About this property

Log Cabin Retreat at Silent Meadows

Our log cabin built in 2003 from old pines that were milled on our property is located in the very private Silent Meadows neighborhood just 10 minutes from Lake Glenville, 25 from Cashiers and Sylva. The cabin is a very small jewel perfect for a single or a couple desiring the cool and quiet of a high mountain retreat. At 4500', the nights are almost always cool in summer.

The cabin overlooks a small pond with pastoral views of forest and meadow, eleven acres total. There is a sleeping loft for visiting children or adults - though only the one bathroom, so we find that overnight visitors are best if they are children (adult or otherwise!) or good friends!

This is not a place for those desiring an active nightlife, but rather a place to nurture the soul and breathe in the beauty of our mountains.

The cabin is not accessible by motorcycle due to gravel road .

Owners also have a vintage river cottage (circa 1925) on the Okatie River between Beaufort, Bluffton and Savannah for rent by the week or month. VRBO #307304

A little slice of Heaven

Photos on the listing simply can't convey the absolute peace and tranqility of this property. We were sitting on the front porch just unwinding after our arrival and saw a small bird in a tree about 50 feet away. We could actually hear it munching on the seeds of the tree! That's how quiet it is there. Add to it the much cooler climate above 4000 feet elevation and you can't find a better place to just chill and relax. We are already thinking about how and when we can return!

Another wonderful week!

This was my wife's and my 2nd stay at this beautiful property. It had been 2 years since our last stay there. It was another awesome time. The cabin's isolated location is well worth the winding drives to get to it. The owners obviously take good care of the property and cabin, and are very accommodating to guests. It's simply an amazing place. Very relaxing. We already miss the cooler temps down here in FL! The Williamsons

A Fabulous and Peaceful Cabin!

My wife and I stayed at this beautiful place for six nights in Sept. 2014 and didn't want to leave. The owners have decorated their cabin perfectly, and it has all the necessary amenities/appliances and is well maintained. The property is expansive and beautiful, with both woods and a small meadow; along with a pond. Our jaws dropped when we first arrived at the gravel road entrance to the cabin along side of the grassy meadow. There are long, winding roads to get to this somewhat isolated cabin, but it's well worth the drive. It's an amazingly peaceful location, and it was easy to understand why some reviewers said they had spent days just hanging around the cabin, taking hikes from there, and just relaxing on the front porch that overlooks the pond. We saw deer and turkeys nearby. The meals on the front rustic front porch were wonderful. We even had cell phone reception (Verizon) at the cabin. It does take about 30-35 minutes to drive to the nearest highway (Hwys 64 or 107), but we just made certain to get back to the cabin before dark. We are already talking about a return to Silent Meadows and its beauty.

Perfect Getaway

The road to get there is like no other......once we arrived we were in the most beautiful setting for our Anniversary Weekend! The cabin was perfect for us. The hiking trails were fun and just relaxing on the covered porch during the rain. We would go back again! The owner was wonderful.

Stunning Mountain Cabin

My husband and 22 year old son stayed at this lovely home for 2 weeks. The cabin is in an absolutely tranquil, beautiful setting. The cabin’s large porch was perfect for reading. We enjoyed coffee every morning on the porch- watching the birds and huge fish in the pond. We also dined on the porch and enjoyed a glass of wine here in evenings- it was superb. The kitchen is well stocked with all you need to cook meals. The cabin was clean and tastefully decorated. The pictures can’t capture the magic of the cabin’s setting. There are several hikes you can take right from the back door. Our host was delightful- easy to communicate with and responded quickly to questions. I can’t wait to visit again.

Very nice get away!

Had a great stay! Stayed in Saturday because of rain but it was so peaceful and hearing the rain on the metal roof mad for good napping. Very secluded and had a beautiful pond! Fireplace was very nice! Cabin is well equipped and not far from great hiking.

Perfect!

My husband and I needed a peaceful place were we could escape from the world for awhile and also fish and hike. Well, we found it in this magical cabin, lake and property. The only problem was that we did not want to leave the cabin. Sitting on the front porch in the rockers watching the fish in the pond was so perfect that we found it hard to do anything else. The cabin was clean and well stocked. Isabella called the night we arrived to make sure all was well and gave us her mobile number so we could get in touch with her. We never had to. The binders that she put together gave us all the information we needed. We did her first 2 suggested hikes and had fun. This is a place that we would visit agin and I have no hesitation in recommending it. Linda and Fred

Absolutely beautiful.

The owners of this property really have spared no detail. The cabin is warm and inviting, landscape is perfect and apparently ever-blooming, and the location serene and secluded. Bring some hiking shoes and prepare to be off the grid. Can't wait to go back and stay longer.

