About this property

Hill Country cabin on 260 acres

Ferruginous Pygmy (Fergy for short) is a tidy open concept single room cabin designed with custom "window walls" at entry and on the back balcony, allowing you to see completely through the cabin to the lovely hills beyond. Kitchenette with 2-burner induction stovetop, microwave, small fridge, sink, dining ware, knives, cooking utensils, pots, pans, and flatware. Clean bedding on a fresh, firm mattress and new iron queen size bed - super comfy for a good night's sleep. 50 inch Samsung smart TV, with streaming platforms. Air conditioning and heating. Modern free standing roomy and luxurious tub, with high quality shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Tiny enclosed toilet for needed privacy.

When you stay at Fergy, you experience a beautiful balance of out and in. You come in to a cozy and incredibly comfortable space that offers all you really need in a getaway. Yet you are also invited out. Wake up from a good night's sleep and slide the doors open to watch the sun rise with a warm cup of coffee on the back porch. Step off the shaded front porch around to the deck, which offers outdoor seating, cooking and dining. Adjacent the deck, find a treelined outdoor shower (with hot water) where you can wash off in the wilderness. (There's really nothing else like it.) In the evening, enjoy a chat by the fireside, resting in style on a large Adirondack chair set in the open air for an expansive experience of the night sky. The stars out here are so bright and plentiful!

Relaxing getaway
What a great escape from the city! We loved the beautiful sunsets, stargazing, and tranquil scenery. This was a great base of operations for day trips to Lost Maples and Garner, and a perfect way to enjoy nature without all the crowds at the end of the day (and with a luxurious bath to boot!). We would highly recommend!

We (Melanie and Nathan Jagneaux) own Owl Hollow, a 260 acre ranch property in the Texas Hill Country. Ferruginous Pygmy is the first of several cabins we intend to design and build for our own use and to be shared with others as vacation rentals. Nathan is trained as an architect and designs each cabin to fit within the context of the land and enjoy its own unique design features. Melanie and Nathan (with professional experience in design and construction) do most of the construction themselves, hiring in the experts only when needed. We stay in the cabins ourselves once completed, and bring in just the right furniture, furnishings and creature comforts to make your cabin stay truly restful.

We know you will love your stay here at Ferruginous Pygmy on Windy Hill at Owl Hollow!

Why they chose this property

If you are wanting a true getaway experience in the Texas Hill Country, this is the place for you! Nestled on 260 acres of undeveloped, natural lands - with oak trees, tall grasses, prickly pear and loads of lovely hills, Ferruginous Pygmy is a sweet spot for a couple or small family. If you need to plug in, you have internet access and free Wi-Fi. You can also watch a TV show on the large flat screen TV. Pull the curtains open when you want to experience the world around you and pull them shut when you want to close it out.

What makes this property unique

One room cabin, well appointed with all the creature comforts (flat screen TV, free standing tub, in room AC and heating, queen sized iron bed with super comfortable mattress, leather sofa and leather club chair, induction cooktop, microwave, island with seating and all your dining needs). Porches and decking on three sides (front, back and one side) to extend your experience to the outside. Propane fed outdoor grill, outdoor seating (sofa, Adirondack) and an outdoor metal dining table and three chairs for dining outdoors. Outdoor fire pit surrounded by four comfy Adirondack chairs set out in the open for star gazing at night!
