, that used a spur of the Beaufort & Morehead Railroad) runs parallel to the creek right through the middle of our property! This is a hidden oasis in a busy historic coastal town.
Our open floor plan allows you to have plenty of comfortable room to cook and entertain, watch tv, play pool or simply lounge and read with lots of very comfortable seating! We have 4 private bedrooms...1 queen bedroom, 1 dbl w/ a top sgl bunk, 2 bedrooms 6 sgl bunks each (total 12 sgls). The large, open kitchen is PERFECT for cooking/entertaining. It features a new 5 burner glass top conduction stove with 2 ovens (1 lg. convection oven and 1 sm. regular oven), lg. microwave, fullsize refrigerator as well as a commercial dishwasher. You'll find plenty of cooking supplies and plates, glasses etc. to host a feast! Our wraparound bar seats 10 easily. Beautiful new 500sq. ft. attached covered back porch! We have 2 bathrooms with 2 toilets each and a separate shower room with 2 showers and a washer/dryer. There is a fantastic outdoor shower as well! The decor consists of decades of our family loving and exploring the area and collecting many unusual artifacts, natural treasures and local art.
The attached sanctuary was built in 1933, 8 miles east in the small fishing village of Bettie. In 1979 The Crystal Coast Sanctuary was created when the sanctuary was picked up and moved here and the fellowship hall was added. Leave your car parked for your stay and instead walk or ride bikes or paddle your way around town! There is plenty of parking for your boat trailer if needed. Public Beaches are only a short 5-15 minute drive (Radio Island or Atlantic Beach) or go by ferry boat from the Front St. docks to Rachel Carson Nature Preserve (Carrot Island or Sand Dollar Island), Shackleford Banks or Cape Lookout! Hopefully you'll see the famous wild ponies and some dolphin! We live nearby and will happily answer any questions about where to go and what to do! We hope you'll love our little slice of heaven as much as we do! PLEASE REMEMBER>>>

Excellent for a big group
We had 11 grown men staying in the Sanctuary for a scuba trip. Ann was there to meet us and give a quick welcome tour of the property. The place is huge and comfortably housed everyone with plenty of space to spread out. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to make big or small meals. The beds are comfortable. The bunk beds are big enough for full size adults. Looking forward to booking again in the future for our next trip!

About the host

I was born and raised in Raleigh. When I was 14 I went to school in Switzerland for a year and fell in love with travel. I graduated from Salem College in Winston-Salem. I've also lived in France, Nantucket, Singapore and Bali before returning to Raleigh to get married and raise our 2 kids. My husband and I met while we were both living in Singapore though we are both from Raleigh (our families knew each other but we didn't). He was a commercial deep sea diver in SE Asia for 6 years and I imported decorative accessories from Bali for 5 years. He has been a very successful realtor in Raleigh since 1986. Since 2006 we have enjoyed living part time in Beaufort on our boat. In 2019 we purchased this old church and decided to renovate it into a home for our family and friends. We also offer sunset cruises onboard our 42ft. Beneteau Swift Trawler for 6 passengers at a time. See www.CruiseBeaufortNC.com for details. I love meeting people from all over the world and sharing my little slice of heaven here in Beaufort!

Why they chose this property

WE fell in love with this hidden oasis blocks from downtown Beaufort and want to spend our golden years here! We are happy to share it with other families and groups :)

What makes this property unique

91 year old renovated church on 3 acres of maritime forest, 400 ft. of tidal creek waterfront, abandoned railroad bed runs through property