Mountaintop paradise

We loved our stay at Silent Meadows! We were extremely comfortable in the cabin, which was immaculate and equiipped with everything needed to make it our home away from home. However with no internet service, we were forced us to put down our electronics, relax and enjoy each other! The owner was delightful and eager to help us anyway she could. The temperatures were awesome, in the low 60's in the evenings and mornings, which allowed us to build a fire in the pit, in August! There are books and pamplhlets there on things to do in the area and we discovered places we had never been, like Cowee Gap! A bit of a difficult hike, but well worth the effort!

A perfect holiday

In real this cabin is even better than in the pictures : it is hidden in the mountains (20-30 min from Cashiers) and very peaceful, surrounded by trees and with a romantic pond in front of it. We came there to hike in the mountains but eventually we spent a lot of time just hanging around the house and relaxing on the front porch. Inside, the cabin is very well decorated, country style and very tasteful. No cell phone, no internet, we enjoyed every second of it !

Wonderful Experience!

We just left our quiet haven in the mountains and had an amazing stay! Our 5year old LOVED it and cried to go back "home" every time we ventured off the property. It is beautiful in the fall and great place to see the leaves and smell the mountain air. We would love to come in the summer and spring also...maybe next year! I only wish I had brought my own pillow bc my neck hurt (I'm only 37 but guess I'm getting to that point). I wouldn't have wanted to be there with my son being any younger but 4-5 and up would be perfect. We didn't bring our dog but it seemed pet friendly. Great place to get away and relax!

Peaceful, Relaxing Anniversary Trip to the Mountains!

We loved every minute of our stay at Silent Meadows! Beautiful property at the top of the mountain! Great to see all of the fall colors! Cozy, clean cabin with everything we needed during our stay. Comfy beds. Great fireplace. Loved sitting on the porch to read, eat, watch the world go by :-) Saw wild turkeys. Thank you so much for opening your home for us to come stay! We will definitely be back!

This is the most incredible romantic, beautiful & serene getaway period!!

When you first drive up to the cabin you just can't help but be in such awe bc it's just so incredible and immensely beautiful. This property is where you definitely want to go to get away from the rest of the world bc it just doesn't exist up here and it is so romantic!! The accommodations are perfect and everything u need is available to you at the cabin. Once you are there you don't ever want to leave and the one day trip we did to see all the waterfalls was so breathtaking, it's a must do!!

Excellent Choice

My husband and I were looking for a fall getaway and this cabin was the perfect answer! It was everything we were hoping it would be. I don't suggest 2 couples going unless you know each other really well as bathroom is off of main bedroom. The cabin is cozy and adorable and location is so great! It is an experience getting there, but very scenic drive up the mountain. I would not try to drive a sports car up. The Arrowmont Riding Stables is right across the road if you are interested in riding. Their stables were the only one that appealed to us because of us being experienced riders. Also great for beginners. You definitely want to take groceries with you. We cooked on the grill most nights. Went to Highlands, Cashiers, and visited the wonderful waterfalls in the area. Our favorite lunch places were Cornucopia in Cashiers and Wild Thymes in Highlands. Again, this cabin is awesome and centrally located to many attractions. The owner also called us the first night to make sure we arrived ok and that the cabin was in good shape. We appreciated that. You will not have cell phone or computer connections at the cabin. There is a land line phone in the cabin. We are looking forward to going again.

Silent Meadows is Paradise!

Our stay at Silent Meadows was fantastic. The cabin was quaint, clean, convenient...everything was just as advertised. It was secluded (although Cashiers is less than 30 minutes away), but we never wanted to leave anyway! We will definitely be returning one day...and SOON.

Escape from the daily routine and stress

This is a wonderful place to stay for quiet days doing nothing or going out for mountain drives, hikes, and kayaking. You really feel like you have escaped the hubbub of daily life! Everything was as we had expected, clean, neat, and organized. The location, the landscape and pond, the cabin...all are superb. Thanks for making this place available to those of us in need of a retreat and peace and quiet! I will recommend this place to all my friends!

Excellent location-private, beautiful and restful

This is a lovely property for a break in the mountains. We enjoyed it very much. Cabin has everything you might need, the property is like a mountain meadow park and surroundings give many opportunities for hiking and kayaking.

About the host

Host profile image
The owners live in the Low country of South Carolina and are a realtor and a fine arts consultant. They cherish their mountain cabin and have made it a true mountain retreat. Avid hikers and conservationists they would like to share it with like minded people.

Why they chose this property

We looked for 25 years to find the right property for us. The weather is wonderful in the summer, the fall is beautiful, it is private and secluded but we can go into a choice of 3 or 4 towns within a 30 minute drive.

What makes this property unique

We enjoy the tranquility, hiking and picnicing in nearby Panthertown and off the Blue Ridge Parkway. We enjoy exploring the mountains and also just sitting on the porch, puttering in the garden.
