About this property

True Bed - and Breakfast! - made fresh by Grandma

Want to experience Frankenmuth in the best way? How better than 2 bedrooms in a true bed and breakfast in the heart of town.

"Dawdy Haus" is Pennsylvania Dutch (Amish) for "Grandpa's House". When the kids have grown up and the house becomes too big, it becomes time to turn it over to a child that has their own growing family. The Amish often build a new house for the grandparents - with a guest room or two. This is known as the "dawdy haus".

This is our dawdy haus! Let us share it with you!

(PLEASE NOTE. You are booking 2 private rooms with a private bathroom. Not the entire home. This is a Bed and Breakfast which is actually a specific thing and means that there must be a host onsite who provides breakfast! You will be the only guests and you will have access to all the common areas of the home, including the hot tub!)

Read on!

Inspired by the Amish, we've decorated in a simple farmhouse style that will make you feel comfortable and relaxed. Our home is all about having a place for family and friends to visit and share time together. Whether it's early morning coffee on a glider rocker on the sun porch, grilling on the patio, or competing with the kids on the full size air hockey table in the basement, we hope you just feel at home.

Like most Amish dawdy hauses, it is a ranch style home so you don't have to deal with stairs, but with a full finished basement. So even if it is smaller than the home we just moved out of, there is plenty of room for sleeping, visiting, and playing. The outdoor patio is private and perfect for gathering most of the year! Even in the winter because of our newly installed hot tub! And the rest of the yard is completely fenced with an extra high chain-link fence which you and your pets will appreciate.

And in case you wondered, we have plenty of electricity. I said 'inspired' by the Amish.

When it comes to accessing the wonders of Frankenmuth, we can't say enough how perfect the location is. Leave your car in the driveway and walk two blocks to where the traditional Frankenmuth attractions begin. If you know Frankenmuth, you know that everything is centered on Main Street and there is a slight incline from the river up to Genesee Street. We're at the top of the 'hill', so you get to start with the downhill walk. If you don't want to walk back, we’ll come and bring you back!

Regarding accessing our home. You’ll have your private bedrooms and bath, and the common areas of the house are available for your use - including the Hot Tub.

As a true Bed and Breakfast, by definition, we provide breakfast and we reside in the home. This is different than many Airbnb's that you may find elsewhere. See the "During Your Stay" section for more details.

As far as accessing other places? The Birch Run outlet mall is 8.6 miles from our home. Take the back way down Dehmel Rd to avoid the crowds on Main St. Bronner's Christmas Wonderland is also a little far to walk but how can you not go to a place that has billboards all the way down in Florida.

By definition, as a true Frankenmuth bed and breakfast we are there in the morning to provide breakfast and we reside in the home.

We split time between Michigan and Florida, and like to camp, so you may meet a couple of our adult kids who help if we are gone.

Speaking of breakfast! We provide a different home-cooked meal each morning of your stay. Check out the pictures, they'll make you hungry! But please note: we don't provide a buffet of ALL the items in ALL the pictures at ONE time. We have to mention this because someone had this expectation and left us a bad review because we didn't!

Outside of breakfast, we will try to make ourselves scarce unless you are looking for our help in experiencing Frankenmuth.

We can get you started with a wine tasting (ask for details), maybe a guided tour, or maybe all you need are a few recommendations!

We want you to have only the amount of interaction with us that YOU want to make your visit to Frankenmuth perfect!

Regardless, we are never more than a phone call or IM away throughout the day and evening .

We wanted to be within walking distance of the heartbeat of Frankenmuth. Nestled in a quiet neighborhood two blocks from Main Street, its the perfect location for us - and probably for you!

Frankenmuth is made for walking. And from our home you're a couple blocks from shops, restaurants and all the attractions

If you are looking for a place to hold a party because your guests might make a mess of your home, just keep scrolling. We're not interested.

We price based on how many are staying in the home. This is calculated during checkout by Airbnb, so it is important that you enter the right number of guests.

We have a Mini Golden Doodle puppy and we allow dogs. Up to two dogs only. And a maximum of 40 lbs each. All pets must be crated if left alone in the house. And sorry, no cats period. My husband is deathly allergic.

Unfortunately, because of a guest that refused to take responsibility for the actions of their pet, and Airbnb not backing us up, we must require a damage waiver from pet owners. It is $10-15 per night in addition to the pet fee and is available on our private guest portal.

Speaking of our Guest Portal, as an API software-connected host, we are authorized by Airbnb to manage deposits and provide additional services offline. We call these "Extras".

"Extras" include both certain free amenities and items available for a fee. All can be easily arranged through our Guest Portal. We will send you a link after you book. You will be able to: 1) request optional free amenities like setting up a port-a-crib, etc. and 2) select and pay for things like: an early check-in, etc. If you have questions or can't find these on the guest portal, reach out and ask about any of these items of interest.

If you're like us and like to go south when Michigan is cold, check out our other home down on the Florida Gulf coast. You can find our other properties on our profile.

Clean, efficient, friendly.
Things like descriptive “pets cages”, identified. That there was a live in dog was not. My granddaughter is allergic to dogs. Host gave choice of Benadryl, or Zerteck so I wouldn’t have to go purchase meds in late eve.. Please describe in immediate description on face page. Also, Verbo description was “sleeps 8 ppl. So, I thought I could have up to 8 ppp. Nothing was stated upfront. We found out later that the additional price for each additional price was $10 per person. Must be more clear before client commuting pay… Host and hostess were gracious, accommodating, thoroughly attentive, had extra attention to detail (making comfort and enjoyment foremost), and kind. Read thoroughly b4 signing…..
