Ferruginous Pygmy (Fergy for short) is a tidy open concept single room cabin designed with custom "window walls" at entry and on the back balcony, allowing you to see completely through the cabin to the lovely hills beyond. When you stay at Fergy, you experience a beautiful balance of out and in. Enjoy the cozy and comfy interior and the expansive exterior that epitomizes the Texas Hill Country.
Wake up from a good night's sleep and slide the doors open to watch the sun rise with a warm cup of coffee on the back porch. Step off the shaded front porch around to the deck, which offers outdoor seating, grilling and dining. Adjacent the deck, find a treelined outdoor shower (with hot water) where you can wash off in the private wilderness. (There's really nothing else like it.) In the evening, enjoy a chat by the fireside, resting in style on a large Adirondack chair set in the open air for an expansive experience of the night sky. The stars out here are so bright and plentiful!
Kitchenette with 2-burner induction stovetop, microwave, small fridge, sink, dining ware, knives, cooking utensils, pots, pans, and flatware. Clean bedding on a fresh, firm mattress and new iron queen size bed - super comfy for a good night's sleep. 50 inch Samsung smart TV, with streaming platforms. Air conditioning and heating. Modern free standing roomy and luxurious tub, with high quality shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Tiny enclosed toilet for privacy.
This is truly a unique experience that offers all you really need in a getaway.
Exciting news! We have completed of our second cabin, fondly named “Barn,” which sleeps four and is close enough to book jointly with Fergy and far enough if you are staying solo. We intentionally spaced these two cabins to preserve privacy, yet lend reasonable proximity for those shared stays with friends or family. Please reach out to learn more about the second cabin.

The Fergy is as cool as asadvertised. Only 15 minutea to Leakey but you feel very secluded. The view of the Texas Hill country is world class. Loved the outdoor shower and the stargazing was excellent.

Thanks for the five stars Kristina! I’m glad y’all enjoyed your time out there.
Everything was wonderful. It was clean, and quiet. We stayed two nights, stopping at HEB on the way. The cabin had just what we needed without being cluttered. We grilled and hung around the fire pit, watching the stars. Having a nice covered porch on both ends of the cabin worked out great with the change in wind/weather.The view is fantastic and so was the quiet, we ended up not leaving until checkout! It was just what we needed, the stay was so relaxing.

Thanks for the nice review and endorsement Justin. I hate that the storm fried the router just before you arrived Thanks for being so understanding and for your help trying get it going.
We really enjoyed our stay here. It is as close as you can get to everything around (Lost Maples, Garner State Park, Frio River, Uvalde). You can’t beat the beautiful views. We will be back!
Everything was absolutely incredible! Talk about getting away from the city. We were so far removed that we could see ALL the stars. It was so nice to not hear traffic or other people. I think we only turned the TV on one time. We were just basking in the tranquility. They really had almost everything we needed already there. We brought food and drinks, and they had pretty much everything else. It was a great way to spend our 15th anniversary! Thanks to the hosts for doing such an amazing job. We will highly recommend it to others!

So glad you had a nice time Jordan. Thank you for the glowing review. It’s always great to hear and future guests will certainly appreciate the helpful recommendation.
This place is awesome. My wife and I are avid science fans. She's a Biologist and I'm an avid amateur astronomer. This property was PERFECT for stargazing by night and animal spotting during the day. The unique microbiomes of the areas surrounding the property were so cool... you can really see how the ridgeline biomes differ from the biomes in the deep canyons winding down towards the Frio watershed. All of the appointments in the cabin worked as advertised. We brought a bluetooth speaker and watched scary movies at night. The bathtub was great as was the outdoor seating areas. My wife and I will definitely be staying again!

Wow! What an amazing location. A bit of a drive off the beaten path, so worth it. Peaceful and remote. It is truly in the hill country. It was the perfect spot to enjoy hiking in Garner and exploring. Close enough to Leakey to enjoy meals out. It was clean and well equipped!

We (Melanie and Nathan Jagneaux) own Owl Hollow, a 260 acre ranch property in the Texas Hill Country. Ferruginous Pygmy is the first of several cabins we intend to design and build for our own use and to be shared with others as vacation rentals. Nathan is trained as an architect and designs each cabin to fit within the context of the land and enjoy its own unique design features. Melanie and Nathan (with professional experience in design and construction) do most of the construction themselves, hiring in the experts only when needed. We stay in the cabins ourselves once completed, and bring in just the right furniture, furnishings and creature comforts to make your cabin stay truly restful.
