Established in 1951 Samuel and Wilma Myers were the original owners of The Betsy. Their daughter Elizabeth was affectionately named Betsy, which is where the sweet yellow house on 38th ave. got its name.
In 2018, Betsy, the Myers daughter, decided to move out of the area and the family shared Betsy with Matt Raum. Music brought Matt here to play fiddle for the Alabama Theater, one of North Myrtle beach’s popular music theaters. This year Matt trusted us with her care as he relocated to the mountains of Tennessee.
Windy hill is an area unique in North Myrtle beach because it is not connected by Ocean Dr. to the rest of North Myrtle beach. The Besty has been in Windy hill since 1951 and features many of the sweet details native to the older beach homes. She has the original hardwood floors, knotty pine wood paneling, original windows and of course the sweet front porch to sip coffee and listen to the sound of the waves crashing nearby. She has also taken a beating and survived five hurricanes starting with Hazel in 1954. She also weathered Hugo in 1989, Floyd in 1999, Matthew in 2016 and just recently Florence in 2018.
The Surf shack is the design of Scott Allen the co-owner of The Betsy. Adding his love of surfing he gave her bright colors and a theme. She affectionately became known as The Betsy Surf Shack.
We fell in love with The Betsy and know you will too. We hope you enjoy your stay and feel free to leave comments, stories or even how you found Betsy.
We are so glad you are here.
